Fashion hits and misses from the 2019 BET Hip Hop Awards

Each year at the BET Hip Hop Awards, musicians do their best to stand out on the red carpet. Sometimes these extra-loud outfits are a complete win, pushing the fashion envelope in the best way possible. But sometimes the outfits are an eyesore and try too hard. Wonderwall.com is taking a look at the best and worst looks from the 2019 BET Hip Hop Awards, starting with host Lil' Kim's ensemble. The rapper set the tone for the night, matching her hair to her blazer-inspired dress. While it's a look that might not be a win at every award show, at this one, it certainly was.

Rapper Lia Givenchy walked the green carpet in a golden form-fitting frock that accentuated her curves and went perfectly with her sleek, straight hair. While the black accessories were a stark contrast, the success of the dress canceled out that miss.

T-Pain looked ever the cool rapper with his sporty jacket, fresh sneakers (with a hint of red to match his jacket) and futuristic shades.

Falz, who was nominated for best international flow, walked the red carpet in a partially bleached jean jacket and a clashing red bucket hat. On the next slide, you can read what the rapper's jacket says…

While Falz probably isn't a "Bahd Guy," he does have "bahd" — or at least questionable — taste considering that this is the outfit he wore to the 2019 BET Hip Hop Awards in Atlanta.

Teyana Taylor made the interesting choice to add a rope tied a few times around her gown, and it dragged down her look, especially when she turned around.

From behind, Teyana Taylor's dress was certainly successful in highlighting her backside, but it remained unsuccessful when it came to delivering one of the night's fashion hits.

iAM Compton pushed fashion limits with his Louis Vuitton-inspired jean jacket vest that was paired with a bright blue tee, bandana and sneakers. While his outfit was certainly loud, it worked at an event where everyone was turning it up.

Kamillion wanted to be extra at the BET Hip Hop Awards, but she also didn't want any extra fabric on her dress than was absolutely necessary. The self-proclaimed queen of twerk music skimped on the fabric but doubled up on the extra dramatic makeup for the big event.

Kamillion's look was all too much — from the back to the front of her dress to her long lavender-gray hair to her heavy makeup. With a bit more dress and a little less makeup, it could have been a success, but without those changes, it remains a miss.

Blac Youngsta wanted to stand out on the BET Hip Hop Awards red carpet, and that he did. However, instead of winning accolades for a sharp outfit, he looked more like a crossing guard or late-night runner just trying to be safe. Not exactly the cool look he was probably going for.

Connie Orlando, the executive vice president and head of programming at BET, looked like a classy boss in her all-black ensemble, which paired great with her strappy heels.

"Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood" star Micky Munday had many things wrong with his look when he stepped onto the BET Hip Hop Awards red carpet. Between the pearl necklaces, the lack of a shirt and the bizarre ombre-style pants, we aren't sure which element was the worst.

Rapper Kash Doll's outfit probably wouldn't meet much success on any other red carpet due to all that blinding pink, but at the BET Hip Hop Awards, it could have been considered a win. The top was working until you looked down and saw that she had the bottom of her jumpsuit go well into her shoes — a total wrong move.

LightSkinKeisha had just the right amount of wild in her award show look. The sleeve of her dress pushed boundaries and her zebra-print shoes were just loud enough. It helped that her hair was off her face and her makeup was subdued.

"Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood" star A1 Bentley must have gotten the memo that the red carpet was in fact green. However, no one said he had to match — or clash — with it. Neon zebra print is never a good idea.

At the BET Hip Hop Awards, anything goes, including perfectly matching your hair to your dress, like Dae Jones. The rapper pulled off a shimmering, see-through gown in which she truly sparkled. "I used to pray fa times to shine like this," she wrote on Instagram.

Nothing but respect for a man who can pull off some glitz! Tom G. sparkled on the Atlanta red carpet with just the perfect amount of pomp for hip hop's big night.

Monochromatic was a hot trend at the BET Hip Hop Awards, with many women going all out in one color, and more than one going so far as to match their hair to their outfit. Spice went bold in neon green and made it work with her futuristic full bodysuit, scarf and perfectly matching hair. It takes a special person to pull off this amount of neon green, and Spice is that lady.

B.o.B. could have pulled off that bandana-inspired jacket or do-rag on their own. Together, however, the elements were too much — the fabrics didn't work well together.

Jack Marrow's outfit was an all-around eyesore. The jacket with the stripes and big orange pockets decorated with bugs? Too much. The patchwork pants with the orange chain? Way too much.

SMACK WHITE shied away from the loud colors that so many others loved at the BET Hip Hop Awards. He brought together two patterns that could have been way too much but managed to make them work by keeping the look black and white.

Kalash, who was nominated for best international flow, looked sleek and cool in a dark beige satin button-down and Converse sneakers.

IDK's pants were a welcome burst of color. The rapper kept it super-simple with a white tee and a blue button-down on top and let his pants — from which we couldn't look away — do the talking.

Rapper Saweetie's bodycon dress was just too revealing. The mini, which was a pretty, sparkly color, had way too many holes and just needed an extra layer.

Young Devyn, who's just 17, struck the ideal balance between age-appropriate and fierce with this pink two-piece set. To top off her fun, sparkly outfit, she chose the perfect beauty look — sleek hair and makeup that matched her outfit.

DreamDoll's outfit was far too bondage and not enough actual dress. The only parts of her body that she generously covered up were her hands with those black leather fingerless gloves.

Krystal Garner mastered a mix of high and low with lingerie and a blazer on top and sneakers on the bottom. She looked fierce and ready for a good time!
