10. She's got comedic skills
Sarah Hyland got her big break playing the oldest Dunphy daughter on the Emmy-winning television show "Modern Family" starting in 2009. She's been playing the character for so long, they're starting to turn into the same person. "As I get older, I'm becoming more like Haley, where I really am starting to appreciate fashion," she told Vanity Fair.

9. She overcame a toxic relationship to find love again
Sarah Hyland dated actor Matt Prokop for years, but the couple split in 2014 amid allegations that he'd been abusive. In October that year, Sarah was granted a three-year restraining order against her ex. "There are two quotes that I want to say," Sarah told Meredith Vieira when the talk-show host brought up the topic of moving beyond an abusive relationship. "One is a Dylan Thomas poem: 'Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light,' which is one of my favorite poems. It just strikes a chord in me. And then also Robert Frost: 'The only way out is through.' People have to go through things in order to become the person they are today, and that's that." Since then, Sarah found love with her "Vampire Academy" co-star Dominic Sherwood. The couple adopted a dog together in October 2015.
8. She always kills it on the red carpet
Sara Hyland can't look bad on the red carpet. It just isn't something that happens. She totally has it down to a science. "I think the hardest thing is to be appropriate and dress age-appropriate," she told Elle. "But for me, it's harder because I feel like I'm 22, but I look like I'm 15 or 16. So I have to watch that line, while not looking older than I actually am. For the most part, I just pick out what I like!"
7. She can really make us laugh
Sarah Hyland isn't only funny onscreen — she's also great at making us laugh IRL. Recently, she took to Twitter to talk about a little cooking adventure with her boyfriend, and it was hilarious. "Update on my life: @DomSherwood1 taught me how to fry an egg last night. Now I can cook at least one thing on the stove," she said, kicking off the series of tweets. "Oh. Two things. I can make cranberry sauce. So who wants a fried egg with cranberry sauce?"
6. She can sing
Sarah Hyland's talent isn't only limited to acting — she knows how to belt out some high notes too. When she isn't too busy filming movies or "Modern Family," she hits the stage for roles in live performances including "Hair" and "The Unauthorized Musical Parody of Scream."
5. She's overcome serious health issues
Sarah Hyland's life isn't as easy as it may seem. She's been battling health issues since she was a baby — Sarah was diagnosed with kidney dysplasia as a child and underwent a kidney transplant in 2012 — and almost didn't get to where she is today because of them. "I was born with so many health issues that doctors told my mother I would never have a normal life," she told Seventeen magazine. "And she said, 'You're right, she won't — but it won't be because of her health.' When my mother told me that story, it resonated with me: If I can't have an ordinary life, I might as well have an extraordinary one. If you set your mind to something, you'll achieve it."
4. She's wise beyond her years
Sarah Hyland may be only turning 25, but she has a good head on her shoulders. "You know, every woman has issues with her body. I'm sure Adriana Lima has something she doesn't like, which is ridiculous! But it's just how women are," she told Cosmopolitan. "It's one of those things where you have to love yourself for who you are; as long as you're healthy, that's all that matters. Girls deal with pressure differently. Some days I'm depressed, and other days I'm completely fine. The only advice I have for young women is to cherish the body you have now; when I was 18, I don't think I did."
3. She wants to be known for her talent
Sarah Hyland isn't one of those celebrities who want all the glitz and glamour that come along with being famous. She would much rather be able to be a normal person who is just doing her dream job. "I like the real F word and C word, but I don't like 'famous' and I don't like 'celebrity,'" she told Vanity Fair. "I'm not dying to be in that [Young Hollywood] group, but if people put me in it, I'm really flattered. I'm more of a homebody type. I don't want to look like I want to be in the public eye. I didn't become an actress to be famous."
2. She gets scared of silly things
Just like us, Sarah Hyland has some pretty irrational fears. But who doesn't? "I can't ride a bike because I'm afraid of falling off and scraping my knee," she told Galore magazine. "It's so stupid. Kids 20 years younger than me can do it but I start to hyperventilate as soon as I get on one. I was always a very wary kid. I don't like getting hurt."
1. She's very charitable
Sarah Hyland is one of many celebrities who have a heart of gold. "I'm a youth ambassador for the George Lopez Foundation," she told Galore magazine. "It's an organization that helps kids with kidney disease go to camp when they normally wouldn't be able to. I'm also a part of No Kid Hungry. We can end starvation for children in the U.S. by just spreading the word of programs that are already set in place to help out kids. I love This Bar Saves Lives. It's a granola bar that helps out children all over the world dying of malnutrition. I have my hands in a lot of cookie jars, but I love it."
