A guide to the cast of 'The Comey Rule'

Sept. 27, 2020, marks the release of Showtime's political drama miniseries "The Comey Rule," which chronicles the relationship between Donald Trump and James Comey in the early months of the Trump presidency. Wonderwall.com is taking a look at the actors and actresses who are bringing the political figured in the project to life. Starting us off is Jeff Daniels, who plays former FBI Director James Comey, who led the country's top law enforcement agency from Sept. 4, 2013, to May 9, 2017. Jeff Daniels is a celebrated actor whose list of accomplishments include earning two Primetime Emmy Awards and many Golden Globe Awards, SAG Awards and Tony Award nominations. His most notable projects include 1983's "Terms of Endearment," 1994's "Speed," 2002's "The Hours," 2005's "The Squid and the Whale," 2012's "Looper," 2015's "Steve Jobs" and 2015's "The Martian." He also earned widespread recognition for his Emmy-winning portrayal of Will McAvoy on HBO's political and media drama "The Newsroom," which ran from 2012 to 2014. He also appeared in Netflix's "Godless" miniseries in 2017 and Hulu's "The Looming Tower" miniseries in 2018, both of which earned him Emmy nods. Jeff is also a celebrated Broadway actor who earned Tony noms for his work in "God of Carnage," "Blackbird" and "To Kill a Mockingbird." In 1979, he married Kathleen Rosemary Treado, with whom he shares three children.

Irish actor-director Brendan Gleeson is a Primetime Emmy Award winner. His most notable films include the "Harry Potter" franchise — he was Hogwarts professor Mad-Eye Moody — "Braveheart," "Gangs of New York," "Troy," "Suffragette" and "The Ballad of Buster Scruggs." This isn't his first time playing a real-life figure: In 2009, he delivered an Emmy-winning performance as Winston Churchill in the TV movie, "Into the Storm." The celebrated actor has also starred in several films from 2002's "28 Days Later" and 2008's "In Bruges" to 2013's "The Grand Seduction" and 2014's "Calvary." Next up, he'll appear in the film "The Tragedy of Macbeth" and will lend his voice to a character in the flick "Riverdance: The Animated Adventure." Brendan isn't the only thespian in his family — two of his four children with wife Mary Weldon, Domhnall Gleeson and Brian Gleeson, are also actors of note.

Michael Kelly plays former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, who was in office from Feb. 1, 2016, to Jan. 29, 2018.

Michael Kelly is most recognized for his role as Doug Stamper on Netflix's "House of Cards," for which he earned several Primetime Emmy Award nominations. He's also appeared in movies like "Changeling," "Dawn of the Dead," "The Adjustment Bureau" and "Now You See Me" and on television shows like "Taboo," "The Long Road Home" and "Jack Ryan." He married Karyn Kelly in 2005; they have two children.

Jennifer Ehle James plays James Comey's wife, Patrice.

Jennifer Ehle is a celebrated actress on both the small screen and the Broadway stage. For her performance as Elizabeth Bennet in BBC's 1995 miniseries "Pride and Prejudice," she earned a BAFTA TV Award for best actress. 2000 marked the year she earned her first Tony Award for best actress in a play for her work in "The Real Thing." She then went on to win the Tony for best featured actress in a play in 2007 for "The Coast of Utopia." She's also appeared on TV shows like "The Camomile Lawn" and "The Looming Tower" as well as in films like "Sunshine," "The King's Speech," "Contagion," "A Quiet Passion" and "Little Men." Jennifer — who's the daughter of actors John Ehle and Rosemary Harris — married Michael Ryan in 2001. They share two children.

Holly Hunter plays former U.S. Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates, who was in office from Jan. 10, 2015, to Jan. 30, 2017.

Holly Hunter is no stranger to accolades! In 1993, she earned an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award and a BAFTA Award for best actress for her performance as Ada McGrath in 1993's "The Piano." She also earned Oscar nods for her work in 1987's "Broadcast News," 1993's "The Firm" and 2003's "Thirteen." She was in the drama "Saving Grace" and has starred in films including "Raising Arizona," "Home for the Holidays," "Crash," "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" and "The Big Sick," for which she earned a SAG Award nomination. The seven-time Emmy nominee will next appear on the NBC sitcom "Mr. Mayor." Holly, who was married to cinematographer Janusz Kamiński from 1995 to 2001, shares children Press and Claude with actor Gordon MacDonald.

Peter Coyote plays former FBI Director Robert Mueller, who was in office from Sept. 4, 2001, to Sept. 4, 2013.

Multi-hyphenate Peter Coyote has appeared in several notable films including 1982's "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial," 1985's "Jagged Edge," 1998's "Patch Adams," 2000's "Erin Brokovich," 2002's "A Walk to Remember" and 2014's "Good Kill." An accomplished voice actor as well, Peter narrated the 1992 PBS series "The Pacific Century," for which he earned an Emmy, as well as several Ken Burns documentaries like 1996's "The West," 2011's "Prohibition," 2014's "The Roosevelts: An Intimate History" and "Country Music." Peter, who has two children, was previously married to Marilyn McCann and Stefanie Pleet.

Steven Pasquale plays Peter Strzok, a former FBI agent.

Steven Pasquale, who's best known for his work on FX's "Rescue Me," made his acting debut in HBO's 2001 series "Six Feet Under" and had a memorable role on 'The Good Wife." He's also starred in films like "Aurora Borealis," "Alien vs. Predator: Requiem" and "American Son." A celebrated stage actor, Steven — who's married to "Hamilton" star and Tony-nominated actress Phillipa Soo and was previously wed to Broadway star Laura Benanti — has appeared in several off-Broadway and Broadway productions too including "A Man of No Importance," "The Robber Bridegroom" and "Junk: The Golden Age of Debt."

Oona Chaplin plays Lisa Page, a former FBI lawyer who had an affair with ex-FBI agent Peter Strzok.

Oona Chaplin is best known for her role as Talisa Maegyr on HBO's "Game of Thrones." She's also appeared on television shows like "The Hour," "Dates," "The Crimson Field" and "Taboo." Next up, she'll play Verang in "Avatar 2" and "Avatar 3," which are slated to debut in 2022 and 2024, respectively.

Scoot McNairy plays former U.S. Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who was in office from April 26, 2017, to May 11, 2019.

Scoot McNairy has appeared in films like "Monsters," "Killing Them Softly," "12 Years a Slave," "Gone Girl," "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" and "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood." As for his notable television work, Scott starred on AMC's "Halt and Catch Fire," HBO's "True Detective" and Netflix's "Narcos: Mexico" and "Godless." Next up, he's set to appear in the films "I Care a Lot" and "Blonde." Scoot was married to actress Whitney Able, with whom he shares two children, from 2010 to 2019.

William Sadler plays former U.S. National Security Advisor Michael Flynn, who was in office from Jan. 22, 2017, to Feb. 13, 2017.

William Sadler has accrued an impressive list of credits over the course of his career. He's appeared in projects like "The Pacific," "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine," "Roswell," "The Shawshank Redemption," "Hard to Kill" and "Die Hard 2." He's also played U.S President Matthew Ellis in "Iron Man 3," "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." and "WHIH Newsfront," all of which are part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. William, who's been married to Marni Joan Bakst since 1977 — they share one child — will next appear in the horror film "Shrine."

T.R. Knight played Dr. George O'Malley on Shonda Rhimes' "Grey's Anatomy" from 2005 to 2009 and earned an Emmy nomination for his efforts on the hit ABC show.
