Sorry, 'Ye: Kim is not technically a billionaire yet

Earlier this week, Kanye West tweeted out a vegetable still life homage to Kim Kardashian West, telling her, "I am so proud of my beautiful wife Kim Kardashian West for officially becoming a billionaire … So blessed this is still life. So I made you this still life." The tweet came after Forbes reported Kim's KKW company had inked a massive, $200 million deal with Coty that leaves her company valued at $1 billion. Alas, it seems Kanye's metaphors aren't the only things he mixed up. On Thursday, July 2, the Daily Mail pointed out that Kim's KKW deal doesn't close until "the third fiscal quarter of 2021." And because her mother still owns eight percent of the company, versus Kim's 72 percent, she's actually … not a billionaire. If all of this sounds familiar, it's probably because already this year, Kanye notoriously text-argued with Forbes about his billionaire own status — and Kim's sister, Kylie Jenner, had her "world's youngest self-made billionaire" title axed by Forbes, which claims she misrepresented her wealth. Kylie has denied those claims. Kim is actually worth about $900 million, according to multiple outlets.

Brie Larson launches her own YouTube channel

With most major Hollywood productions on hold because of the pandemic, Brie Larson is recasting herself as a star of the (really) small screen. On Thursday, the actress announced she's launching her own YouTube channel in a funny, candid "warm-up" video that also featured appearances by various YouTube content creators — and Brie's mom and grandmother. "Hi, I'm Brie Larson…oh God," she says, stumbling, as she tries to introduce herself in the clip (via E! News). "Hi, I'm Brie Larson," she says in the do-over. "I'm an actor, you might know me from Captain Marvel, or maybe you me from nothing," she jokes. "Maybe you just randomly, from the algorithm clicked on this. But regardless, hello! I'm starting a YouTube channel." The 30-year-old says she chose YouTube because the platform has taught her everything from "how to use my printer" to "how to be a considerate activist." "It doesn't mean that there isn't also silly content, that there's ways for me to express myself personally," she adds. "But, there will also be deep conversations, anti-racist rhetoric, inclusive content." She's already including personal content, too. In the first video, Brie also delves into her "introvert" tendencies, telling viewers how she's come out of the shell was long her her "baseline." "I'm introverted, I'm scared, I have social anxiety," she says. "And through, in particular, playing Captain Marvel, that like kind of wiped clean those titles I had for myself and made me go, 'Woah, I'm not really that anymore.' And so, from there I found that speaking out, telling my story, talking about things that I'm scared of, has just helped me so much."

Duchess Meghan felt silenced, 'unprotected' by royal family during British tabloid attacks

A new court filing sheds some light on the situation Duchess Meghan found herself in with regard to negative press attention before she and Prince Harry stepped away from the royal family. According to the filing (via Business Insider), the Mail on Sunday's publication of "false and damaging articles" "tremendous emotional distress," with "damage to her mental health." The document states that friends who spoke to People about Meghan's relationship with her dad did so out of serious concern for Meghan, who at the time was "unprotected" by Kensington Palace and not allowed to speak on her own behalf. "As her friends had never seen her in this state before, they were rightly concerned for her welfare, specifically as she was pregnant, unprotected by the Institution, and prohibited from defending herself," her lawyers wrote. Meghan filed suit against The Mail on Sunday in October for "misuse of private information, infringement of copyright and breach of the Data Protection Act," according to Business Insider.

Resurfaced Viola Davis interview about race-based pay gap goes viral

A 2018 interview in which Viola Davis discusses the pay gap between Black and white actors went viral this week after stars like Gabrielle Union resurfaced the clip on Twitter. The clip comes from a Women in the World event where Davis points out how a serious, race-based wage discrepancy exists in Hollywood, where she's often branded the "Black Meryl Streep," but never compensated as such. "I got the Oscar, I got the Emmy, I got the two Tonys, I've done Broadway, I've done off-Broadway, I've done TV, I've done film, I've done all of it," Viola says in the clip (via InStyle). "I have a career that's probably comparable to Meryl Streep, Julianne Moore, Sigourney Weaver. They all came out of Yale, they came out of Julliard, they came out of NYU. They had the same path as me, and yet I am nowhere near them, not as far as money, not as far as job opportunities, nowhere close to it," she continues. "But I have to get on that phone and people say, 'You're a Black Meryl Streep … There is no one like you.' OK, then if there's no one like me, you think I'm that, you pay me what I'm worth. You give me what I'm worth."

In what's become something of a deja vu, Khloe Kardashian is sharing a series of potentially Tristan Thompson-related quotes on Instagram this week. This time, though, the posts have a little extra weight, given ongoing rumors the two have rekindled their romance. "Don't talk to me about loyalty. I'm still here holding secrets for people who are throwing dirt on my name," read one quote, posted to her Instagram Story on Wednesday, July 1 (via Us Weekly). Another read, "Your greatest test will be how you handle people who mishandled you," sparking social media speculation Khloe had Tristan's cheating scandals in mind when she referenced being "mishandled." It's unclear what their relationship status is now, but the two have seemed quite close while in quarantine together with their daughter, True. Kim Kardashian West, meanwhile, has voiced her full support for the dramatic turnaround Tristan's apparently undergone in the past year. Tristan's birthday tribute for Khloe fueled reconciliation buzz, too. "I'm wise enough now to know, you came into my life to show me just what it means to be an incredible person," he said in the post. "I appreciate how I am able to learn from and grow because of you. I thank God for the beautiful and loving woman you are to everyone, especially our daughter True. You deserve the world Koko! True and I love you mama." But are those sweet words enough for Khloe to leave her painful history with Tristan in the rearview mirror? Maybe. Demi Lovato's grandfather dies: 'I love you Grandpa … rest easy'

Demi Lovato is mourning the death of her maternal grandfather — and struggling with the notion her family won't be able to lay him to rest the way they'd like to because of the coronavirus pandemic. "Woke up to the news that my Grandpa Perry passed away early this morning," Demi wrote on Instagram on Wednesday. "He's been sick for a couple years now so although I'm relieved he is out of pain, it still hurts to think our family won't get to say goodbye with a proper funeral for a while. But that's the reality during this pandemic," she explained. The singer went on to praise her grandfather's "fierce" love of God, calling him "one of the best preachers I've ever had the honor in witnessing spread the word of God." Before signing off, she added: "I love you Grandpa. I'm sorry we didn't take more pictures together but I have so many memories to make me smile until we meet again someday. Rest easy. Love you. ❤️🕊🙏🏼." Demi's had close relationships with other senior members of her family, as well. Last May, around the three-year anniversary of her great-grandmother's death, she got a tattoo of the matriarch on her forearm. Sarah Jessica Parker moves on from 'Divorce' with a new reality dating show

Before its third and final season, Sarah Jessica Parker's dark comedy "Divorce" was heralded as a kind of mid-life bookend to the carefree, Manolo Blahnik-clad dating extravaganza that was "Sex and the City." Now, SJP is headed into a new format for exploring urban love stories on TV — a dating show. According to Deadline, Parker's executive producing a series for Lifetime called "Swipe Swap," which the outlet describes as "a social experiment in love and location, following two hopeful singles who trade places and adopt each other's lifestyles – from living in one another's homes and visiting each other's favorite local haunts, to connecting with one another's closest friends and family – all in the pursuit of romance in their new cities." No word yet on a premiere date, as the show is reportedly still in development.

Nick Cordero 'likely' needs a double lung transplant

Broadway star Nick Cordero will "likely" need a double lung transplant as he continues his battle with COVID-19, according to his wife, Amanda Kloots, who shared the update during her appearance on "CBS This Morning" on Thursday. "We think that that is most likely the possibility. A 99 percent chance that he would be needing that in order to live the kind of life that I know my husband would want to live," she said. "That is a long road away and a lot of things would have to line up in order for Nick to be a candidate for [a transplant]," she cautioned. The actor has already suffered multiple strokes, a coma, septic shock and had one leg amputated since he was first hospitalized with the illness.
