Every August, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip head to Scotland for their summer holidays. The country within the United Kingdom is a very special place for Her Majesty: The monarch is descended from Scotland's Royal House of Stewart on both sides of her family and she's been summering there since she was a child, nestling in at Balmoral Castle on her privately owned estate in the Scottish Highlands that's been in her family since the 1840s. To celebrate her annual visit — she and Philip arrived there via private plane on Aug. 4, 2020, and are expected to stay until October amid the global coronavirus pandemic — Wonderwall.com is taking a look at some of the best photos of the royal family in Scotland over the decades… starting with this pic of Queen Elizabeth II, heir Prince Charles and grandson Peter Phillips and his now-estranged wife, Autumn Phillips, at the Braemar Highland Games in Braemar, Scotland, on Sept. 7, 2019. Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip are seen here with some of their beloved corgis as well as their children — Prince Edward, Prince Andrew, Prince Charles and Princess Anne — outside Balmoral Castle in Scotland on Sept. 1, 1979. Prince Albert (later King George VI) spent eight hours inspecting Glasgow, Scotland, factories in December 1919, including during a visit to William Beardmore and Company, a Scottish engineering and shipbuilding conglomerate.
