Jessica Simpson is pregnant with her third child. The singer-turned-fashion brand mogul announced the news on Instagram on Sept. 18, sharing a photo of her two kids holding big black balloons. "SURPRISE…," she captioned the snap. She followed that up with a gender-reveal image — small pink balloon floating through the air — indicating that she and husband Eric Johnson are having a girl. "This little baby girl will make us a family of five," she wrote. "We couldn't be happier to announce this precious blessing of life."

Julie Chen's time on "The Talk" is over. Her departure comes the week after her husband, Les Moonves, resigned as the CEO of CBS amid multiple sexual misconduct allegations. Julie announced the news in a pre-recorded message that aired on "The Talk" on Sept. 18. "I love you all," she told her fellow co-hosts, "and I know this show and the sisterhood it stands for will live on for many, many, many more years to come. You ladies got this, and I cannot be more proud to call you my friends." The departure was no surprise. A source told Page Six on Sept. 17, "She is definitely leaving 'The Talk' and will 100 percent stay with Les." The current season of "Big Brother," which Julie hosts, ends Sept. 26. No word on whether she'll return to that show for its next season.

Pregnancy confirmation

In August, Spanish media reported that Richard Gere, 69, and his third wife, Spanish businesswoman and activist Alejandra Silva, 35, were expecting their first child together. On Sept. 16, she confirmed it by sharing a photo of the Dalai Lama touching her belly. "A very special moment just a few minutes ago… Getting blessings for our precious to come," Alejandra — who, like her husband, is a Buddhist — captioned the pic. "We couldn't announce it before telling HH Dalai Lama." According to Alejandra's post, the blessing took place in Rotterdam in The Netherlands. She has since taken down the Instagram post.

Benedict Cumberbatch and his theater director wife, Sophie Hunter, are expecting their third child together. E! News reported that Sophie sported "a small but growing baby bump" on the red carpet at the Emmy Awards on Sept. 17. The couple, who have not publicly confirmed the pregnancy, have been married for three years and have two toddler sons, Kit, 3, and Hal, 1.

Kristen Bell raised some eyebrows this week when she revealed that she openly smokes weed around her husband, Dax Shepard, who's been sober for 14 years. "I smoke around my husband and it doesn't seem to bother him," she told the "WTF With Marc Maron" podcast, adding, "weed rules." She said that she fires up "once a week, if I am exhausted and we are about to sit down and watch '60 Minutes.' Why not?" A man you probably never heard of stole the show at the Emmys on Sept. 17. Director Glenn Weiss won an Emmy for his work helming the 2018 Oscars telecast and during his acceptance speech, he decided to do the unexpected — propose to his girlfriend, Jan Svendsen. In his speech, Glenn first talked about his mother, who passed two weeks earlier. "Mom always believed in finding the sunshine in things and she adored my girlfriend, Jan. Jan, you are the sunshine in my life and Mom was right, don't ever let go of your sunshine," he said. "You wonder why I don't like to call you my girlfriend? Because I want to call you my wife." A stunned Jan then made her way to the stage while the audience of TV royalty roared. He then popped the question, and she, naturally, said yes. Glenn later told "Entertainment Tonight" that he was going to propose regardless of whether he won or lost. "There was no plan B; our life is a plan A," he said. "And whatever happens is where it happened. So it happened to happen on the stage. It could've happened somewhere else. You never know!"

Putting gay rumors to rest?

For years, there have been rumors claiming that John Travolta is gay, but a friend of his says nothing could be further from the truth. The actor's former co-star, fellow high-profile Scientologist Kirstie Alley, was asked if she thought John was gay during an interview with The Sun that hit the internet on Sept. 16. She "vigorously" shook her head and said, "No, I don't. I mean, I know him pretty well — and I know the love…" She said she and John fell in love in the late '80s and had an emotional affair while working on the "Look Who's Talking" movies together but never physically acted on their feelings, she said, because she was married to Parker Stevenson at the time. "John and I would have devoured each other because John and I are so alike. It would be like two blazing stars that just fizzled out," she said, glad they didn't consummate their feelings. "John would agree it was mutual that we sort of fell in love with each other. Four months after she attended their royal wedding, Duchess Meghan's mother, yoga instructor and social worker Doria Ragland, returned to Britain to accompany her daughter and new son-in-law, Prince Harry, on an official royal engagement on the grounds of Kensington Palace on Sept. 20. "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" alum Eliza Dushku is married… In fact, she's been married for a little bit. On Sept. 16, the 37-year-old actress announced on Instagram that she and businessman Peter Palandjian, 54, quietly married in their hometown of Boston back on Aug. 18. According to her Instagram photos, Eliza and Peter wed in the courtyard of the Boston Public Library in front of a very small group of people. She captioned her photo slideshow simply, "♥️♥️ 8.18.18." The couple got engaged in June 2017.

A scooter and a selfie

While driving his car in Hollywood, Ashton Kutcher struck a 19-year-old man on a scooter on Sept. 18. The teen, Leo Marenghi, was sent "flying through the air," TMZ reported, adding that "the impact propelled him into the air and he landed in the street." Leo thankfully only suffered a few cuts and bruises. In regards to damages, he wanted none. Instead, he just wanted a few selfies with Ashton, who obliged. "Got hit by a car today," Leo said on Instagram, where he posted the photos. "But it's OK because it was by Ashton Kutcher."
