In a video interview accompanying the cover story in Architectural Digest's March 2020 "Star Power" issue, Kim Kardashian West shared an alarming piece of information — that even after more than two years of living in her $60M mansion, she has never gone swimming in her pool! In the clip, Kim's husband, Kanye West, asks her, "When was the last time you used the pool?" The reality TV star replies, "I've never used our pool, actually." Kim also shared that the couple opted not to add a Jacuzzi because Kanye didn't think it was aesthetically pleasing enough, so instead they did what only celebs would do — they made sure their entire pool was heated! "I wanted a Jacuzzi and then everyone kept designing them off to the side and it bothered you so much," Kim told Kanye. "But the kids love to swim in a Jacuzzi, so you said, 'No, the whole pool will be a Jacuzzi.'" Talk about an appropriate solution!

The Carters have officially upgraded their Los Angeles backyard! According to The Sun newspaper, the music power couple opted to demolish JAY-Z's cherished basketball court in favor of making the space more kid-friendly. Their solution? To create the ultimate playground for their three children: daughter Blue Ivy and twins Rumi and Sir. The latest renovation to their $88M Bel-Air mansion includes a trampoline, a climbing structure, slides and more. From the photos of this backyard, it looks like a kid's dream come true!
If only all goodie bags were valued at $225K! All the acting category and best director nominees at the 92nd Academy Awards received quite the collection of goods courtesy of Distinctive Assets, a celebrity and product-placement marketing company. According to Forbes, the 2020 Oscars swag bag included gifts like a 24-karat gold Royal Chakra Bath Bomb, a gold-plated vape pen, cannabis edibles and up to $25K of cosmetic treatments and rejuvenation procedures from a top Manhattan plastic surgeon. And that's not even the best stuff. There's also a 12-day cruise to the Antarctic or the Mediterranean on the Scenic Eclipse, a yacht for 220 guests, that's valued at $78,190. It also features butler service, two helicopters and a spa. A trip on a submarine, a stay at a Spanish lighthouse and five nights at lavish hotel in Waikiki, Hawaii, are also among the many, many gifts. If this doesn't prove stars are nothing like us, we don't know what does!
Why give a dozen roses when you can (romantically) vandalize a silo? For the second year in a row, "Fixer Upper" star Chip Gaines opted for the latter! On Valentine's Day 2020, the Magnolia Network founder left yet another extravagant message for his wife, Joanna Gaines, on a silo in Waco, Texas. For his latest proclamation of love, Chip went for a big red heart with an arrow and their initials, C + J. Don't worry though — Chip used adhesive stickers and not actual spray paint for the oversized love note! "Jo loves love notes! And I love @joannagaines," the construction wizard professed in an Instagram post on Feb. 14. "So I went on a late night mission here at the silos in Waco to try and put out a beacon to her heart." Joanna posted a photo of the romantic gesture on Instagram too with the caption, "I love you too @chipgaines #happyvalentinesday." That's one larger-than-life way of showing your love!
Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott had quite the celebration for daughter Stormi Webster's second birthday on Feb. 1, 2020, that was even more extravagant than her first b-day bash! They again called the extravaganza "Stormi World" but this time gave it a "Trolls" and "Frozen" theme and added the slogan "2 is better than 1." The celebration consisted of countless over-the-top attractions including a colorful slip and slide, a Stormi-themed claw machine, Stormi merchandise and carnival rides! TMZ initially estimated the cost of the celebration at $100K but later revised it to $500K. In any event, only stars could throw such extravagant parties for their little ones!
While it's certainly typical for celebrities to wear thousands of dollars' worth of jewelry during awards shows, Jennifer Lopez is one star who went over and above with her accessorizing. At the 2020 SAG Awards , the "Hustlers" actress-producer wore $9 million worth of Harry Winston diamonds (pictured here). J.Lo chose six opulent pieces that added up to 199.26 carats! From a cluster ring covered in diamonds to a cascading diamond necklace, J.Lo looked incredibly luxurious in a way that only a star could!
Only a celebrity would do this! In February 2020 while out with friends not long before he performed during Super Bowl weekend, music star Post Malone was seen with a plethora of cardboard boxes filled with $1 bills that added up to an impressive $50,000. According to TMZ, the singer and his entourage were seen throwing the cash around at a Miami disco, literally making it rain money for clubgoers!
Jeff Bezos can now add "owner of the most expensive residential property in California" to his list of achievements! In February 2020, news broke revealing that the Amazon founder and CEO shelled out $255M for two lavish L.A. properties that he and girlfriend Lauren Sanchez will reportedly call home. The business and media mogul bought the nine-acre Warner estate in Beverly Hills from fellow mogul David Geffen for $165M — a record-breaking deal for L.A. and the whole state. In addition to this mansion, Jeff also picked up the neighboring Enchanted Hill estate for $90M. According to TMZ, Jeff didn't use a real estate agent for the Warner house. Shelling out $255M on property? We can't even imagine!
In Justin Bieber's "Seasons" docuseries, which debuted in late January 2020, he revealed that he sleeps in a hyperbaric chamber and has IV infusions to flush out toxins to help him recover from years of drug abuse. In a clip, the "Changes" singer is seen going into his hyperbaric chamber. "It fills up with oxygen," he explained. "I really have been struggling with a lot of anxiety. You get more oxygen to your brain so it decreases your stress levels. It's pretty cool." Justin's wife, Hailey Bieber, supports his use of the chamber but also acknowledged, "People are going to think he is a crazy person. People are going to be like, 'What is this contraption machine, that's some rich people s—.'" It is!
Gwyneth Paltrow isn't the only star with a penchant for creating unconventionally scented items! In February 2020, singer-songwriter Erykah Badu released a variety of products in her online store — including incense created with the ashes of her underwear. "I took lots of pairs of my panties, cut them up into little pieces and burned them," she told 10Magazine. "Even the ash is part of it." (The $50-a-pop resin-based product, which is made by hand and sun-dried, is also created with essential oils and herbs.) The mag described the scent — which sold out within hours of its Feb. 20 launch, though it was later restocked — as an "olfactory tribute to what Badu calls her 'superpower.'" Only a celebrity would create something like this and actually have it sell!
We love an animal lover! According to the Daily Mail, Robert Downey Jr.'s love for creatures transcends his role in the 2020 film "Dolittle" as he's transformed his Malibu estate into a sanctuary for animals. The actor purchased the sprawling span of land in 2009 for $13.4 million and has since cultivated a wildlife refuge with specified areas to accommodate various types of animals including goats, alpacas, cows and chickens. The "Iron Man" star frequently takes to Instagram to post photos of his animals safely roaming and enjoying their new home.
An iridescent vehicle is a totally normal thing to own, right? In January 2020, socialite-turned-DJ Paris Hilton was seen in Los Angeles driving a custom holographic-wrapped BMW i8 Roadster that, according to The Sun, costs about $165K! In a YouTube video uploaded by the former "Simple Life" star, she revealed that the color and unique shine of her latest vehicle was inspired by the ensembles she wore to the Burning Man festival. Only in Hollywood!
On Jan. 9, 2020, "Fleabag" star Phoebe Waller-Bridge auctioned off the Ralph & Russo suit she wore to the 2020 Golden Globes on eBay for approximately $27,400. Her motivation? To raise money to help fight the Australian bushfires. The money was reportedly split amongst Phoebe's three specified charities — the Australian Red Cross Disaster Relief & Recovery Fund, the WIRES Wildlife Rescue Emergency Fund and Wildlife Victoria. In the Golden Globes press room on Jan. 5, after accepting her best actress in a TV comedy award, Phoebe shared the plan to auction off her ensemble. "We've hatched an amazing plan with Ralph & Russo, the Australian designers who created this incredible couture suit, which is the most extraordinary thing I've ever worn," she revealed. "We're going to auction it and the money raised will go towards relief in Australia."
Ryan Tedder — singer, songwriter, record producer and… real estate mogul? In January 2020, it was reported that the OneRepublic vocalist was among the investors who spent $38 million to buy the famed Walgreens building that's right across the street from the Park MGM on the Las Vegas Strip. (Fellow investors in the deal include the Chainsmokers.) This isn't the first property the music star has purchased though — he told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that he has properties all throughout the States and that his investment group is "very methodical." He also shared how special this business venture is for him and how different it is from the music business. "With my real estate portfolio, nobody touches it," he shared. In Nevada alone, Ryan has purchased an office building near Vegas's McCarran International Airport for $30.75M, another in the city's northwest valley for $9M and a building in Henderson for $19.45M. Only a star could simultaneously have an award-winning music career and a wildly impressive real estate portfolio!
Zayn Malik has proven that stars are nothing like us in a great way. In January 2020, the Daily Mail reported that the British pop star donated about $13,000 to the GoFundMe campaign of a young girl who required cancer treatment — 5-year-old Caitlin Robinson, who suffers from neuroblastoma. Caitlin's mother could hardly believe the former One Direction singer's generosity. "I want to thank Zayn Malik so much but I don't know how to get a hold of him," she shared. "I am so grateful to him."
