Hugh Grant plays Charles, an unmarried man who meets a beautiful American, Carrie (Andie MacDowell), at a wedding and subsequently falls in love with her. They almost miss out on romance, as they both find themselves engaged to other people, but end up finding their way back to each other… eventually.

"Four Weddings and a Funeral" shot Hugh Grant to superstardom. He continued to play irresistible and quirky Brits throughout the '90s, following it up with 1995's "Nine Months" and "Sense and Sensibility," 1999's "Notting Hill" and 2001's "Bridget Jones's Diary." He also stole hearts in 2002's "About a Boy" and 2003's "Love Actually." More recently, he starred on the British series "A Very English Scandal," which earned him both Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award nominations. Offscreen, his personal life nearly warrants its own film: The longtime bachelor welcomed his first child, daughter Tabitha, in September 2011 with girlfriend Tinglan Hong. He subsequently welcomed a second child, son John Mungo, with TV producer Anna Eberstein exactly one year later in September 2012. Then Hugh reunited with Tinglan and had another child, son Felix, in 2013, only to have another child with Anna, a daughter, in 2015. He then welcomed a third child with Anna in 2018, and the two wed a few months later.

Andie MacDowell plays Carrie, the beautiful American who attends a friend's wedding in England, quickly gets engaged, doesn't end up getting married and then accepts a non-proposal from Charles (Hugh Grant).

Andie MacDowell is still working steadily in Hollywood. She's starred in films like 1996's "Multiplicity," 2005's "Beauty Shop," 2011's "Footloose" and 2015's "Magic Mike XXL." More recently, she appeared in Netflix's "The Last Laugh." She's the only original cast member from the "Four Weddings" film currently in pre-production on a television adaptation of the beloved movie. The L'Oreal spokeswoman also continues to model, which is how she started her career. Offscreen, Andie divorced model Paul Qualley — the father of her three children — in 1999. Andie was married to businessman Rhett Hartzog from 2001 until 2004. She's currently single.

Fiona, a member of Charles's group of friends, is played by Kristin Scott Thomas. It turns out she's been in love with him all along. Unfortunately for Fiona, Charles doesn't reciprocate her feelings.

Kristin Scott Thomas followed up "Four Weddings and a Funeral" with a starring role in "The English Patient" in 1996. Her portrayal of Katharine Clifton earned her Golden Globe and Oscar nominations. She also starred in 1998's "The Horse Whisperer" and 1999's "Random Hearts" before taking time away from Hollywood to have her third child, George, in 2000. He joined daughter Hannah (born in 1988) and son Joseph (born in 1991), whom she shares with her doctor ex-husband, Francois Olivennes. They split in the mid-aughts, which is also when she was romantically linked to "Outlander" and "The Crown" actor Tobias Menzies, whom she met doing a theater project. She started working again in 2001, but focused more on the stage. She starred in plays like "The Seagull" in London and New York and "Betrayal" in London and also dabbled in French films in the late '00s. More recently, she appeared in critical darlings like 2012's "Bel Ami" and 2017's "Darkest Hour." Next up for the star? Playing BMW heiress Susanne Klatten in the upcoming thriller "Paramour," which is in pre-production.

Simon Callow plays Gareth, Charles's gregarious friend who brings a lot of comic relief before he tragically and unexpectedly passes away (subsequently leading to the film's titular funeral).

After playing Gareth in "Four Weddings and a Funeral," Simon Callow took on a wide range of roles in films from 1995's "Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls" and 1996's "James and the Giant Peach" to 1998's "Shakespeare in Love." He starred on the television show "Trial & Retribution" from 1998 until 2002, and then on "Doctor Who" from 2005 until 2011. More recently, he delivered a delicious performance as the Duke of Sandringham on "Outlander" in 2015 and 2016 and starred on the British comedy "The Rebel" from 2016 until 2017. As for his personal life? Simon was one of the first actors to come out publicly, via his book "Being an Actor" in 1984. He married partner Sebastian Fox in 2016.

Charlotte Coleman (right) portrays Scarlett, Charles's flatmate. She ends up marrying Chester, an American she meets at Carrie's failed wedding.

After starring in "Four Weddings and a Funeral," Charlotte Coleman went on to appear in more '90s films like 1996's "Different for Girls" and 1998's "Beautiful People." She starred on the BBC's "How Do You Want Me?" from 1998 until 1999. Charlotte was just 33 when she died in 2001 from an asthma attack. Her final project, "Double Act," came out in 2002.

Bringing some extra laughs? Comedian Rowan Atkinson, who plays Father Gerald.

Rowan Atkinson followed up "Four Weddings and a Funeral" with "The Lion King," voicing Zazu in the Disney cartoon the same year. From there, he appeared on the BBC sitcom "The Thin Blue Line" in 1995 and 1996 before transitioning to the stage to appear in the West End revival of "Oliver!" He also continued his comic work on the big screen through the "Mr. Bean" and "Johnny English" franchises, most recently appearing in theaters in 2018's "Johnny English Strikes Again." As for his personal life, Rowan was married to Sunetra Sastry (with whom he shares two kids) in 1990. They split in 2014 and divorced in 2015. Rowan is currently linked to Louise Ford, with whom he allegedly had an affair during his marriage. The couple share a son who was born in 2017.
