It's been 20 years since the groundbreaking sci-fi flick "The Matrix" debuted on March 31, 1999. In honor of the beloved blockbuster's big anniversary, Wonderwall.com is taking a look back at the stars of the film to see how they've changed over the years. Keanu Reeves returned to the role of Neo in the two sequels to "The Matrix" and starred in "The Replacements," "The Gift," "Sweet November," "Something's Gotta Give," "Constantine," "A Scanner Darkly," "The Lake House," "The Day the Earth Stood Still" and more. He also scored a sleeper hit with 2014's "John Wick," which spawned a trilogy — "John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum" is due in May 2019. In other trilogy news, Keanu and Alex Winter announced in March 2019 that they're reuniting for 2020's "Bill & Ted Face the Music." The beloved actor has been linked to a number of beauties over the years, including co-stars Charlize Theron, Winona Ryder, Sandra Bullock and Diane Keaton, but aside from the stray rumors here and there, he's managed to keep his love life almost completely on the down-low since his relationship with the late Jennifer Syme, David Lynch's former assistant, came to an end. The duo met in 1998 and were set to welcome a child together the same year that "The Matrix" debuted. Tragically, they lost their child and parted ways romantically. Jennifer died two years later.

Laurence Fishburne starred as Morpheus, the captain of the Nebuchadnezzar and Neo's mentor once he's freed from the Matrix.
Laurence Fishburne went on to star in "Mystic River," "Mission: Impossible III," "Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer," "Man of Steel" and "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," "Ride Along," "Passengers," "Ant-Man and the Wasp," "The Mule" and many more blockbuster hits. He also returned to the role of Morpheus in the two sequels to "The Matrix," reunited with Keanu Reeves in "John Wick: Chapter 2," starred as Nelson Mandela on BET's "Madiba" miniseries, starred in the 2016 "Roots" remake, portrayed Jack Crawford on "Hannibal" and starred on "CSI" between 2008 and 2011. On top of all that, he's appeared on "Black-ish" since 2014 and earned a Tony nomination in 2008 for his work as Thurgood Marshall in the one-man play "Thurgood." Laurence married Gina Torres in 2002. They welcomed daughter Delilah in 2007, but it wasn't meant to be: They separated in 2016, and in late 2017, he filed for divorce. He also has a son and a daughter from his first marriage.
Carrie-Anne Moss starred as Trinity, a world-famous hacker freed from the Matrix by Morpheus.
Carrie-Anne Moss went on to star in "Red Planet," "Memento," "Chocolat," "Disturbia," "Pompeii" and more. She also returned to the role of Trinity in the two sequels to "The Matrix," starred as Jeri Hogarth on "Jessica Jones" and had stints on "Humans" and "Chuck." The Canadian actress married actor Steven Roy the same year "The Matrix" opened in theaters. They've since welcomed two sons and a daughter.
Hugo Weaving starred as Agent Smith, a computer program within the Matrix tasked with thwarting Morpheus.
Hugo Weaving went on to star as Elrond in "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit." He also returned to the role of Agent Smith in the two sequels to "The Matrix" and starred in "V for Vendetta," "The Wolfman," "Captain America: The First Avenger," "Cloud Atlas," "Hacksaw Ridge," "Mortal Engines" and more. He's also the voice of Megatron in the "Transformers" franchise and starred on the 2018 Showtime miniseries "Patrick Melrose." The Australian actor has an adult son, actor Harry Greenwood, and daughter, Holly, with his partner of around 35 years, Katrina Greenwood. "SMILF" and "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri" actress Samara Weaving is his niece.
Joe Pantoliano starred as Cypher, a traitorous member of the crew of the Nebuchadnezzar who was previously freed from the Matrix by Morpheus.
Joe Pantoliano's biggest hits following "The Matrix" include "Memento," "Daredevil," "Bad Boys II," "Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief" and, of course, "The Sopranos," for which he won an Emmy in 2003. He also reunited with the Wachowskis for their cult Netflix series "Sense8" and is set to return to the role of Captain Howard in 2020's "Bad Boys for Life." Joe and wife Nancy Sheppard-Pantoliano celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in February 2019. They share two daughters. Joe also has a son, Marco, from his first marriage.
Marcus Chong starred as Tank, the Nebuchadnezzar's "operator." Like his brother, Dozer, he was born free in Zion.
Marcus Chong — who was born Marcus Wyatt but changed his name when he was 18 to honor his "uncle" Tommy Chong — was written out of the two sequels to "The Matrix" (and replaced by Harold Perrineau's character, Link) after he launched legal action against Warner Bros. and the producers of "The Matrix" over a pay dispute. In early 2018, he released a documentary on YouTube chronicling his career and telling his side of the story. Before that, he hadn't been seen on camera since a pair of 2013 shorts. The former child star also appeared in 2005's "The Crow: Wicked Prayer" and popped up on episodes of "Law & Order: SVU," "Law & Order: Criminal Intent," "Numb3rs" and "Burn Notice."
Anthony Ray Parker starred as Dozer, Tank's brother and a member of the crew of the Nebuchadnezzar.
Anthony Ray Parker went on to star in 2006's "The Marine" and had a five-episode stint on "Spartacus" in 2013. The American actor, who's appeared in countless shorts since he starred in "The Matrix," also found success in Australia and New Zealand, where he lived for years — though he's based predominantly in the United States. In 2013, one of his two sons, Joseph Lavell Parker, made headlines for his involvement in the Kiwi "Roast Busters" sex scandal. (According to some reports, the aspiring musician was actually the ringleader of the group.) The actor's older son, Anthony Jr., reportedly works in real estate in Aucklund. He also has a daughter.
Matt Doran starred as computer programmer Mouse, a member of the crew of the Nebuchadnezzar who was previously freed from the Matrix.
Matt Doran continues to appear regularly on camera — predominantly in his native Australia — though he's also popped up in "Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones," "The Great Raid" and 2017's "Trafficked." He and his wife, textile designer Teri McPhillips, reportedly welcomed a daughter in 2017.
Julian Arahanga starred as Apoc, another member of the crew of the Nebuchadnezzar who was previously freed from the Matrix.
Julian Arahanga has appeared on camera only a handful of times in the years since he starred in "The Matrix" — and almost exclusively in his native New Zealand. Most notably, he had a bit role in Taika Waititi's 2007 comedy "Eagle vs Shark." Julian then transitioned to work behind the camera, writing, directing and executive producing two documentaries, 2008's "Turangaarere: The John Pohe Story" and 2017's "Beyond the Battalion." He also produced and directed the Kiwi docuseries "Songs from the Inside." He and his wife, Becca, welcomed their first child, daughter Ruby, in 2002. They've since added two sons to their brood.
Belinda McClory starred as Switch, another member of the crew of the Nebuchadnezzar who was previously freed from the Matrix.
Belinda McClory continues to appear regularly on camera, though almost exclusively in her native Australia. Most notably, she starred on a crime-drama called "The Doctor Blake Mysteries" from 2014 to 2017. She also co-wrote three Australian films with her husband, Jon Hewitt. (He directed all three.)
Paul Goddard portrayed Agent Brown and Robert Taylor portrayed Agent Jones, two computer programs within the Matrix tasked with assisting Agent Smith on his mission to thwart Morpheus.
Paul Goddard went on to star as Stark on "Farscape" from 2000 to 2003 and had a two-episode stint on the second season of "Top of the Lake" in 2017. He's only appeared on camera a handful of times since then — primarily in his native Australia. He also works as a "learning and development consultant" at a company that aims to help organizations "become more successful by coaching individuals to be better leaders and communicators."
Robert Taylor went on to star in "Vertical Limit," "Ned Kelly," "Focus," "Kong: Skull Island," "The Meg" and more. He also had the title role on the A&E and Netflix series "Longmire" from 2012 to 2017. Up next, he'll appear on the Netflix anthology series "Dolly Parton's Heartstrings." In July 2017 — after 16 years of coupledom — Robert wed Ayisha Davies, with whom he welcomed a daughter, Scarlett, in 2011.
Gloria Foster portrayed The Oracle, a prophet within the Matrix who helps Morpheus and his band of rebels.
After "The Matrix," Gloria Foster appeared on a 2000 episode of "Soul Food." She died at age 67 due to complications from diabetes on Sept. 29, 2001. The former Broadway star posthumously returned to the role of The Oracle in 2003's "The Matrix Reloaded."
