20 albums turning 20 in 2020

It's been 20 years since the '00s kicked off and blessed us with some fabulous music. If you're in need of some playlist inspiration, Wonderwall.com is rounding up 20 albums turning 20 in 2020 that you can listen to — like this one! April 4, 2000, marked the release of the debut album from an artist we'd get very familiar with over the next two decades — Pink! "Can't Take Me Home" yielded three big hits: "There You Go," "Most Girls" and "You Make Me Sick," which was also featured on the "Save the Last Dance" soundtrack. If you turned on the radio in the year 2000, chances are you heard a Shaggy song! The singer released his fifth album, "Hotshot," on Aug. 8. It included the big hit singles "It Wasn't Me" (which reached No. 1 that December) and "Angel." The album itself topped the Billboard 200 chart.

Next up? The bestselling album of 2000 — "No Strings Attached." This classic *NSYNC album hit record store shelves that March 21 and debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 chart — where it stayed for eight weeks. It also set an impressive record as the first album to sell more than 2 million copies in one week, which wasn't broken until 2015 when Adele released "25."

Not to be outdone by their rivals, the Backstreet Boys also put out an album in 2000. "Black and Blue" hit shelves on Nov. 21 and sold 5 million copies around the world — setting a record for best international sales in one week. Among the hits on BSB's fourth album? "Shape of My Heart," "The Call" and "More Than That." 

Nelly introduced the world to "Country Grammar" on June 27, 2000. The rapper's debut album, which included the smash hits "Country Grammar," "E.I." and "Ride Wit Me," topped the Billboard 200 chart for five weeks. 

Another star who hit the music scene in 2000? Nelly Furtado, who released the debut album "Whoa, Nelly!" on Oct. 24. The Canadian singer made a major impact with the first single, "I'm Like a Bird," which went on to become one of the most popular songs of 2001. "Whoa, Nelly!" earned four Grammy nominations, including a nod for best pop vocal album. 

Britney Spears' second album, "Oops!… I Did It Again," celebrated its 20th anniversary on May 16. It debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 back in 2000 while also setting a record for the highest first-week album sales by a female artist at that time (the record would later be bested by Adele's "25" in 2015). Ultimately, it yielded four big hits — the title track, "Lucky," "Stronger" and "Don't Let Me Be the Last to Know." 

The most peculiar album title of 2000? That goes to Limp Bizkit's "Chocolate Starfi** and the H** D** Flavored Water," which celebrates its 20-year anniversary on Oct. 17, 2000. The album included the singles "My Generation," "Rollin'" and "My Way" and set a record for the biggest first-week sales for a rock band since that information began being tracked in 1991.

Madonna's eighth studio album came out in 2000. "Music" — which shared a title with its lead single, also included songs like "Don't Tell Me" and "What It Feels Like for a Girl." After its Sept. 18 release, it debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 and picked up five Grammy nominations (and one win for best recording package). 

Rapper Eminem's third album, "The Marshall Mathers LP," dropped on May 23, 2000, and — as expected — debuted at the top of the Billboard 200, where it stayed for eight weeks. It's still spotted on some lists of the greatest albums of all time. 

U2's "All That You Can't Leave Behind" — which is considered by some to be one of the best albums of all time, with Rolling Stone ranking it at No. 139 on their list of the top 500 — turns 20 on Oct. 30, 2020. Among the memorable songs the album spawned? "Beautiful Day," "Elevation" and "Stuck in a Moment You Can't Get Out Of." 

You still hear tunes from this next album! Outkast's "Stankonia" celebrates its 20th birthday on Oct. 31, 2020. Though it was the group's fourth album, it resulted in their first ever No. 1 single on the Billboard Hot 100 — "Ms. Jackson." The album also spawned their other huge hit, "So Fresh, So Clean," and earned them two Grammys (for best rap album and best rap performance by a duo or group for "Ms. Jackson"). 

Also turning 20? No Doubt's fourth album, "Return of Saturn," which included singles like "Ex-Girlfriend," "Simple Kind of Life," "Bathwater" and "New." During its first week, the Gwen Stefani-fronted effort came in at No. 2 on the Billboard 200.

Boy bands were flourishing at the turn of the century — including 98 Degrees, who joined their counterparts in releasing an album in 2000. "Revelation," the group's fourth effort, dropped on Sept. 26 then shot up the charts to debut at No. 2 on the Billboard 200. It included their hit song "Give Me Just One Night" as well as more sentimental songs like "My Everything."

Nov. 13, 2000, marked the release of the Beatles album "1," which included almost all of the band's No. 1 singles over the years. The date was calculated — it was released on the 30th anniversary of their breakup — and despite being filled with familiar tunes, it went on to become the bestselling album of the '00s. 

The Spice Girls — minus Geri Halliwell! — put out their third studio album on Nov. 1, 2000, "Forever." It included "Goodbye," which was actually released as a single in 1998. But despite the past success of the girl group, the album wasn't a smash hit in the States, only charting at No. 39 on the Billboard 200. 

2000 blessed us with "No Name Face" — the debut album from the rock band Lifehouse that spawned the hit "Hanging by a Moment." The album came out on Oct. 31 and peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard 200, with "Hanging By a Moment" going on to become a No. 1 single the following year. 

Another group that first hit the scene in 2000? Coldplay, which released debut album "Parachutes" on July 10, 2000. Among the singles on that first album were the smash hit "Yellow" and the tunes "Trouble" and "Shiver." 

JAY-Z put out his fifth album in 2000 — "The Dynasty: Roc La Familia." It dropped on Oct. 31 and included his hit "I Just Wanna Love U." It debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and went on to become the 20th highest selling hip-hop album of the '00s overall. 

Radiohead's "Kid A" also came out in 2000. The band released this album, their fourth, on Oct. 2, and it went on to become their first No. 1 album in the States — all without releasing singles or music videos. "Kid A" also earned them a best alternative album Grammy. The project is considered by many to be one of the best albums of all time (Rolling Stone ranked it at No. 67 on its list of the top 500 albums ever).
