Selena Gomez seeking treatment after hospitalization, emotional breakdown
Selena Gomez sought out a mental health treatment program in October after allegedly being hospitalized for issues related to her 2017 kidney transplant then suffering an emotional breakdown, according to reports published on Oct. 10. The singer reportedly checked into an East Coast psychiatric facility to receive dialectical behavior therapy. "Selena has dealt with depression for a while and the people around her have always kept an eye on how she feels, even more so since her kidney transplant. Selena wasn't feeling well and went to the hospital, as she does whenever she feels off. After further monitoring, it was decided that Selena would seek treatment at a [mental health] facility," a source told "Entertainment Tonight."

Republicans, white nationalists speak out against Taylor Swift after Democrat endorsements
Republican leaders and white nationalist groups condemned Taylor Swift on Oct. 8 after the singer endorsed Democratic candidates Phil Bredesen and Rep. Jim Cooper in a post on Instagram — the first time she's ever taken a public political stance. "Multimillionaire pop star Taylor Swift came down from her ivory tower to tell hardworking Tennesseans to vote for Phil Bredesen," the National Republican Senate Committee said of the singer. Taylor wrote that although she's been "reluctant to publicly voice" her political opinions in the past, she now feels compelled to "cast my vote based on which candidate will protect and fight for the human rights I believe we all deserve in this country."

Fleetwood Mac dispute Lindsey Buckingham's claims amidst lawsuit
Fleetwood Mac fired back at longtime guitarist Lindsey Buckingham on Oct. 12 after Lindsey filed a lawsuit accusing his former bandmates of wrongful termination. Cardi B facing assault charges after strip club fight
Cardi B is facing assault and reckless endangerment charges after turning herself in at a New York City police station on Oct. 1. The rapper was allegedly involved in an altercation with a 23-year-old bartender at a Queens strip club in August during which chairs, bottles and hookah water pipes were thrown. "We are aware of no evidence that she caused anybody any harm from that night," Cardi's lawyer, Jeff Kern, told reporters. "We expect the matter to be resolved expeditiously."

Ex-rap mogul Suge Knight sentenced to 28 years in prison for murder
Marion "Suge" Knight, the former owner of Death Row Records, was sentenced to 28 years in prison on Oct. 4, four years after he killed one man and injured another with his truck. The 53 year old music mogul accepted a plea deal offered by Los Angeles prosecutors on Sept. 20 — just a few days before he was scheduled to stand trial for attempted murder and murder.
Two new Las Vegas residencies announced
On Oct. 18, Britney Spears announced her second Las Vegas residency: "Britney: Domination" will open at the new Park MGM resort in February 2019. On Oct. 24, Lady Antebellum announced that they, like so many other musical acts, are launching a Las Vegas show. "Our Kind of Vegas," a 15-date residency, will include shows in February, May and August 2019 at the Palms Casino Resort.
Tina Turner musical to open on Broadway
A new Tina Turner musical is headed to Broadway next year, according to reports published on Oct. 3. "Tina," a show based on the life of the legendary singer, will debut in New York City in the fall of 2019. The casting, performance dates and exact location of the musical have not yet been released.
Canadian rapper Jon James falls to his death during airplane stunt
Canadian rapper Jon James McMurray fell to his death on Oct. 20 after slipping off an airplane wing while filming a music video. The 34 year old, who had reportedly been training for the stunt for months, was performing on the wing of a plane when he fell. "…As Jon got further out onto the wing of the plane, it caused the small Cessna to go into a downward spiral that the pilot couldn't correct," his team said in a statement. "Jon held onto the wing until it was too late, and by the time he let go, he didn't have time to pull his chute. He impacted and died instantly."

Stevie Nicks, The Cure and other iconic musicians were nominated for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on Oct. 9. Fyre Festival organizer Billy McFarland sentenced to six years in prison
Billy McFarland, organizer of the disastrous Fyre Festival, was sentenced to six years in prison on Oct. 11. The 26 year old pled guilty to fraud and was immediately taken into custody following his sentencing. The charges stem from April 2017 when he deceived fans into paying thousands of dollars for faulty accommodations and tickets to a Caribbean concert that never occurred.
Lady Gaga talks mental health, suicide in powerful op-ed
Lady Gaga — who's been drawing raves all month for her performance in October's "A Star is Born" — addressed suicide and the world's "mental health emergency" in a powerful essay she wrote in collaboration with the director general of the World Health Organization. "Despite the universality of the issue, we struggle to talk about it openly or to offer adequate care or resources," the pair wrote, in part, for The Guardian on Oct. 9. "Within families and communities, we often remain silenced by a shame that tells us that those with mental illness are somehow less worthy or at fault for their own suffering." The same month, Gaga made headlines for finally confirming that she is engaged to agent Christian Carino.
