Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin dies at 76
Aretha Franklin, one of the most respected and celebrated musical artists of all time, died at her home in Detroit at age 76, her family announced on Aug. 16. The legendary singer, who passed away after a long battle with advanced pancreatic cancer of the neuroendocrine type, was remembered by dozens of celebrity friends including Elton John, Smokey Robinson and President Barack Obama.

Republican leaders slam Pearl Jam poster of burning White House
Republican leaders spoke out on Aug. 15 against a Pearl Jam poster that shows the White House engulfed in flames and a bald eagle pecking at a skeleton they say is meant to depict President Donald Trump. The National Republican Senate Committee criticized the poster as "gory" and "encouraging violence" against Trump, similar to Kathy Griffin's fake decapitation photo.

Rascal Flatts concert stopped due to bomb threat, police say
A bomb threat caused Rascal Flatts to abruptly end a concert in Indiana last week, police announced on Aug. 14. Authorities deemed a threat made concerning the Ruoff Home Mortgage Music Center in suburban Indianapolis a credible danger but would not release any further details while it was being investigated, according to the the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department.
Aerosmith announces Las Vegas residency
Aerosmith is coming to Las Vegas! The rock band announced a headlining residency, "Deuces Are Wild," at the Park Theater at the Park MGM beginning on April 6, 2019. "We are going to bring hot, sexy rock 'n' roll to Vegas!!" Steven Tyler and Joe Perry said on Aug. 15. "The residency allows us to take 50 years of performing experience and create a one-of-a-kind show with the best music, best production design, best sound, in a world-class state-of-the-art venue. These shows will be epic!" The concerts are currently scheduled through July 9, 2019.

Fans of the iconic band freaked out on Aug. 13 when John Lennon and Yoko Ono's only son, Sean Ono Lennon, posted a photo of himself and Paul McCartney's son, James McCartney, on Instagram. The two scions bear a striking resemblance to their fathers in the selfie, which Sean captioned, "Peekaboo…"
