R. Kelly pays $62K in child support to avoid jail time
R. Kelly handed his ex-wife, with whom he has three kids, a check for $62,000 on May 8 to avoid jail time in his ongoing child support case. The controversial R&B singer made the payment, which covers the months of March, April and May, during a court hearing at the Daley Center in Chicago.

UCLA rescinds Don McLean's lifetime achievement award over domestic violence guilty plea
Don McLean will no longer be honored with a lifetime achievement award from UCLA's student alumni association. The group rescinded the award on May 7 after learning that the singer pleaded guilty to domestic violence charges in 2016. "SAA rejects any behavior — including violence and the threat of violence in all its forms — that does not uphold the True Bruin Values. We extend our support to survivors of domestic violence," Tod M. Tamberg, senior executive director of UCLA Strategic Communications Media Relations, said in a statement.
Common reveals he was molested as a child
Common is opening up about childhood trauma in his new memoir, "Let Love Have the Last Word." The rapper revealed that he was molested by a family friend when he was 9 or 10 years old during a family trip to Cleveland. "At some point I felt Brandon's hand on me," he writes. "I pushed him away. I don't remember saying a whole lot besides 'No, no, no.'" Common shared that the repressed memory didn't come back to him until he was workshopping with a friend, actress Laura Dern, in 2017.

Spinderella says Salt-N-Pepa fired her via email
Spinderella says she is no longer a part of Salt-N-Pepa. The DJ revealed on Instagram that Sandra Denton and Cheryl James kicked her out of the iconic rap group nearly five months ago. "I'm deeply saddened to share with all the #SaltnPepa and #Spinderella fans that I will not be performing on the #NKOTB Mixtape Tour," she wrote on May 2. "Despite my participation in promoting the tour and being highly publicized as one of the acts, in January 2019 I received a 'termination' email from #SaltnPepa excluding me from performances with the group."
Boston orchestra finds child who delighted audience with "wow!"
A Boston orchestra found one very special little boy after a week-long search. The Handel & Haydn Society, the oldest performing arts group in the United States, put out a call to find a young boy who shouted "wow!" after their May 5 performance of Mozart's "Masonic Funeral." "It was one of the most wonderful moments I've experienced in the concert hall," President and CEO David Snead wrote in a May 7 letter to concertgoers. The group found the boy, 9-year-old Ronan Mattin, on May 10 and are setting up a meeting between the child and the society's artistic director, Harry Christophers.
