Carrie Underwood on country radio: Women don't get same opportunities
Carrie Underwood wants more women on country music radio. "Even when I was growing up, I wished there was more women on the radio, and I had a lot more than there are today," Carrie explained on a new "Women Want to Hear Women" podcast. "I think about all the little girls that are sitting at home saying, 'I want to be a country music singer.' What do you tell them, you know? What do you do? How do you look at them and say, 'Well, just work hard, sweetie, and you can do it,' when that's probably not the case right now? I see so many girls out there busting their rear ends and so many guys out there where some new guy has a No. 1 and I'm like, 'Well, good for you, that's great, but who are you?" One way Carrie is hoping to combat this discrepancy is to take women out on the road with her when she kicks off her tour in 2019.

Pastor stands firm after Aretha Franklin funeral criticism
The Rev. Jasper Williams Jr. is not backing down! The pastor has been taking heat for saying that black America is losing "its soul" at Aretha Franklin's funeral in Detroit on Aug. 31. "I was trying to show that the movement now is moving and should move in a different direction," he explained. "What we need to do is create respect among ourselves. Aretha is the person with that song, 'R-E-S-P-E-C-T,' that is laid out for us and what we need to be as a race within ourselves. We need to show each other that. We need to show each other respect. That was the reason why I did it."

Dolores O'Riordan cause of death revealed
Seven months after her death, Dolores O'Riordan's cause of death has finally been explained. A September inquest revealed that the Cranberries singer accidentally drowned in the bathtub of her London hotel room after excessive drinking. Toxicology reports indicate that the Irish music star's blood alcohol content was more than four times the legal limit to drive when she died in January.

Paul McCartney claims to have seen God during a drug trip
Paul McCartney has recently opened up about an experience he had during a psychedelic trip where he believes he saw God. The iconic musician told Britain's The Sunday Times, "A massive wall that I couldn't see the top of, and I was at the bottom. And anybody else would say it's just the drug, the hallucination, but we felt we had seen a higher thing." Regardless, Paul said he was "humbled" by the experience.
Dave Grohl loses his voice, cancels two Foo Fighters dates
On the heels of Dave Grohl losing his voice during a performance in Seattle on Sept. 1, the Foo Fighters have canceled two dates on the Canadian leg of their "Concrete and Gold" tour. Dave made light of the situation when he released this statement: "That's the last time I make out with Bono." Much like Dave, Bono had to cancel some U2 performances after abruptly losing his voice onstage in Berlin.
Rapper T-Pain held at airport for having gun in carry-on
T-Pain and his bodyguard were held at the Atlanta Airport for attempting to carry a gun through security in their carry-on luggage. Reports claim that police found a gun in a backpack that belonged to the Grammy-winning singer-rapper and that the bag was being carried by his bodyguard, Carlos Aleili Flores. After a brief investigation, it was confirmed that T-Pain did indeed have a permit to carry the weapon.
Ty Dolla $ign arrested for allegedly possessing drugs
Ty Dolla $ign was arrested for drug possession of cocaine and marijuana while en route to a concert in Atlanta. A van transporting the rapper and six others was pulled over just before 5 p.m. on Sept. 5 and everyone in the vehicle was arrested, though the other six passengers are not expected to be charged, according to The Blast.
Musician deaths
George Strait's longtime drummer, Mike Kennedy, 59, died in a car accident in Lebanon, Tennessee, on Aug. 30. The musician was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. "Hard to put into words how much Mike's passing has affected us all. Our hearts are broken," George said of his bandmate of 30 years. The music world lost another one with the death of Conway Savage, 58, the pianist for Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds. A rep for the band said the musician, who had surgery to remove a brain tumor in 2017, died on Sept. 2 as a result of that health struggle.
