CBS News overhauls anchors in bid for new era
On May 6, CBS News announced some major changes to its lineup: Anthony Mason and Tony Dokoupil are joining Gayle King on "CBS This Morning," while current "This Morning" host Norah O'Donnell is taking over "CBS Evening News" sometime this summer. (In the fall, she'll move the program's production operations from New York City to Washington, D.C.) Meanwhile, John Dickerson is moving from "CBS This Morning" to "60 Minutes," and Jeff Glor is stepping down from "CBS Evening News." He's reportedly discussing his next move with the network.

"Nashville Flipped" star Troy Dean Shafer dies at 38
"Nashville Flipped" star Troy Dean Shafer died in his sleep on April 28, TMZ reported on May 8. According to the restoration expert's brother, the 38 year old had no known medical issues. The coroner's office in Erie, Pennsylvania, told TMZ that an autopsy was not performed but that a toxicology report is forthcoming.

Stage actress Barbara Perry, who appeared on "The Dick Van Dyke Show," dies at 97
Dancer-actress Barbara Perry died from natural causes in Hollywood on May 5. She was 97. The former star of the stage popped up on episodes of "The Dick Van Dyke Show," "The Andy Griffith Show" and "Bewitched" and appeared on the small screen for the last time on a 2017 episode of "Baskets."

Why fans are livid over the latest "Game of Thrones" death
Some "Game of Thrones" fans took issue with the death of Nathalie Emmanuel's Missandei — the loyal friend and adviser of Emilia Clarke's Daenerys Targaryen — on the May 5 episode of the hit HBO series. At Cersei's command, The Mountain beheaded the former slave, who was one of only two non-white characters with a name featured on "GoT," in front of Dany and Missandei's love, Jacob Anderson's Grey Worm — the other non-white character currently featured on the show. Critics argued that the series used Missandei as a prop to further the story arc of a white character (Dany) rather than fully fleshing out her character. Adding insult to injury, the former slave died in chains.
Seth Meyers and Meghan McCain clash over Rep. Ilhan Omar on "Late Night"
On the May 7 episode of "Late Night with Seth Meyers," Meghan McCain doubled down on her previous comments that U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar's criticism of pro-Israel policy is anti-Semitic — which the former "Saturday Night Live" star called dangerous, citing the death threats the Democratic congresswoman has received in the wake of the San Diego synagogue shooting in April. The interview between the liberal host and the conservative "The View" panelist got increasingly heated from there. McCain's husband, Ben Domenech, took to Twitter to disparage Meyers and his line of questioning in a series of since-deleted tweets, calling the former actor "unfunny," "untalented" and "an awful person who is known within the industry for how terrible he is." Domenech returned to Twitter on May 8 to apologize: "I love my wife. I apologize for rage tweeting about how Seth Meyers treated her. I don't like him, I think he's a hack, but I shouldn't have done that. I'm sorry to anyone I offended," he wrote.
Marie Osmond to replace Sara Gilbert on "The Talk"
"The Talk" announced on May 7 that Marie Osmond will replace Sara Gilbert when the series returns for its 10th season in September. The singer-actress has appeared on the CBS daytime talk show as a guest and as a guest co-host several times over the years.
Busy Philipps' talk show "Busy Tonight" canceled, star vows to shop series elsewhere
Busy Philipps took to Instagram on May 5 to announce that E! canceled her late-night talk show, "Busy Tonight," after just six months. "It's the perfect dress for both the Ren Fair AND to let you know my show 'Busy Tonight' won't be returning to the E! network after May 16," she captioned a photo of herself dressed for a local Renaissance festival. "We have 8 more shows on E! and then who knows what the future will bring," she continued, elaborating on her Instagram Story that she's "meeting with people" to find another home for the show. "I would like to continue doing it. We would all like to figure out a way to continue to make it," she said.
HBO has already digitally removed that coffee cup from recent "Game of Thrones" episode
An HBO representative told TheWrap on May 7 that the to-go coffee cup pictured in front of Emilia Clarke's Daenerys Targaryen on the May 5 episode of "Game of Thrones" has already been removed from the version of the episode that's currently available for streaming on HBO Go. The anachronistic goof will not appear on any future broadcasts of the episode.
