Zooey Deschanel was primarily known as an indie actress when "New Girl" premiered in 2011. The Los Angeles native had starred in "Elf," "500 Days of Summer" and "Yes Man" before the show's debut, but still managed to keep a relatively low profile. Today, Zooey is an in-demand star who has a mainstream fanbase thanks to her leading role on "New Girl," her music and her digital ventures. The 38 year old — who received one Emmy and three Golden Globe nominations for her work as Jess — has released four albums as part of duo She & Him since "New Girl" launched. She also co-founded the female-focused website HelloGiggles, which was acquired by Time Inc. for a reported $30 million in 2015. Zooey's also achieved success in her personal life since "New Girl" premiered: She divorced Death Cab for Cutie rocker Ben Gibbard in 2011 and married film producer Jacob Pechenik in 2015. The couple are parents to daughter Elsie Otter (born in July 2015) and son Charlie Wolf (born in May 2017).

Max Greenfield stars as Schmidt, a former ladies' man who is Jess's roommate and eventually CeCe's husband, on "New Girl."
Max Greenfield is considered by many to be the true breakout star of "New Girl." The 37-year-old actor only had a few small, recurring roles on "Veronica Mars," "Ugly Betty" and "Greek" when "New Girl" debuted in 2011. Since then, Max has received Emmy, Critics' Choice and Golden Globe nominations for his work as Schmidt. He lent his voice to the "Ice Age" franchise and appeared in the hit FX series "The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story." Max has also managed to achieve something many Hollywood stars haven't: a long-lasting marriage. The New York native married casting director Tess Sanchez in 2008. The couple share two children, daughter Lilly and son Ozzie.
Hannah Simone stars as CeCe Parekh — a model, Jess's best friend since childhood and Schmidt's eventual wife — on "New Girl."
Like many of her "New Girl" co-stars, Hannah Simone achieved mainstream success after appearing on the show. The British-born Canadian actress began her career as a host and VJ on HGTV Canada's "Space for Living" and MuchMusic's "Much News Weekly" and "The NewMusic." Hannah's role as CeCe was her first professional experience with acting outside of a few guest roles on "Kevin Hill" and "Kojak." Today, Hannah is celebrated for her acting skills and recently secured another starring role on ABC's reboot of "The Greatest American Hero." The 37-year-old actress married Canadian TV journalist Jesse Giddings, another former MuchMusic VJ, in 2016. The pair welcomed a son in August 2017.
Jake Johnson stars as Nick Miller, Jess's roommate and on-again, off-again boyfriend who works as a bartender, on "New Girl."
"New Girl" gave Jake Johnson's career a big boost. When the show debuted in 2011, Jake was still an up-and-coming actor who'd done a guest role on "Curb Your Enthusiasm" and appeared in "Get Him to the Greek." Today, the 39 year old has built quite the resume. In addition to his role as Nick on "New Girl," Jake has also starred in numerous blockbusters such as "Jurassic World," "The Mummy" and "The Lego Movie." He is also the inspiration behind the super-successful Comedy Central show "Drunk History." Jake was drunk and trying to describe the story of Otis Redding's death to series creator Derek Waters. Derek reportedly became inspired by the conversation and developed a show around history narrated by drunk people. Jake has been happily married to artist Erin Payne since 2006.
Lamorne Morris (right) stars as Winston Bishop — a former basketball player, Nick's childhood friend and Jess's roommate — on "New Girl."
Similar to "New Girl" co-star Hannah Simone, Lamorne Morris began his career as a host. The Chicago native hosted numerous programs on BET plus the Cartoon Network game show "BrainRush" before securing his role on "New Girl" in 2011. Today, Lamorne has expanded his career tremendously, starring in "Sex Ed," "Game Night," "Sandy Wexler" and "Barbershop: The Next Cut." The 34-year-old actor is currently dating E! News correspondent Erin Lim.
Damon Wayans Jr. (left) plays Coach, one of Jess's old roommates who's an athlete-turned-personal trainer, on "New Girl."
Damon Wayans Jr. had a successful career when he landed his role as Coach on "New Girl." In fact, the actor's professional schedule became so busy that he had to leave the show. Damon started out as a principal cast member on "New Girl" in 2011 but exited when another show he starred on, "Happy Endings," got picked up for a second season. The 35 year old eventually returned to "New Girl" as a recurring character and has since starred in "How to Be Single," "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" and "Let's Be Cops" with "New Girl" colleague Jake Johnson. Damon — who's the son of actor-comedian Damon Wayans and nephew of Keenen Ivory Wayans, Shawn Wayans and Marlon Wayans — is also a married man. He wed Samara Saraiva in 2016 and shares two daughters with ex-girlfriend Aja Metoyer.
