Expectant mom Bindi Irwin is sending good vibes to a new mom.
On Feb. 11, the wildlife advocate posted a heartbreaking image to her Instagram that showed a koala undergoing "life-saving surgery" after being attacked by a dog. The koala was protecting her little one in her pouch.
"Today I got to spend time with beautiful Kate the koala. She arrived at our Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital after she was attacked by a dog," Bindi captioned the snap. "The team discovered that she had severe injuries to her torso, preventing her from breathing properly."
"After receiving life-saving surgery to repair her injuries, she is now recovering in the Intensive Care Unit. Kate is also carrying a little joey in her pouch, who she bravely protected when the dog attacked her," Bindi continued. "Now Kate and her baby will remain in care until they are ready to return to the wild. Please send good vibes as they continue to heal."
The post comes just a few weeks before Bindi is set to welcome a daughter with her husband, Chandler Powell. It's the first child for the couple, who married in March 2020 at Australia Zoo.
On Jan. 26, the former "Dancing With The Stars" winner gave her Instagram followers a peek at the baby's stunning nursery.
"Sharing our deepest gratitude to YOU reading this message as we get ready for our daughter to arrive. The support we have received from your kind comments, Chandler's family in Florida, mine in Oregon, friends across the globe, our amazing Australia Zoo family – it means the world to us," she said. "Baby Wildlife Warrior is already so loved and we are eternally grateful. With all my heart, thank you."
