Buddy Valastro is giving his favorite healthcare workers a little sugar.
To show his appreciation to the doctor who saved his hand following his bowling accident, the "Cake Boss" built a towering cake to emulate the hospital where he was treated. This week, he presented the fondant masterpiece to the staff of Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City.
Not by coincidence, the top of the cake features a hand giving a thumbs up, a nod to Buddy's injury.
"Check out the super special cake I made for Dr. Michelle Carlson, the nurses and staff at @hspecialsurgery as a token of my immense appreciation," he wrote on Instagram. "It replicates the main hospital there in #NYC."
He added, "I could never thank them enough for all they have done to help me on this journey to a full recovery ♥️ #roadtorecovery #healthcareheroes #heroes."
In his post, he shared closeup images of the cake, and he also posed for an image with Dr. Carlson.
"That was spectacular. To see this beautiful cake that someone has made for you – it really shows they appreciate what you've done, and that's the best there is," Dr. Carlson said on Instagram.
The Food Network star was hospitalized in September after impaling his hand several times during an accident at his in-home bowling alley. Shortly after, there was fear that he would never bake again, as the damaged hand was his dominant hand.
"I have a thing with my hands. If I get a paper cut on my hand, I'm p***** off. My hands to me are my lifeline of everything I do," he told People magazine on Sept. 30. "And I wonder, 'Am I ever going to do what I used to be able to do?'"
Due to the accident, which caused nerve, tendon and muscle damage, Buddy has had multiple surgeries on his right hand.
