Cardi B's bodyguards take down fan outside Met Gala afterparty
The New York Police Department is investigating the details of exactly what went down between Cardi B's bodyguards and a pushy fan following the Met Gala. Around 2 a.m., TMZ captured footage of the "Bodak Yellow" rapper's protection detail rushing a guy outside of the Mark Hotel, where she had been after-partying with her fiancé, Offset. The persistant man continued to bug Cardi for an autograph though she turned him down, which prompted three members of her security team to attack him. According to the alleged assault victim, Giovanni Arnold, who spoke to The Blast after the incident, it was Offset who ordered the guards to go after him. Offset apparently didn't like the way he approached his pregnant girlfriend. By 2:30 a.m., paramedics arrived at the scene and took Giovanni to New York Presbyterian Hospital to be checked out for neck and back pain. Cops say that there were no obvious signs of trauma, but that they would be looking into the case further to explore misdemeanor assault.
Katy Perry almost missed the Met Gala over car trouble
It was a shame that Katy Perry couldn't use the ginormous angel wings on her Versace ensemble to fly over to the Met Gala because she almost didn't make it to the ball over car trouble. According to TMZ, the "Roar" singer's ride had engine trouble about a block away from the venue. Eyewitnesses on the street claim that the 1930s style car had been running just fine until that point, but started to act up when the driver tried to start it again en route to the gala. He apparently looked quite panicked when the white classic wouldn't turn on, but kept going at it three or four times until it finally revved up. Eventually, Katy made her fashionably-late grand entrance sitting atop the backseat of the convertible.
Pregnant Chrissy Teigen pokes fun at the Met Gala from her couch
Chrissy Teigen was clearly a bit envious of all the red-carpet glory going down at the Met Gala as she had to sit this one out. The pregnant model, expecting her second child with husband John Legend, poked fun at the fashion event from the comfort of her own couch. Chrissy first shared a picture of herself on Instagram kicked back with her feet up watching Bravo television and wrote, "waiting for my turn on the carpet at #metgala!!!! always an honor!!!" She followed up her post with a series of selfies, showcasing her messy bun and makeup-free face. "This year's #metgalaGLAM was #SUPER important to me as I wanted it to really embody the heavenly bodies theme!!! I think we nailed it!! Swipe for for #creds," she joked before going off on a comedic hair tutorial. "First I shampooed my #hair yesterday with #shampoo then I let it sit for 4 minutes while i #shaved the areas I could see on my #body. Next, I used a #towel to dry my hair from roots to ends!! Then, I used a #rubberband to secure my hair into a pony that i was careful not to pull out all the way! Lastly, I pulled out pieces around my #ears and #neck! Full tutorial coming up tomorrow !!!!!!!! Like and subscribe!!!!!" At the end of Chrissy's hashtag-full Met Gala parody, she finally confessed to her FOMO (fear of missing out), "I was gonna do a makeup breakdown but I'm honestly just very jealous I'm not there. Also I need to drink water." Chrissy and John are awaiting the birth of their baby boy, expected in June, and already have adorable daughter Luna, 2.
Vin Diesel is getting an honorary degree
Vin Diesel could probably school all of us on the art of making a blockbuster action movie, but he's about to get recognition for a different type of education. He's set to receive an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from Hunter College in New York. "The Fast and Furious" star will get his degree on May 30 at Radio City Music Hall, where he's scheduled to speak in front of 1,800 graduating students at their spring commencement. Vin actually attended the college as an English major in the 1980s, but left after three years to pursue a career in Hollywood. It's time we start getting used to referring to the actor as Dr. Diesel.
2 Chainz surprises Kesha Ward with Met Gala proposal
2 Chainz really knows how to steal the show! The "It's a Vibe" rapper managed to get all eyes on him when he dropped down on one knee to propose to his longtime girlfriend, Kesha Ward, smack dab in the middle of the Met Gala red carpet. Moments after the romantic gesture, a shocked Kesha proudly showed off her new diamond to onlooking photographers. She and 2 Chainz, whose legal name is Tauheed Epps, have been together for quite some time and already have three children together: Heaven, Harmony and Halo. As it turns out, he actually proposed to her back in 2013. "He always refers to her as his wife, but they have never actually tied the knot," a rep for the artist told Page Six. Maybe the second time with the magic of the Met will be the charm.
Kanye West sighted taking a mountainside stroll in Wyoming
The last few weeks have been pretty chaotic for Kanye West, who took a lot of heat for a bevy of controversial comments he made during a recent interview. He's since escaped the drama in Wyoming, where TMZ obtained a photograph of the artist on a mountainside stroll on May 3. In the photo on their site, he's pictured casually chatting with a friend while walking on a remote road near Jackson Hole, being tailed by security in a black SUV a couple of yards behind. "Take a walk outside. Fresh air is healing," Kanye tweeted the very next day. While it appears that he took time away to become one with nature, his wife, Kim Kardashian, claims that he left to work on his music. "Love you babe wish you were here with meeeeee but you're only finishing up 5 albums," she tweeted in his absence from the Met Gala. Either way, we're glad that Ye is taking time away to clear his head.
Assistant claims she has lost footage of Kanye West's mom
Kanye West tragically lost his mother, Dr. Donda West, at 58 years old to complications during a cosmetic surgery on Nov. 10, 2007. According to The Blast, a source close to her former assistant, Nubia Stephens, claims she an unseen video of Donda making a speech at Spelman College in Atlanta on Nov. 2, just days before her passing. The footage shows a one-hour talk from Donda at the Single Parent Student Summit, including her experience raising Kanye after her divorce from his father when he was just 18-months-old. She also discusses her unconditional love for her son. Nubia, who allegedly did CPR on Donda before she died, worked closely with the former chairwoman of Chicago State University's Department of English. The source says she wants Kanye to see the tape for closure.
Scarlett Johansson supports Marchesa amid Harvey Weinstein accusations
At first glance, it may have appeared that Scarlett Johansson simply missed the style memo for the Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination Met Gala. But in fact, she had a way larger statement to make with her intentionally not-on-theme gown, designed by Georgina Chapman of Marchesa. The fashion label has been pretty off the radar since Georgina's public divorce from film executive Harvey Weinsten last year, following the slew of sexual misconduct allegations brought against him. Scarlett is obviously taking a stand in support of Georgina, who even canceled the brand's February show at New York Fashion Week amid the scandal. Meanwhile, The Blast reports that Harvey, who has two children with his ex-wife, India and Dashell, is trying to get a hold of his personal emails, phone messages, and files from The Weinstein Company to strengthen his defense in court. His criminal defense team claims there is proof of his innocence in those materials that are necessary for his case, such as an email from one woman asking to attend an event with Harvey a few days after she is allegedly claiming that he raped her. Good luck with that, Harvey.
Letitia Wright's Met Gala dress inspired by Ethiopian pastors
In keeping with the Met Gala theme, Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination, Letitia Wright chose a very special look that fused her conservative style and spiritual views with a dress inspired by Ethiopian pastors. "Letitia is a very religious person, so we wanted to stay true to who she is while also having fun with fashion," her stylist, Ade Samuel, told Page Six on May 8. "She decided she wanted to do an Ethiopian interpretation of Christianity." The "Black Panther" star went all out with an African theme, choosing gold fabric and embroidery details that mirrored clothing worn by ministers in the region. The intricate custom-made Coach number took six months to make. "We had a team of five girls hand-beading and hand-stitching every bit of it," Ade explained of the hard work that went into the look. Letitia was accompanied to the big event by "Star Wars" actor John Boyega, who her stylist insists is just a friend.
Tom Holland swoons over Zendaya on social media
"Spider-Man: Homecoming" co-stars, Zendaya and Tom Holland, have tried to keep their relationship under wraps ever since Us Weekly outed them as a couple in June of 2017. But, the alleged lovebirds are finally giving us more to go on! On May 7, Tom took to Instagram to swoon over a picture of Zendaya from the Met Gala. "All hail the queen," he captioned the photograph. "Killing it mate." Zendaya, who looked fierce in a knight-inspired spiked silver Versace gown, has said that they're just friends, but sources at Us Weekly claim that Tom has already met her parents. "They love him," the insider revealed in December of 2017. "They are still seeing each other. It's been about a year." Aww, so cute!
