The pandemic has spawned a seemingly endless stream of TV reunion specials, from the "Parks and Recreation" reunion that also served as a charity fundraiser in April to the recently announced "30 Rock" reunion, set to air July 16.
According to The Mirror, a major reunion could be on the horizon in music, too. A source tells the British tab Beyonce, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams have had "tentative talks" about reforming Destiny's Child for a tour once live music events are able to proceed safely.
"There [have] been tentative talks between all three. They've always said they would get back together one day when the time is right and there is no time like the present," says the insider. "Nothing has been signed off yet, but as soon as a vaccine is ready and the pandemic is over, watch out for an announcement. It would really lift fans' spirits."
The girl group, which formed in Houston in 1990 as Girl's Tyme before undergoing a lineup makeover, found its first major success on the charts with 1999's "Writing's On the Wall," featuring the No. 1 single, "Say My Name." The band split in 2006, but Beyonce remains friendly with Rowland and Williams, both of whom joined her for part of her 2013 Super Bowl Halftime performance and again in 2018 at Coachella.
The next reunion could be tacked onto a major Beyonce performance or tour, as was the case in 2013 and 2018, though it's unclear if Bey's stirring new single, "Black Parade," released Friday in honor of Juneteenth, is part of a larger recording project.
Beyonce's dad Matthew Knowles, who managed the group when it was active and still handles some of its business deals, has said he hoped to coordinate a reunion tour of some kind, according to the Mirror.
Speaking to Hollywood Life in February (before the scope of the pandemic became clear), Knowles said he had "a number of Destiny's Child projects" in the works for "the next two to three years," though he didn't specify more details.
Rowland has hinted she'd like to see another reunion happen, too.
"I will say, we have made incredible music in the past, and I don't know [if the group will return]," she told ET last August.
"Can we, like, have surprises in this day and age?" she continued. "I mean, I'm just saying. I just find it so interesting, everybody wants to know in advance. I know every time there is a decision to be made for myself and the ladies to do something, it's usually a surprise. And our fans have always been so supportive and so awesome, like, I like to give them surprises."
