Eminem is issuing a mea culpa to Rihanna.
On Slim Shady's surprise new album, which dropped on Dec. 18, the rapper talks about a 10-year-old track that leaked last year in which he said he "sided" with Chris Brown, a clear reference to Chris' assault Rihanna in 2009, whom he was dating at the time.
Em's song, written in 2009, was never officially released and wasn't meant to ever see the light of day. However, last year it was leaked online.
On his new song "Zeus" he apologizes.
"But, me, long as I re-promise to be honest / And wholeheartedly, apologies, Rihanna," he raps. "For that song that leaked, I'm sorry, Ri / It wasn't meant to cause you grief. Regardless, it was wrong of me."
Eminem and Rihanna actually teamed up several times after the leaked track was initially written, but before its existence was publicly known. The two collaborated the hit song "Love the Way You Lie" in 2010, "Numb" in 2012 and "The Monster" in 2013. They also went on to tour together in 2014, and they've performed together at several award shows, including the Grammys.
RiRi was hardly the only person on Em's mind in "Zeus," which appears on the new album "Music to Be Murdered By—Side B." In the song, Eminem also fired at Snoop Dogg after the "Dogfather" left him off his top 10 rappers list. Over the summer, Snoop also said that Eminem's success only came because of his tight connection with Dr. Dre.
"And as far as squashin' beef, I'm used to people knockin' me. But, just not in my camp. I'm diplomatic, 'cause I'm tryna be. Last thing I need is Snoop doggin' me," Em raps. "Man, dog, you was like a damn God to me. Man, not really. I had dog backwards."
