Maria Menounos fights a brain tumor and more ICYMI news for July 2017

E! News host Maria Menounos revealed on July 3 that she's been diagnosed with a brain tumor. The "Dancing With the Stars" alum confessed the news to People magazine amid her mother's battle with stage 4 brain cancer. Maria's tumor, which was removed in June, was not cancerous. "[My doctor told me] there's a six to seven percent chance that we'll see [the tumor] come back, but I'll take those odds any day," she said. Her fiance, Keven Undergaro, has been helping her through everything. "I don't have my balance fully yet but as long as I'm holding on to Keven, I'm sturdy and fine," she told the mag. "My face is still numb. This is something that takes at least a month of healing, but I'm getting stronger and stronger every day and I'll be back to normal very soon." She also confirmed that she had stepped down from her position at E! and indicated that she and Keven want to start a family. In late July, she even called her tumor "a gift," telling NBC's Megyn Kelly, "I think that this was a gift, because I needed to change my life. I needed to change the way I did everything."

Married!

Stevie Wonder has tied the knot for the third time. On July 19, People magazine confirmed reports that the singer and Tomeeka Robyn Bracy said "I do" over the weekend of July 15. The wedding guest list was impressive (as if Stevie would have it any other way). John Legend, Usher, Pharrell Williams, Babyface and Al Green all reportedly attended and several of them even performed. "It was a beautiful wedding. The ceremony was lavish and very romantic," a source told People. "Family is very important to Stevie and all of his kids were involved in the wedding." A source told Radar Online that Stevie grabbed the mic and told his late mother that she would be proud of him because he "got it right" this time.

RIP

The music world was shocked when it lost another member to suicide, and it was eerily similar to the death of Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell. Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington died after he hung himself on July 20. He was 41. Multiple media outlets reported that Chester's body was discovered at his home in Palos Verdes Estates, California, on what would have been his close friend Chris' 53rd birthday. (Chris committed suicide by hanging in June.) Chester is survived by six children and his second wife. After Chester's death, Linkin Park canceled its tour and on July 22, the band set up a tribute site for Chester. Celebrities from all walks of life reacted to the news with shock and sadness. Rihanna said he was "the most impressive talent I've ever seen live!" Jimmy Kimmel said Chester was "one of the kindest men I've had on my show." Ryan Seacrest said it was "devastating." RIP, Chester.

New (old) romance

Ben Affleck has officially moved on from Jennifer Garner. In early July, it was confirmed that the actor is dating "Saturday Night Live" producer Lindsay Shookus. While some reports claimed the relationship is only about three months old, it's been widely alleged that their romance is hardly new. People magazine reported that Ben and Lindsay first got together years ago while still married to other people — and that their spouses found out (she's estranged from "Late Night With Seth Meyers" producer Kevin Miller). Ben and Lindsay "full-on had an affair. They would fly back and forth, but he would mostly visit her in New York," a source told the mag. "They didn't hide… They would use the Mandarin Oriental [hotel]. They were regulars." In the last month, they have been seen in together in New York, London and Los Angeles.

Restraining order

This one got ugly in a hurry. Blac Chyna sought a restraining order against her ex, Rob Kardashian, on July 10, and a Los Angeles judge awarded her one. Rob and his legal team didn't fight it. Upon leaving court, Chyna's lawyer declared, "We had a complete and total victory. The judge gave us everything we asked for, which is a set of very strong and enforceable restraining orders against Rob Kardashian." The legal order came a week after Rob posted several graphic naked pictures of Chyna on Instagram and Twitter (they were later taken down by both social networking sites). "Revenge porn is a form of domestic abuse, it is also a crime in California and 38 other states, and it is a civil wrong," said Chyna's attorney, Lisa Bloom. Famed attorney Robert Shapiro said Rob regretted posting the photos. Chyna has already moved on with a new man, rapper Mechie.

Baby bliss

It's about to be a party of five for Jessica Alba. On July 18, Jessica announced that she was expecting her third child with husband Cash Warren. Jessica used daughters Honor, 9, and Haven, 5, to help her reveal the news on Instagram. In a cute video, Honor held up an oversized black balloon in the shape of the number 1. Haven held up a balloon in the shape of a 2. Jessica cradled her bump while holding up a balloon in the shape of a 3. "Cash and I are officially going to be outnumbered," Jessica captioned the video. "#babyonboard #herewegoagain 👶#blessed🙏."

Hostage situation?

As far as odd stories go, this one could win a gold medal! R. Kelly is holding women against their will and running an abusive sex "cult," according to an investigative report by BuzzFeed News. On July 17, a story was published alleging that R. Kelly, no stranger to bizarre stories, is housing half a dozen young women in properties in Chicago and Atlanta as part of a sex cult. Several women, supposedly the singer's former inner circle, spoke to BuzzFeed about the strict rules the say are in place. The music star is, of course, denying the claims. "Mr. Robert Kelly is both alarmed and disturbed by the recent revelations attributed to him. Mr. Kelly unequivocally denies such accusations and will work diligently and forcibly to pursue his accusers and clear his name," his attorney said in a statement. One of his supposed hostages, Joycelyn Savage, spoke to TMZ after her dad said she was being held against her will. Although she wouldn't say where she was or if she was alone, she said she was not being held hostage and told her father to stop speaking about her. On July 23, another woman came forward, alleging to TMZ that the musician gave her money to buy lingerie, took nude photos of her and lured her to his homes on multiple occasions but that she finally refused to go back.

"Rock bottom" arrest

Shia LaBeouf began an apology tour after he was arrested in Savannah, Georgia, on July 8 for public intoxication, disorderly conduct and obstruction. Why the apology? He spewed homophobic and racist language at police during the arrest. As seen in video released on July 10 and 11, Shia verbally assaulted police officers, calling them every name under the sun. Bodycam video showed Shia yelling at an officer, using vulgarity and even getting racial. "I have rights! I'm an American. You got me in my hotel, arresting me in my hotel for doing what, sir?" he shouted. A video from inside the police car was also released. In it, Shia did more of the same, shouting at a white police officer for putting his "own kind" in jail. He also ranted about paying his taxes. Inside the police station (in yet another video), he told a black police officer that he was going "to hell" and said what he did was "savage" — because of the color of his skin. On July 12, Shia apologized and said he had hit "rock bottom."

Lawsuits

It was a bad month for Usher. Toward the end of July, it was reported that the singer paid a woman $1.1 million to settle a lawsuit after she claimed she contracted a sexually transmitted disease from him, according to legal documents seen by Radar Online. The papers claim Usher knew that he had herpes but still engaged in unprotected sex with the woman without telling her about his condition. Then, as news of that lawsuit made headlines, another lawsuit was filed by another woman for similar reasons. In that suit, the woman claims she had unprotected sex with Usher — who's been married to record exec Grace Miguel since 2015 — in April but didn't know that she was potentially being exposed to an STD. She's now seeking $10 million in damages for negligence, battery and emotional distress.

Canceled tour

Justin Bieber pulled the plug on the last 14 shows of his Purpose tour on July 24, and it did not sit well with a lot of his fans and crew. He gave little reason for the sudden cancelation, but many attributed it to simple exhaustion. However, on July 25, TMZ reported that Justin canceled the tour because of "religious enlightenment," claiming he "rededicated his life to Christ." He denied that religion had anything to do with the decision. A few hours after he made the cancelation official, a camera crew asked The Biebs if he had a message for the fans, many of whom are upset, Justin replied, "I love you guys. I think you guys are awesome. Sorry to anyone who feels disappointed or betrayed. That's not my heart or anything, and have a blessed day."

Inmate

July 12 marked a turning point for Abby Lee Miller — that was the day the "Dance Moms" star reported to the Federal Correctional Complex's Satellite Prison Camp in Victorville, California, to begin a 366-day sentence for fraud. Just two days before entering, she joked that the best part of going behind bars was "free rent." She also said that it was "surreal" to think about going to prison. She could be released in 10 months. Before her stint behind bars, Abby hired a prison consultant and told "The View" that she "probably won't survive" prison.

Social media mayhem

Maybe his feelings were hurt? Maybe not. First came Ed Sheeran's cameo on "Game of Thrones" on its July 16 season opener, in which he said nothing but did sing, naturally. The next day, as fans mocked him for the appearance, he deleted his Twitter account. The day after that, he was back on Twitter. Many in the media assumed that he deleted his account due to the "GoT" backlash. But on July 19, Ed clarified why he temporarily dropped out of the Twitter-verse. "I came off Twitter Coz I was always intending to come off Twitter, had nothing to do with what people said about my game of thrones cameo, because I am in game of thrones, why the hell would I worry what people thought about that," he said. "Timing was just a coincidence, but believe what you want."

Surprise pregnancy

Baby on board! It was reported on July 17 that Mindy Kaling is pregnant. A source told E! it was "an unexpected surprise." It's the first child for the actress. Little else is known about the somewhat surprising pregnancy, including the identity of the baby's dad and how far along Mindy is. On July 18, People magazine quoted a source who said, "She is not telling anyone, not even close friends, who the father is."

Sorry, China

Even if Justin Bieber says sorry to China, it is, indeed, too late. The singer has been banned from performing in the Asian country. Beijing's Culture Bureau posted a statement on July 21 explaining that the Biebs had "caused discontent among the public." The statement said he has "engaged in a series of bad behaviors," hence the banning. China said it is aiming to "purify" the performing arts and Justin doesn't meet its standards. Ouch!
