Taylor Swift had remained silent about her political views throughout the course of her career, but that changed this week, and everyone was talking about it. The pop star — who's registered to vote in Tennessee — took to Instagram on Oct. 7 to reveal she'll be voting for the Democrats in the upcoming election because "I always have and always will cast my vote based on which candidate will protect and fight for the human rights I believe we all deserve in this country." Her endorsement riled the right. Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee tweeted, "So @taylorswift13 has every right to be political but it won't impact election unless we allow 13 yr old girls to vote." President Donald Trump told reporters, "Let's say that I like Taylor's music about 25 percent less now, OK?" Others clearly weren't feeling the same way. In her post, Taylor urged her fans to register to vote on Vote.org. Well, after Taylor's post went up, the organization reported that nearly 65,000 people nationwide between the ages of 18 and 29 registered to vote. The site also reported that more than 40,000 people between the ages of 30 and 70+ registered during that time. To put that into context, Vote.org said 190,178 new voters registered nationwide in the entire month of September, while just 56,669 signed on in August.

Deported
"The Real Housewives of New Jersey" star Joe Giudice will be deported back to his native Italy after his prison sentence is up next year. On Oct. 10, a judge ruled that he can no longer stay in the United States following his federal fraud conviction (Joe was born in Italy and brought to the States as a baby; he never became an American citizen). The reality TV star is currently serving a 41-month prison sentence. Wife Teresa Giudice was not in court when the judge handed down the decision. Joe has until Nov. 10 to appeal. Multiple reports indicated that Joe begged the judge to let him stay in America for the sake of his four daughters, but the judge wasn't swayed.

Hospitalized
Selena Gomez is receiving mental health treatment after suffering an "emotional breakdown," TMZ reported on Oct. 10. TMZ said Selena was hospitalized twice in the last two weeks. The first hospitalization came in late September after she had an "alarmingly low white blood cell count" in the wake of her 2017 kidney transplant, TMZ explained. She was released after a few days. Then, during the first week of October, she was again hospitalized after another low blood cell count. During that hospital stay, TMZ reported, the pop star had "a meltdown" and "freaked out" and "tried ripping the IVs out of her arm." Several sources likened it to "an emotional breakdown." The singer is now in a psychiatric facility and is receiving dialectical behavior therapy, the report said. A source told People magazine that Selena has had a "tough" few weeks.

Another royal wedding
The second British royal wedding of the year took place on Oct. 12 when Princess Eugenie of York married Jack Brooksbank at St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle — which was also the site of Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan's nuptials in May. Along with all the usual suspects in the royal family — including the queen and the bride's divorced but friendly parents, Prince Andrew and Sarah, Duchess of York — several celebrities were in attendance: Demi Moore, Liv Tyler, Cara Delevingne, Ellie Goulding, Naomi Campbell, James Blunt, Stephen Fry, Robbie Williams (his daughter was a bridesmaid along with Princess Charlotte and other royal cousins) and more. Eugenie wore a wedding dress by Peter Pilotto and the Greville Emerald Kokoshnik Tiara.
New romance
Channing Tatum has a new woman in his life. The actor has been dating British singer Jessie J for a couple months, Us Weekly reported this week. He was even recently spotted at her concerts in Seattle and Salt Lake City. A second source told Us that "it's new, casual and they're having fun together." A source told E! News that Channing and Jessie have been "hanging out a lot lately and he's excited about seeing her. She's on the road, but he is very interested in getting to know her and doesn't mind tagging along." A source told People magazine the relationship is "very new." Channing and Jenna Dewan announced their separation in April after nearly nine years of marriage. Jenna, People reports, has been "on a few dates" since the separation.
Single again?
After Ben Affleck completed a 40-day rehab stint, he headed to Montana for an early-October getaway with 22-year-old Playboy model Shauna Sexton, whom he'd started dating in August. Just days after the vacation, though, reports emerged claiming the two had split. On Oct. 9, People magazine reported that Ben and Shauna were no longer seeing each other. "There was nothing to split from as it has been casual," a source said. "He enjoyed being with her but is working on himself, and being together with her at this time is not something that works. He will date in the future, but for now his focus is on his sobriety, family and his next project." On Oct. 10, however, Shauna denied a split, telling Daily Mail TV, "Don't believe everything you read on the Internet." She also said that reports were "inaccurate."
Assault accusation
Busy Philipps claims that James Franco is a "bully" who assaulted her on the set of their show "Freaks and Geeks" when they were teenagers. The actress detailed the alleged incident in her upcoming book, "This Will Only Hurt a Little." The whole thing started when they were supposed to film a scene in which Busy nudged him in the chest. She did, but rather than James acting out the rest of the scene, he got angry, she alleged. "He grabbed both my arms and screamed in my face, 'DON'T EVER TOUCH ME AGAIN!'" she wrote in the book, according to excerpts obtained by The Hollywood Reporter. "And he threw me to the ground. Flat on my back. Wind knocked out of me." She has said in the past that she and James didn't get along, and she's even spoke vaguely about the alleged assault before. She told Andy Cohen in 2016 that the two have spoken over the years and have since made amends.
Pregnant?
So, Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin are expecting a baby, right? On Oct. 8, TMZ reported that Dakota and Chris had a gender reveal party where they found out (via blue balloons released into the air) that they were going to have a boy. However, just minutes after the report came out, the actress' rep denied the pregnancy report. The rep said that the party — which was decorated with blue and pink balloons– was for Dakota's 29th birthday, which was actually on Oct. 4. The mysterious party was attended by Sean Penn, Julia Roberts and "Shameless" star Jeremy Allen White as well as Dakota's parents, Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson.
New dad
Hey, papi! Owen Wilson is a father for the third time. The actor welcomed his first daughter with a woman named Varunie Vongsvirates on Oct. 9. They named the newborn Lyla Aranya Wilson, both People magazine and Us Weekly reported. Lyla weighed 6 pounds, 13 ounces, and measured 21 inches long. In September, it was reported that Owen had taken a paternity test to confirm he's the father.
Court win
Disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein scored a big victory this week after a judge dismissed one of three sexual assault cases against him. The Associated Press said a detective allegedly told a witness in the case to stay mum about the accusation that Harvey had forced himself on then-actress Lucia Evans. The witness apparently had information that cast doubt on Lucia's claim — in other words, the witness had evidence to suggest that the sexual encounter between Harvey and Lucia was consensual. There are still five criminal charges against Harvey involving two other women.
