Good thing they didn't get married.
Amid news Naomi Campbell's billionaire ex, Vladislav Doronin, filed a multi-million dollar lawsuit against her, the New York Post reports Naomi actually originated the legal action between the two, having filed suit against Vladislav back in February.
TMZ reported earlier this month that the 57-year-old Russian real estate developer, whom Naomi dated between 2008 and 2013, is taking his ex to court on grounds she never repaid a loan he gave her. He also claims she still has about $3 million worth of his belongings.
Vladislav filed against Naomi, 50, in New York Supreme Court on Sept. 4 after the former couple was unable to resolve "a series of ongoing disputes," according to his lawyer. "Unfortunately, despite our client's best efforts that was not possible, and seeking resolution through the legal system is the only option remaining," the attorney told the Post.
While the action seems harsh, the Post reported Saturday that Naomi filed papers in London in February in an attempt to retrieve "some of her things … that are in his possession," according to a source.
"She's been asking for these things back for years, but they've had no recent conversation. And then he went and did this," said the insider.
Naomi's not mad at Vladislav, the source adds, claiming it's Vladislav who's harboring the ill will.
Though her rep had no comment, a friend of the two told the Post the legal back-and-forth "can't be just about the cash," given his billionaire status and her estimated $80 million net worth. "It's about the game. It's a power thing," the friend surmised.
Naomi met Vladislav back in 2008 at the Cannes Film Festival. Friends relayed to the Post that he was a "grounding" force, giving her life "a bit more balance, a bit more discipline," when he was in it.
That apparently didn't stop either of them from lavishing gifts on one another. She reportedly threw a three-day party in India for his 50th birthday in 2012 and even flew in Diana Ross via private jet so she could perform.
Vladislav, meanwhile, is said to have built Naomi "a multi-million dollar love nest in a Moscow forest" and given her a 25-bedroom house in Turkey shaped like the Egyptian Eye of Horus as a 41st birthday present.
If the homes were over-the-top, though, that may have been by design.
"Vlad did not want her to work," said another source. "And she knew that if she continued to work, it would come down to work or her personal life. And her personal life seems to have taken the toll."
Things between the two became increasingly rocky, and they eventually split after he was caught "passionately embracing" a Chinese model in Ibiza. The model, Luo Zilin, was someone Naomi had previously mentored, according to the Post.
Vlad currently lives in Miami with Russian model Kristina Romanova and their two daughters.
Naomi was recently linked to One Direction's Liam Payne, but a friend says her main focus is on work right now, particularly her YouTube show, "No Filter With Naomi."
