While scrolling through the entertainment headlines earlier this year, Ne-Yo's wife, Crystal Smith, discovered something interesting: unbeknownst to her, she was getting divorced.
During an appearance on Tamron Hall's talk show, Crystal said she knew she and the crooner were having issues, but she didn't know that their marriage was over until she read the tabloids and saw her husband confirm the news.
"We weren't really talking at that time. I chose to leave the relationship because of issues, and at the time I felt like it was to get back at me or to hurt me, or whatever the case may be," she said. "He said that it wasn't so I took his word for that. But it definitely didn't feel good, it was embarrassing to say the least."
Last February, Ne-Yo spoke rather publicly about their divorce on the "Private Talk With Alexis Texas" podcast. "We realize that our demons don't mesh and until both of us get a hold of our personal demons, it's gonna be just difficult for us to stay married," he said. "With that being said, that's that, that's the end of that chapter, not the end of the book. Like I said, that's the mother of my kids and I love her to death. We're going to be family forever."
Eventually, the two reconciled.
"I was really, really broken up about it, but I felt like I couldn't show that to the world," Ne-Yo told Tamron. "My pride wouldn't allow me to show that to her initially. But I think she kind of knew where I was at."
He added, "So I'm not about to waste what could potentially be maybe our last moments together not together. I'm not doing it. I'm going where my home is, I'm going where my heart is. And that was it."
