Looks like the super-short marriage between Paramore front-woman Hayley Williams and New Found Glory guitarist Chad Gilbert has been one of "Misery Business."
The duo took to Instagram on July 1 to announce their intentions to call it quits after just 16 months of marriage and nearly a decade as a couple.
"So much more goes into putting a statement together than anyone will ever see," the former couple said in their joint statement. "There's real life behind these black and white words. Sleepless nights and procrastination and sadness and fear… Unfortunately, it all ends up looking the same. Like some publicity crap."
"The two of us have been together for the better part of 10 years," they continued. "We've grown up together and we've been beside each other through a lot of goodness and a lot of challenges. There is a challenge of trying to understand your own heart in the context of a relationship… and there is goodness in considering another heart, even in spite of your own. Marriage is not for the faint of heart. Love is an absolute risk. And it's up to each of us to stay hopeful even when the outcome isn't what we'd originally hoped for."
"We want to publicly state — plainly, and only this time — that we are splitting up," they went on. "We also feel it's important to state that we are going to be okay and in fact, we remain close friends who are good in each other's eyes. That's something we are deeply thankful for. Even though situations like these can feel defeating. We will continue to encourage and support each other personally and professionally."
Added the longtime former couple, "Hopefully, you'll understand that the personal aspects of what we are going through are not for anyone else to carry. Only us. To allow people any further into this moment in our lives would be to dishonor our history together and our ability to move forward with integrity."
"Thank you to the fans of both of our bands for all the kindness you've shown to both of us for so many years," they concluded. "Thanks to our families and friends for loving us in all our seasons."
Neither Hayley nor Chad captioned their Instagram posts.
The got engaged in December 2014 and tied the knot in Franklin, Tennessee, on Feb. 20, 2016.
They hadn't been seen together much in recent years, though, aside from a joint appearance on the red carpet at the Alternative Press Music Awards in July 2014.
In April, the guitarist took to Instagram to praise his wife's band for their "Hard Times" single and its accompanying music video.
"Finally a new @paramore song & video is out and it's awesome," he captioned a screen grab of Hayley from the Paramore music video. "Congrats guys! Very proud of @yelyahwilliams for the hard work and creativity she put into this record. Can't wait for the entire album to come out. Watch Hard Times now on YouTube!"
If there's any silver lining to the split, Paramore and New Found Glory fans can probably look forward to two rocking breakup albums in coming years…
