Fashion hits and misses from the 2017 Teen Choice Awards

The Teen Choice Awards can always be counted on to deliver fun, trendy fashion, and this year was no different! Now that the 2017 surfboards have been handed out, it's time to judge the style! So who came out on top, and who needed a fashion citation? Well, let's start with Bella Thorne. As far as ensembles go, Bella's wasn't as bizarre as we were expecting… but that doesn't mean we liked it! The actress wore a JOVANI Signature duster coat — complete with a dramatic train — over a black and silver bralette and leather trousers for a funky look that landed among the misses. But it was her makeup that really left us scratching our heads! Keep reading for a closer look — and to see the rest of the best and worst dressed stars at the TCAs!

We don't even know where to start! Not only did Bella Thorne go with rainbow eyeshadow around her eyes, but she also covered a corner of her face in an orange shade splattered with glitter that extended into her hairline.

Stop the presses! Rita Ora landed on the hit list! The singer went with hot pink Alexandre Vauthier dress on the blue carpet, and we actually liked the fun color and the way she accessorized with pops of silver Tiffany jewelry. Nicely done, Rita!

Oh, Lili Reinhart! Your show might be a hit at the Teen Choice Awards, but this outfit is not! The "Riverdale" star wore this long-sleeved, full-length, completely sheer maroon lace gown with a black strapless bodysuit underneath it. The vampy look was a major miss in our book, from the costume-like, massive bow at the collar to the velvet heels. But one of the more puzzling elements? The beauty look that accompanied it! That's next!

Despite donning such a dramatic dress, from the neck up, Lili Reinhart barely looked like she was arriving on a red carpet. Though she rocked an all-over warm eyeshadow shade, the rest of her makeup was majorly minimal. And the middle part in her hair and super-simple updo made this approach even more confusing.

Peyton List looked lovely at the 2017 Teen Choice Awards. The actress opted for a red-hot look on the blue carpet, selecting this spaghetti strap tank tucked into coral red bottoms. She finished the look off with equally cheery red heels and accessorized with oversized hoops and messy waves to keep the look low-key.

Yikes, Cole Sprouse! What's with this look? From the waist down, things were alright, but we have no idea what's happening up top. Our best guess is that the "Riverdale" hunk is rocking two different printed, mismatched tops, but we're not quite sure why.

Showing the older kids a thing or two about style, Millie Bobby Brown nearly stole the show at the Teen Choice Awards. The "Stranger Things" actress donned a bright yellow Kenzo dress with a pair of colorblocked Pierre Hardy heels. She accessorized with a Judith Leiber bag and tiny Chrome Hearts sunglasses, bringing a little edge to the cheery ensemble.

Paris Jackson looked absolutely lovely at the Teen Choice Awards in a beautiful floral dress by Zimmermann. The star matched her heels perfectly to the long-sleeved frock and finished her look with an artfully messy updo and warm-toned makeup.

The comfiest star on the blue carpet? That has to be Zendaya! The superstar donned menswear to the big event, in the form of a breezy striped pantsuit by Ashish. Somehow, despite essentially opting for pajamas, she managed to elevate the outfit to high fashion. Next up, a better view of her beauty look!

Though she could have rolled right out of bed in that outfit, Zendaya's hair and makeup was on-point at the Teen Choice Awards. We loved the rosy hue selection for her eyes and lips and the loose, messy curls she rocked on the blue carpet.

Victoria Justice opted for summer white on the blue carpet, but her execution left us wanting more. The star's odd jumpsuit, complete with a cutout at the waist and a one-shouldered cape-like addition, made for a confusing look that fell flat.

We loved Lucy Hale's TCA look! The "Pretty Little Liars" star sported this unique red and gold Fausto Puglisi minidress, which featured intricate embroidery. Another interesting element? The daring cutouts on the sides. Let's check them out from another angle next…

Lucy Hale's minidress featured cutouts at the hips, which dipped dangerously low down the sides. She finished her edgy ensemble with a pair of metallic sandals and kept her short bob slicked back to show off her equally interesting makeup. That's up next!

Lucy Hale went with dramatic makeup on the red carpet, but it worked with her funky look. The star opted for all-around red eyeshadow, which she paired with a pretty pale pink lip and perfectly applied highlighter and rosy cheeks.

Canadian tuxedo alert! Despite being fans of the denim-on-denim look, we don't think Naya Rivera quite pulled it off at the Teen Choice Awards. The star wore an oversized, insanely poofy Marques Almeida blouse with baggy jeans by GRLFRND, which made for an unfortunate silhouette. Sorry, Naya! We did like the dressy touch of those white pumps though!

We're never huge fans of sneakers on the red carpet, but at least Louis Tomlinson stayed consistent. The former One Direction star committed to the athletic look at the Teen Choice Awards, rocking a T-shirt and tracksuit with the athletic shoe choice for a super-cool, casual getup.

Separates certainly had a moment on the Teen Choice Awards carpet! Niki Koss rocked a two-piece look comprised of an off-the-shoulder crop top and matching skirt in a summery yellow floral print, resulting in the perfect frock for the fun award ceremony. We also loved the "Famous in Love" star's perfectly messy updo. Well done!

Polka dots, flowers and lace? Oh, my! Not all the stars of "Famous in Love" fared well in the fashion department. Take Georgie Flores for example. The actress donned this bizarre-fitting frock by Alice McCall, which featured a halter neckline, a polka dot and floral-printed overlay, a super-short slip underneath and an asymmetrical hemline, which definitely landed her among the misses.

Perfectly edgy! Vanessa Hudgens rocked Reem Acra on the blue carpet, selecting this high-neck, iridescent blouse with three-quarter-length sleeves tucked into chic printed pants. We loved the funky jeweled belt that held the look together, and that she kept the attention on the couture by opting for simple black heels. Keep reading to check out her hair and makeup!

Just like her heels, Vanessa Hudgens's hair and makeup look made sure the focus stayed on the fashion. She kept her dark hair slicked back and opted for coordinating rosy shades of makeup to correspond to the glimmering hue of her blouse. A+!

Yawn! The Teen Choice Awards is a place to bring fun fashion, and Nikki Bella underwhelmed in this neutral, fitted gown with a thigh-high slit. We also weren't feeling the addition of the black choker, which looked too dark contrasted with the dress and similarly light, strappy heels.

This "Dance Moms" star brought her fashion A-game! We loved Chloe Lukasiak's dress, from the embroidered, wispy bodice to the layers of nude tulle. And opting for red high heels to pull out the accent color of the minidress's detailing was our favorite part of the fashionable look.

It's good to see Bebe Rexha is back to serving up fashion misses. The singer donned this odd black-and-white number comprised of a leather corset, separated sleeves and wide-legged pants. Though we weren't fans of the ensemble, we did like her beauty look!

Perrey Reeves kept things young and fun in a two piece look by Dhela — a pretty pale printed off-the-shoulder crop top and matching floor-length skirt. Though the choker pushed the boundaries with trendiness a bit, overall we loved the "Famous in Love" star's youthful look.

And the award for the most baffling look of the night? Well, that one goes to "Famous in Love" star Pepi Sonuga. The actress donned this… well… interesting getup on the blue carpet that appeared to be a butterfly forest in dress form. The one-shouldered minidress was just trying a little too hard for our taste, though we did like the emerald green heels she sported with it.

Madelaine Petsch went with white and silver, wearing this romper by Genny that was full of flare. We liked the silver detailing and the subtly sheer bodice as well as the fun frills happening on the long sleeves. The silver Stuart Weitzman stiletto sandals solidified this look as a hit!

We loved Lori Loughlin's minidress! The "Fuller House" star selected this pale dress with a long-sleeved floral lace overlay and added nude pumps, which made for a perfect summer award show ensemble.

We're not quite sure why Casper Smart attended the Teen Choice Awards, and we're even more confused as to why he opted to wear bright orange pants, a white dress shirt and sneakers on the blue carpet. Next!

We appreciated the fashion risk Maddie Ziegler took with this two-piece ensemble from the Zac Posen resort collection: a high-necked, long-sleeved, pretty printed crop top with matching trousers.

"Pretty Little Liar" star Janel Parrish rocked a white dress by Hamel to the big show. We were fans of Janel's pretty, long-sleeved white dress, which featured just the right amount of cutouts and went well with her long, loose waves.

Since he's been stirring up a lot of controversy lately, we expected former Disney star Jake Paul to be more exciting on the TCA blue carpet. Instead, he wore one of the most basic, boring looks of the night comprised of tired trends — acid wash ripped jeans, a white shirt and a bomber jacket.

Chandler Kinney looked darling in this black-and-white look at the Teen Choice Awards. The "Lethal Weapon" star opted for a below-the-knee thick-strapped dress with white detailing and a sliver of a cutout at the waist.

"Shadowhunters" star Katherine McNamara opted for a retro look. Though we appreciated the whimsical multicolored detailing on the Moschino dress, the headband, bow at the waist and odd choice of pale pink pointed-toe pumps lost us.

Pretty in pink! Camila Mendes wowed in a short-sleeved crop top and miniskirt with jeweled detailing. The "Riverdale" star also wore matching platform heels for a flirty, feminine look.

This is a casual show, but Adam Scott really took advantage of the low-key dress code. The actor wore an ill-fitting blazer, white T-shirt, baggy jeans and New Balance sneakers for a completely underwhelming award show ensemble.

We love unlikely color combinations, and Katherine Langford pulled off a surprising pair of hues on her minidress at the Teen Choice Awards. The "13 Reasons Why" star opted for this intricately detailed pale blue and gold halter dress, which she finished off with corresponding gold heels.

Alyson Stoner took a fashion risk that didn't quite pay off at the Teen Choice Awards! The star tried to execute the athleisure trend on the red carpet, selecting forest green track pants, but paired then with a dressier, cheery yellow floral long-sleeved top that also happened to be see-through, which all made for a strange, unfortunate combo.

Kendall Vertes brought a pretty pop of color to the blue carpet. The "Dance Moms" star selected a coral pantsuit paired with a white camisole underneath. And although we could do without the shiny, reflective silver heels, overall, we were fans of this look.

"The Bold Type" star Aisha Dee showed off a super-plunging neckline on the blue carpet. Her pretty, pale pink dress featured the daring bodice and a flowy floral-print skirt. We loved the summery feel the frock brought to the low-key award show, and the way she paired it with simple white sandals.
