Wonderwall.com is gearing up for the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards on Aug. 26 by taking a look back at the nominees' best recent fashion moments. Keep reading to see how Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Cardi B and more music stars have been slaying the style game of late, starting with our favorite former country singer… Taylor earned seven VMA nominations for "You Need to Calm Down" (video of the year, song of the year, best pop video, best video for good, best direction, best editing and best art direction) and three VMA nominations for "Me!" (best collaboration, best cinematography and best visual effects). Though she's had many fantastic fashion moments so far this year, her best look came early in 2019: The chart-topper stunned in a figure-flaunting black Versace off-the-shoulder number featuring a sheer skirt with a thigh-high slit during the 2019 Golden Globes in January. It wasn't just one of her best looks of the year — it was one of her best looks ever!
Like Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande racked up 10 MTV VMA nominations this year: artist of the year as well as video of the year, song of the year, best pop video, best direction and best cinematography for "Thank U, Next," best art direction and best editing for "7 Rings," best visual effects for "God Is a Woman" and best hip-hop video for 2 Chainz's "Rule the World," on which she's featured. While it might not feel like she's been off the radar recently, Ariana actually hasn't walked a single red carpet in 2019, and if you wanna pinpoint her best fashion moment of 2018, you have to stretch all the way back to May, when she topped many Met Gala best-dressed lists in a stunning strapless Vera Wang ballgown screen-printed with images from Michelangelo's iconic painting on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.

Cardi B scored MTV VMA nominations for artist of the year as well as best pop video for "Please Me" (her collaboration with Bruno Mars), best hip-hop video for "Money" and best dance video for DJ Snake's "Taki Taki," on which she's featured. During the 2019 Met Gala in May, the "Bodak Yellow" rapper had a major fashion moment in an over-the-top Thom Browne creation that's bound to go down in history as one of the annual event's all-time greatest looks.

Lady Gaga scored two MTV VMA nominations — song of the year and best collaboration –for "Shallow," her hit single with Bradley Cooper from their film "A Star Is Born." Of all the looks she wore during awards season 2019 (and there were many), our favorite is the elegant yet understated blush silk Calvin Klein by Appointment gown with an epic train that she donned during the 2019 Critics' Choice Awards in January. Divine!
John Legend, who earned an MTV VMA nomination for video for good for "Preach," looked sharp in a lilac suit, which he wore with a white button-down featuring colorful cheetahs and gray suede kicks, during a party for wife Chrissy Teigen's new Quay collection in August 2019.
Selena Gomez earned two MTV VMA nominations this year: best Latin video for "I Can't Get Enough" (her collaboration with J Balvin, Benny Blanco and Tainy) and best dance video for DJ Snake's "Taki Taki," on which she's featured. Long before the polka-dot trend blew up in the summer of 2019, the singer-actress sported the look in the form of an adorable long-sleeved Celine by Hedi Slimane dress during The Hollywood Reporter's Empowerment in Entertainment event in April 2019.
Camila Cabello earned four MTV VMA nominations for "Señorita," her track with Shawn Mendes: best collaboration, best art direction, best choreography and best cinematography. In June, she knocked one out of the park in a silk Johanna Ortiz set — a blue-and-copper leaf-print duster and matching wide-leg pants — during an outing in Cannes, France.
In addition to his MTV VMA nominations for "Señorita," Shawn Mendes scored a nomination for artist of the year. The "Stitches" singer can always be counted on to rock a fun, colorful suit on the red carpet, and he did just that in an exceptionally well-tailored deep-blue Paul Smith ensemble during the 2019 Grammys in February.
Alicia Keys, who scored an MTV VMA nomination for best R&B video for "Raise a Man," looked like an absolute goddess in a mint-green sequined Carolina Herrera creation with a hood during the 2019 Met Gala in May.
Lil Nas X made quite the splash this year, earning seven MTV VMA nominations for "Old Town Road (Remix)," his hit single with Billy Ray Cyrus — video of the year, song of the year, best collaboration, best hip-hop video, best direction, best editing and best art direction — as well as best new artist. The history-making rapper made a rare departure from his signature urban-cowboy aesthetic during a May 2019 visit to the Hits 97.3 station in Hollywood, Florida, and his matching multi-colored denim-on-denim look was actually his best yet! He wisely kept the rest of his ensemble simple, completing his getup with a white T-shirt and plain white kicks.
Halsey earned MTV VMA nominations for artist of the year as well as best video for good for "Nightmare" and best collaboration, best K-Pop video, best art direction and best choreography for BTS's "Boy with Luv," on which she's featured. The singer, who is known for her divisive sense of style, scored a rare fashion hit with a tuxedo-inspired Dsquared2 ensemble during the 2019 iHeartRadio Music Awards in March. The singer paired a white button-down with a peplum waist and a popped collar with cropped black trousers and a black bow tie.
The Jonas Brothers earned MTV VMA nominations for video of the year, song of the year and best pop video for "Sucker," plus artist of the year. Our favorite JoBro, Nick Jonas, looked anything but mellow in an eye-catching yellow Mitchell Evan jacket and matching shoes, which he wore with a plain white T-shirt and cuffed checkered Life After Denim trousers, during an outing in New York City in April 2019.
During the same outing, our other favorite Jonas Brother, Joe Jonas, sported a colorful Dsquared2 jacket over a red button-down and jeans.
Dua Lipa — who earned an MTV VMA for best dance video for "Electricity," her collaboration with Silk City — topped many best dressed lists in a strapless silver Versace gown with a sequined skirt and a train during the 2019 Grammys in February.
Donald Glover, who earned an MTV VMA nomination for best R&B video for "Feels Like Summer," has only walked one red carpet in 2019. The multi-hyphenate, who makes music under the name Childish Gambino, went big for the premiere of "The Lion King" in July 2019: He sported a cream-and-red checkered double-breasted Gucci suit and red Gucci shoes.
Bebe Rexha scored two MTV VMA nominations for best dance video: one for The Chainsmokers' "Call You Mine," on which she's featured, and one for "Say My Name," her collaboration with David Guetta and J Balvin. She donned a show-stopping Monsoori gown with a plunging neckline and a full skirt of layered tulle ruffles during the 2019 Grammys in February.
Drake earned MTV VMA nominations for song of the year for "In My Feelings," best hip-hop video for Travis Scott's "Sicko Mode," on which he's featured, and best Latin video for Bad Bunny's "Mia," on which he's also featured. He looked super-sharp sporting an award-worthy deep-burgundy Brioni suit while picking up his 12 trophies during the 2019 Billboard Music Awards in May.
Billie Eilish has officially arrived! She earned MTV VMA nominations for artist of the year, best new artist and push artist of the year, as well as video of the year, best pop video, best directing and best editing for "Bad Guy," best visual effects for "When the Party's Over" and best cinematography for "Hostage." In addition to her dark pop music, the singer-songwriter is also known for her unique sense of style. That was on full display during the 2019 ASCAP Pop Music Awards in May — during which she sported a custom khaki vest emblazoned with an image from "The Powerpuff Girls," which she wore with matching pants and a loose-fitting button-down. Billie completed her look with super-trendy Privé Revaux shades, white kicks and a Gucci messenger bag.
Sia, is that you?! The typically uber-mysterious LSD frontwoman — who earned MTV VMA nominations for best direction, best visual effects and best choreography for "No New Friends," her song with the new super-group — donned an adorable cold-shoulder ruffled LBD with a high collar during the 2019 The Daily Front Row Fashion LA Awards in March. She completed her look with equally darling red heeled sandals.
Khalid, who scored an MTV VMA nomination for best pop video for "Talk," sported a floral-print button-down with green pants and Dr. Martens boots for a super-fun and unexpected menswear moment during London's Capital FM Summertime Ball in June 2019.
Lizzo, who earned MTV VMA nominations for best new artist and push artist of the year, modeled her signature bold sense of style in a neon yellow belted button-down dress with the most delightfully extra statement sleeves during the 2019 GLAAD Media Awards in March.
Travis Scott, who earned an MTV VMA nomination for best hip-hop video for "Sicko Mode," proved that it's totally OK to wear brown with black in this James Vincent Milano ensemble — a brown suit with a black T-shirt and brown-and-black sneakers — during the premiere of "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" in July 2019.
Normani, who earned an MTV VMA nomination for best R&B video for "Waves," played with color (and won!) in a Rami Kadi confection with a plunging neckline and an asymmetrical hemline during Roc Nation's annual pre-Grammy brunch in February 2019.
FKA Twigs earned three MTV VMA nominations for her song "Cellophane" — best direction, best visual effects and best choreography. The singer-songwriter, who's known for her eclectic sense of style, had a major fashion moment during the Serpentine Gallery's annual summer party in London in June 2019. She sported a vintage Dior suit, a pearl statement choker to coordinate with the pearl buttons on her fabulous gold jacket and navy sandals to match the leaf pattern throughout the ensemble. She further elevated the look by carrying a handbag in the same fabric as her separates.
J Balvin earned MTV VMA nominations for best Latin video for "I Can't Get Enough" (his collaboration with Benny Blanco, Tainy and Selena Gomez), best dance video for "Say My Name," his song with David Guetta and Bebe Rexha, and best Latin video and best choreography for "Con altura," his track with Rosalia. The Colombian singer has never looked better than he did in a military-inspired all-black Dior ensemble during the 2019 Grammys in February.
Ella Mai, who scored an MTV VMA nomination for best R&B video for "Trip," donned a funky blazer-style Acler LBD with ruffled statement sleeves during the 2019 iHeartRadio Music Awards in March. She added a fun pop of color with her orange heeled sandals and completed her look with an envy-inducing diamond choker and matching earrings.
21 Savage earned two MTV VMA nominations — video of the year and best hip-hop video — for his song "A Lot." He gave us major jacket envy when he rocked a blush suede Saint Laurent creation with fringe along the sleeves sans shirt during the fashion house's Spring/Summer 2020 menswear presentation in Malibu in June 2019. He completed his look with white jeans and sneakers.
H.E.R. earned MTV VMA nominations for best new artist, push artist of the year and best R&B video for "Could've Been." The singer rarely wears dresses to industry events, which is why we were so delightfully surprised when she showed up to the amfAR gala during the 2019 Cannes Film Festival in May looking like a vision in white in a tulle floral-embroidered Giambattista Valli x H&M dress. She completed her look with a few fun, funky pops: a bow statement necklace, giant round reflective shades and print lace-up sandals.
Anderson .Paak earned MTV VMA nominations for best editing and best cinematography for "Tints" as well as best R&B video for "Make It Better." The singer had a major menswear moment in head-to-toe Gucci (that jacket!) during the 2019 Met Gala in May.
Rosalia earned MTV VMA nomination for best new artist as well as best Latin video and best choreography for "Con altura," her collaboration with J Balvin. The Spanish singer looked gorgeous while keeping things relatively simple in gingham separates — a boyfriend blazer and cropped trousers — during a press conference in Mexico City in April 2019. She completed her look with a simple black top and funky Versace shoes.
David Guetta — who earned an MTV VMA nomination for best dance video for "Say My Name," his collaboration with Bebe Rexha and J Balvin — had an excellent street style moment in jeans and a suede motorcycle jacket, which he wore with a plain white T-shirt and sneakers, while out and about in London in June 2019.
Clean Bandit singer-cellist Grace Chatto, who earned an MTV VMA nomination for best dance video for "Solo," had a princess moment in a strapless gray ballgown with an asymmetrical bodice and a thigh-high slit during the 2019 BRIT Awards in February.
Lauv, who scored an MTV VMA nomination for push artist of the year, chose a fun geometric Tommy Hilfiger sweater, which he wore with plain slacks and simple white kicks, for the 2019 iHeartRadio Music Awards in March.
Colombian singer-songwriter Karol G — who earned an MTV VMA nomination for best Latin video for "Secreto," her collaboration with her fiancé, Anuel AA — looked white-hot in a sparkly asymmetrical draped dress with a plunging neckline and a thigh-high slit during the 2019 Billboard Latin Music Awards in April.
The boys of Monsta X — who earned an MTV VMA nomination for best K-Pop video for "Who Do You Love?" — taught a master class in how to coordinate ensembles without matching during the 2019 Teen Choice Awards in August. They wore various combinations of black, white and light blue for a totally in-sync look.
