Fashion hits and misses for February 2020

It's time to take a look at what the stars wore in February! From awards show looks to Valentine's Day-inspired ensembles to street style, Wonderwall.com is rounding up the best and worst dressed stars of the month. First up is Brie Larson! The star opted for a polarizing pick at the NAACP Image Awards in Los Angeles on Feb. 22, and though we applaud her for taking risks, we can't get behind this bizarre Rodarte number. From the one-shouldered stark white start to the asymmetrical black-and-blue tulle gown to those embellished yet strangely sheer gloves, this is one couture look that needed to stay on the runway. Lizzo looked lovely at the NAACP Image Awards in Los Angeles on Feb. 22 rocking this colorful sleeveless Mary Katrantzou gown. The star's unique frock featured different geometric prints and shapes as well as numbers and her name! And we loved the way she brought out its purple hues via her bright eyeshadow.

Kendall Jenner has access to all kinds of killer fashion, so why she chose these disastrous lime green coordinates is a complete mystery. She sported the shiny neon Saks Potts top and trousers at a Brit Awards afterparty in London on Feb. 18, choosing clear heels by Amina Muaddi to finish off this funky fashion miss.

Harry Styles looked dapper at the Brit Awards in London on Feb. 18 when he arrived in this chocolate brown Gucci suit. He rocked it with a pale blue dress shirt with an oversized white collar, a lilac wool sweater and a string of pearls. But it was another accessory that made headlines…

When it came time to add shoes, Harry Styles opted for custom-made Mary Janes by Gucci.

Though we appreciated Lizzo's chocolate bar-inspired frock, the Moschino gown the singer wore to the Brit Awards in London on Feb. 18 landed among the misses this month. The brown design featured an asymmetrical neckline and a Hershey's-like graphic overtop. Even though we didn't love it, we have to admit that it made for a fun red carpet moment.

Sophie Skelton served up a pretty pastel moment at the "Outlander" season 5 premiere in Los Angeles on Feb. 13, donning this show-stopping Georges Hobeika gown. The frock featured shades of pale yellow, teal and lilac and included a V-neckline and romantic draping from the sleeves that fell over her shoulders like a cape.

Ellie Goulding attended the "Sky Up Next" event in London on Feb. 12 in this strange green-and-black tie-dyed getup. The all-over print spanned from the top of her turtleneck to the bottom of her wide-legged pants, amounting to an extremely over-the-top ensemble.

Gorgeous in gold! We adored the shimmering gold midi-length frock from Rochas that Karen Gillan wore to the Los Angeles premiere of "Call of the Wild" on Feb. 13. From the spaghetti straps to the embellishments to the subtly tiered skirt and the way she paired it with matching heels, this look was one of our favorites of the month!

Like most of Billie Eilish's red carpet looks, her getup at the Brit Awards in London on Feb. 18 raised eyebrows. The young star sported an all-Burberry getup — a camel-colored ensemble topped with a long coat and a pair of chunky sneakers accessorized with matching brown sunglasses.

Lucy Hale stepped out in New York City on Feb. 13 in this sweet long-sleeved minidress by Racil that featured multicolored polka dots and paired perfectly with that red coat on her shoulders. We also loved the way she brought a little more color to the mix with those pink hoop earrings and red pointy-toe pumps.

Paula Abdul served up a serious miss at the premiere of "Impractical Jokers: The Movie" in New York City on Feb. 18. The star arrived in a leopard print Baja East frock that featured too many sequins for our liking plus a sky-high slit up the front.

Though boots and a slip dress seem like a risky move, model Joan Smalls pulled off this conflicting pairing perfectly at an event in Dusseldorf, Germany, on Feb. 13.

Another dress-and-boots ensemble we surprisingly loved? Shailene Woodley's Moncler look at the brand's Milan fashion show on Feb. 19. The star paired this long-sleeved minidress in an all-over floral print with funky white combat boots.

We know Justin Bieber likes to rock his own fashion brand, Drew, but we couldn't get behind this haphazard street style look he wore in Los Angeles on Feb. 17. The pop star stepped out in a bright red T-shirt with a teddy bear design paired with black shorts and some outlandish accessories — a bright yellow beanie and a pair of black loafer slippers.

Maisie Williams proved that LBDs don't have to be boring when she arrived at the "Sky Up Next" event in London on Feb. 12 in this unique Olivier Theyskens number. Her thin-strapped black frock featured a midi-length skirt with an uneven hemline that, when paired with those amazing open-toe heels, turned the look into an instant hit.

This busy Rhode frock landed Jaimie Alexander on the miss list. The star wore the red, blue, purple and orange dress to the "Impractical Jokers: The Movie" premiere in New York City on Feb. 18 and strangely decided to pair it with shiny gold heels.

Gemma Chan wowed in Max Mara at the designer's show in Milan on Feb. 20. We loved her crisp look comprised of a white blouse and matching trousers paired with a black jacket and pointy-toe pumps.

Who knew a pink dress could go so wrong? Anne-Marie sported this Florence Grellier design at the Brit Awards in London on Feb. 18, and we're not sure where to begin. The singer's minidress featured off-the-shoulder sleeves, random blue ties and a massive bow detail at the back that gave way to a train. Completing this messy look? Opera gloves, silver strappy heels and a dramatic diamond necklace.

Vanessa Hudgens rocked a sleek black jumpsuit by Cushnie — a stellar off-the-shoulder number — to the opening night of the musical "West Side Story" in New York City on Feb. 20 and smartly added platform peep-toe pumps.

Another month, another funky ensemble from FKA Twigs. This time, the singer arrived at the Brit Awards in London on Feb. 18 in a bizarre getup from Ed Marler that included a high collar, puffy sleeves, an inexplicable lace train and cropped trousers that gave us pirate vibes.

Garcelle Beauvais attended the "Emma" premiere in Los Angeles on Feb. 18 in this impossibly cool all-black ensemble — an embellished black beret, a long-sleeved leather midi-length dress and funky black heels.

We wish it was spring too, Busy Philipps! Unfortunately, it's still winter so this floral minidress by Olivia Rubin topped with a pink coat and tan thigh-high boots felt very out of season in New York City on Feb. 19.

It wasn't just the ladies embracing pink and red this month! Liam Payne sported this sharp ensemble at the Laureus World Sports Awards in Berlin on Feb. 17. We loved his bright red suit paired with a white tee and clunky black boots — a ridiculously cool look.

Next up is this polarizing pick from Taylor Swift. The star arrived at the NME Awards in London on Feb. 12 in a divisive Monse shorts suit comprised of a black-and-white pinstriped top with one solid off-the-shoulder white sleeve and matching shorts. She paired the funky getup with lace-up pointy-toe white Gianvito Rossi boots and added a white Jimmy Choo bag to match.

What's happening here, Sharon Stone? The actress arrived at the Hollywood for the Global Ocean Gala on Feb. 6 wearing this disastrous lime green striped pantsuit by Pertegaz, which she rocked with a black bralette underneath. The funky getup, which she paired with oversized hoop earrings and glasses, was an instant miss.

Margaret Qualley delivered one of our favorite looks of the month at the Independent Spirit Awards on Feb. 8. Her stunning white Chanel gown featured an ombre-like cascade of color from pale pink to blue down the skirt. And she smartly paired it with matching blue Roger Vivier shoes. From the pearl buttons to the sweet ruffles at the waist to the delicate beaded belt, the details are what truly elevated this pretty frock. Margaret Qualley's Chanel ensemble scored an A+, as did her pigtails and rosy lip.

Though we appreciate her dedication to her very unique style, we still couldn't get behind Billie Eilish's baggy white Chanel suit at this year's Academy Awards on Feb. 9.

Florence Pugh showed off the perfect Valentine's Day dress at the British Academy Film Awards Nominees Party in London on Feb. 1. The sweet red mini by Ulyana Sergeenko featured ruffles at the shoulders and along the sweetheart neckline and worked perfectly with those red heels with ribbon ties at the ankles.

From the wrinkles to the ill fit to the shapeless silhouette, Heidi Klum's aqua Stephane Rolland frock left a lot to be desired. Heidi wore this unfortunate ensemble to the amfAR Gala in New York City on Feb. 5.

Zazie Beetz opted for a Valentine's Day-ready ensemble at the Independent Spirit Awards on Feb. 8. The slinky white dress was covered in red hearts! We loved the column-style design with its strapless neckline and center slit, but it was the unique sleeve that stole our heart. Get a better look at it next…

The sleeve on Zazie Beetz's unique red-and-white confection was essentially a heart-studded angel wing. The element featured dramatic ruffling, helping make the sweet V-Day-themed design truly stand out on the red carpet.

Though we appreciated the fashion risk, we didn't love the Valentino design that Kristen Wiig wore to the Academy Awards on Feb. 9. The ruby red gown featured sheer fabric along the sides that gave way to a dramatic structured ruffle down to the floor.

Margot Robbie showed off her impeccable street style while leaving a taping of "The View" in New York City on Feb. 4. The actress wore a gorgeous dark brown Acne Studios coat with a white blouse and black leather trousers by Magda Butrym. Completing the look? A pair of stark white stilettos from Sarah Flint.

Yikes! Kelly Clarkson really embraced black latex at the Hollywood Beauty Awards in Los Angeles on Feb. 6. The long-sleeved frock fell below the star's knees where it met similarly latex-like boots — which all together felt too excessive.

Scarlett Johansson balanced over-the-top glam and couture fabulousness in her BAFTAs look on Feb. 2, donning this gorgeous Atelier Versace number on the red carpet. The star's flamingo pink confection featured a slinky silhouette, sleek cut-outs and just the right amount of sequins and feathers to set her apart on the big night.

Elisabeth Moss arrived at the Independent Spirit Awards in this messy menswear-inspired getup — an ill-fitting suit suit by CO with a white Theory blouse and a loose tie — which equated to a serious fashion misstep.

Not many people can pull off a monochromatic pink look, but Jessica Simpson embraced her inner Elle Woods and rocked this stunning getup in New York City on Feb. 4. The star stepped out in a bright pink PVC coat by Saks Potts worn atop an equally cheery pink blouse and wide-legged pants. Completing the look? Pointy-toe pink pumps, a pink bag and — you guessed it! — pink sunglasses.

We were expecting a lot from Timothee Chalamet in the fashion department on Academy Awards night on Feb. 9. We were sadly underwhelmed when he arrived in this navy Prada ensemble, which essentially looked like trousers and a bomber jacket. But there was one interesting element of his look — a brooch. For the Film Independent Spirit Awards on Feb. 8, Scarlett Johansson donned this darling contrasting black-and-white polka-dotted frock that reminded us a lot of Zoe Kravitz's Golden Globes look from January. The "Marriage Story" star's version featured bigger dots along the black top while the rest of the dress was white with tiny black dots. But Scarlett's Balmain dress had one feature that made it stand apart…

Upon closer inspection, it became clear that Scarlett Johansson's oversized polka dots were actually sequined, sparkly and studded. This unique twist made us fall for the black-and-white Balmain number, which she paired with pointy-toe black pumps.

Too much sparkle! Uma Thurman arrived at the Hollywood for the Global Ocean Gala in Los Angeles on Feb. 6 in a sequin-covered navy blue dress by Dolce & Gabbana. We thought we appreciated the nod to the ocean with that shade, but we're afraid it was ultimately just a little too shimmery for our taste.

Kaitlyn Dever wore another one of our favorite looks of the month to the BAFTAs on Feb. 2 — a pale pink, perfectly frilly Miu Miu confection. The strapless frock with a romantic tiered silhouette featured the perfect amount of ruffles and shimmer.

Where do we even begin? Alicia Keys stepped out in London on Feb. 6 is this very strange street style getup — a black crop top, jeans and boots topped with a plaid blazer and a neon green plush jacket.

Lana Condor rocked this sweet black-and-white polka dot Valentino minidress at the premiere of "To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You" in Los Angeles on Feb. 3. We loved the way it was styled, with that thick black Valentino belt, pointy-toe black heels from Christian Louboutin and a super-high ponytail.

Amber Heard went for an all-over print at the Independent Spirit Awards on Feb. 8, but unfortunately, her bold Fendi suit sans shirt was a miss. She turned it into a fashion disaster with her accessories…

When accessorizing her Fendi suit, Amber Heard opted for mismatched hoops and layer after layer of eclectic necklaces. It was an odd choice for the already busy separates, and the styling mistake turned the whole thing into a giant fashion miss.

When done well, we love a good cape. And Brie Larson's pink champagne Celine gown pulled off the dramatic element perfectly! The frock brought just the right amount of sparkle, and the low neckline and glamorous cape detail made it one of the standout gowns at the Academy Awards on Feb. 9.

Lulu Wang arrived at the BAFTAs in a surprising ensemble — a multilayered Simone Rocha dress-and-pants combo. Though we loved the pink floral print — and that sweet lace trim! — we couldn't get behind the two layers of skirts plus pants, or the casually gathered sleeves. (Though we did love the way she paired it with strappy white sandals!)

We adored the cute Chanel romper that Diane Kruger wore to the Charles Finch and Chanel Pre-Oscars Dinner at the Polo Lounge in Beverly Hills on Feb. 8. The plaid piece featured long sleeves and chic buttons and culminated in short shorts. When paired with pointy-toe pumps and that cute red clutch, it all combined into a stellar dinner ensemble.

Michelle Rodriguez's silver Rasario gown gave us some serious tinfoil vibes at the Global Ocean Gala in Los Angeles on Feb. 6. The frock featured spaghetti straps and off-the-shoulder long sleeves all in a sparkly silver fabric that we weren't wild about.

We loved the amount of pink we saw this month! Renee Zellweger donned this delightful baby pink Prada number at the BAFTAs on Feb. 2. The frock featured an off-the-shoulder neckline and the perfect balance between sweet and structured with its interesting sleeve shape and column-style gown.

This pink-and-black Givenchy Haute Couture gown that Gal Gadot wore to the Academy Awards on Feb. 9 landed her on the miss list. The dress started out with a high-necked, long sleeved bodice comprised of sheer black lace before transitioning into a baby pink silk organza skirt, but something about the contrast seemed amiss to us.

Emilia Clarke donned this dazzling Schiaparelli design at the BAFTAs on Feb. 2. The black frock featured sparkling navy blue embellishments that paired perfectly with her equally stunning earrings…

When it came time to add jewelry to her beautiful black gown, Emilia Clarke embraced shades of blue and added these stunning blue-stone Asprey drop earrings. She also added rings by the designer, which included diamonds and jewels in the same pretty blue shade as her earrings.

We weren't crazy about the shapeless pale pink minidress that Selena Gomez wore to the Hollywood Beauty Awards in Los Angeles on Feb. 6. The strapless frock featured bow details and oversized sleeves with a slit plus pockets, but despite those little touches, we still weren't feeling the Patou frock — though we did love her silver sandals!
