Fashion hits and misses from celebs born in May

Wonderwall.com is rounding up the best and worst fashion moments from stars celebrating birthdays in May, starting with Carey Mulligan! The May 28 birthday girl had a major fashion miss on her hands at the 2019 Met Gala. Though the theme was "Camp: Notes on Fashion," she arrived in this multicolored Prada gown. We loved the interesting contrast of the bubblegum pink, crimson and black shades, but the funky frock featured too many different fabrics and exaggerated shapes for our liking. We still think about this dreamy Giambattista Valli gown that Carey Mulligan wore to the Governors Awards in 2017. The stunning strapless burgundy frock featured a plunging neckline, a sweet peplum layer at the waist and a perfectly pleated floor-length skirt.

Jamie Lynn Sigler — who blows out candles every year on May 15 — rocked this unfortunate outfit to the Met Gala back in 2003. The funky frock featured an awful asymmetrical black lace-up effect across the white fabric and showed even more skin with a thigh-high slit.

Jamie Lynn Sigler hopped on the coordinates trend in August 2019 at the MTV VMAs, and we loved this look on the star. Her burgundy separates — a spaghetti-strap crop top with white piping paired with high-waisted, wide-legged pants — were by Staud.

Tina Fey, who celebrates her birthday every year on May 18, donned this busy ensemble to the Tony Awards in June 2019. The gold and glittery Thom Browne suit certainly stood out, but the multicolored striped details on the sleeves, combined with cropped pants and stark black heels, didn't work for us.

At the 2016 Academy Awards, Tina Fey stunned in an Atelier Versace number. The purple shade was perfect on the star, and the strapless and sleek fitted silhouette was a pleasant surprise.

This Giambattista Valli gown goes down in history as our least favorite Rosario Dawson look. The May 9 birthday girl rocked this frothy strapless pink-and-black look at the Met Gala in 2010, much to our dismay.

Maggie Q pulled off a major fashion moment at the 2019 People's Choice Awards in this stunning Sebastian Gunawan gown. The star's gorgeous frock featured a green-and-pink patterned bodice with a plunging neckline, a feathered peplum detail and a black skirt complete with two thigh-high slits up the front.

We're so used to Cate Blanchett wowing us in the style department that this misstep truly stunned us last year! The May 14 birthday girl donned a disastrous getup at an event in March 2019 — an all-Gucci ensemble comprised of a brown snakeskin blazer, a lime green blouse with a frilly collar and questionable green snakeskin trousers. To make matters worse? She finished things off with a pair of bright red heels.

Our favorite Cate Blanchett look of all time? It's a tough call, but we're going with her 2011 Academy Awards look. The stunning pale pink Givenchy gown featured structured sleeves, incredible beading in a matching shade plus pops of yellow and subtle pleating that all added up to a super-memorable red carpet moment.

May 5 marked Adele's birthday. Our least favorite red carpet look from the star dates back to the 2013 Grammy Awards. That year, she arrived in this tea-length floral-patterned Valentino frock that while sweet just didn't feel like the right dress for such an important occasion.

Who could forget the dreamy green Givenchy gown that Adele wore to the 2017 Grammys? The diva sported this long-sleeved frock with beaded sleeves, a checkered bodice and a chevron-patterned full-length skirt to music's biggest night that February.

We really weren't fans of the disastrous two-piece look — it looked like a romper from afar — that Megan Fox wore to the "Battle of Jangsari" movie press conference in South Korea in August 2019. The actress, who celebrated her birthday on May 16, opted for a corset-like top with an oversized bow and baggy trousers by Olivier Theyskens — a mismatched, funky ensemble that fell flat for us.

Our favorite look on Megan Fox dates back to her very first Golden Globes in 2009. That year, the star arrived in a fitted gold Ralph Lauren gown with spaghetti straps and intricate beading.

The blue velvet, the sheer skirt dripping with heart-shaped confetti, the matching mermaid hair… where do we even begin? Blac Chyna, whose birthday was on May 11, wore this funky getup at her figurine doll launch party in August 2017.

Blac Chyna's 2020 Grammys gown wowed us. The shimmering red confection featured long sleeves and sky-high double slits — it was one of her best fashion moves.

Fortunately, Ellie Kemper turned things around at the next Primetime Emmys! She wore this stunning strapless coral number to the award show in 2018 — a frilly J. Mendel frock made of textured chiffon that featured subtle tiers and a sweetheart neckline.

May 25 marks Octavia Spencer's birthday! The star typically rocks chic ensembles on red carpets, so much so that her worst isn't even that bad! But if we had to pick, we'd choose this Tadashi Shoji moment from the "Insurgent" premiere in 2015 — mainly due to the mixing of prints and that funky patterned skirt.
