Demi Lovato checks into rehab after drug overdose
Demi Lovato is currently undergoing treatment at a rehab facility after a drug overdose — TMZ reported she was freebasing oxycodone laced with fentanyl — sent her to the hospital in late July. The pop singer took a private plane to a treatment center outside California after being quietly released from Los Angeles' Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on Aug. 4. "I now need time to focus on my sobriety and road to recovery. The love you all have shown me will never be forgotten and I look forward to the day where I can say I came out of this on the other side," Demi wrote on Instagram before seeking help. Later in August, her drug supplier spoke to TMZ and claimed that "100 percent she knew what she was taking."

Aretha Franklin dies at 76
Aretha Franklin died on Aug. 16 at her home in Detroit at age 76 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. The singer was remembered by dozens of celebrity friends including Elton John, Smokey Robinson and President Barack Obama. A private funeral has been arranged for Aug. 31 following a two-day public viewing at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History in Detroit.

Steven Tyler sends Trump cease-and-desist letter over use of Aerosmith songs
Steven Tyler does not want to hear one more Aerosmith song played at a Trump rally. The rocker sent President Donald Trump a cease-and-desist letter through his lawyer, demanding that the president stop playing his band's music. Steven's attorney argued that playing an Aerosmith song in a public arena gives the false impression that Steven is endorsing Trump's presidency. Trump played the band's 1993 hit "Livin' on the Edge" at a campaign rally in West Virginia on Aug. 21.

The Eagles now have the best selling album of all time, beating Michael's Jackson's iconic album "Thriller." The 1976 album, "Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975," was certified 38-times platinum on Aug. 20, pushing the 33-times platinum "Thriller" to second place.

"LOVE my bandage it looks sick @jkcorden i'll be ok one day," the singer tweeted on Aug. 7 along with a photo of her injury. A few weeks later, the pop star earned her third No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart following the Aug. 17 release of "Sweetener."
Man chases Beyonce and JAY-Z backstage during concert with dancers in pursuit
A male fan got on stage during Beyonce and JAY-Z's "On the Run II" tour stop in Atlanta on Aug. 25 and chased after the music stars as they walked backstage — and the couple's dancers went after him. They and security eventually brought the man, who was reportedly intoxicated, down to the ground. The Carters were unharmed.
Aerosmith to headline Las Vegas residency
Aerosmith will be headlining a Las Vegas residency, "Deuces Are Wild," at the Park Theater at the Park MGM beginning on April 6, 2019, the band announced on Aug. 15. "We are going to bring hot, sexy rock 'n' roll to Vegas!!" Steven Tyler and Joe Perry said of the concerts, which are scheduled through July 9, 2019. "The residency allows us to take 50 years of performing experience and create a one-of-a-kind show with the best music, best production design, best sound, in a world-class state-of-the-art venue. These shows will be epic!"

Cher will be releasing a new album of ABBA covers entitled "Dancing Queen" on Sept. 28, Warner Bros. Records announced on Aug. 8. The music icon was inspired to make the album after starring in the movie-musical sequel "Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again."

Republican leaders blast Pearl Jam over burning White House poster
Republican leaders slammed Pearl Jam on Aug. 15 after the band shared a poster depicting the White House in flames and a bald eagle pecking at a skeleton they say is meant to depict President Donald Trump. The National Republican Senate Committee criticized the poster as "gory" and "encouraging violence" against Trump, similar to Kathy Griffin's fake decapitation photo.
