From some of the skimpiest dresses in red carpet history to Lady Gaga's meat dress, the MTV Video Music Awards can always be counted on to deliver fabulous and bizarre fashion moments. Now let's see which stars stood out at the 2018 MTV VMAs! First up, a matronly look we certainly didn't expect from Blake Lively! We hope this is a stunt for her upcoming mystery flick "A Simple Favor," because there's no other explanation for this bizarre Ralph & Russo ensemble. Is it a skirt? Is it pants? A suit jacket? Kylie Jenner looked like a billion dollars at the 2018 VMAs! The reality star-turned-makeup mogul arrived in this white suit-jacket dress featuring a bedazzled belt buckle and a pair of silver heeled sandals — a sleek, sophisticated look.

Why, Amber Rose? The star arrived on the red carpet in this bizarre latex devil costume and fishnets, obviously missing the memo that this was an award show and not a Halloween party.
Before Jennifer Lopez took home the Video Vanguard Award during the show, the superstar stunned in this metallic confection by Atelier Versace on the red carpet. The silver liquid chainmail gown featured one shoulder, a thigh-high slit and Swarovski crystal mesh accents, giving us serious Moonman vibes.
Our least favorite look of the night? That has to go to Camila Cabello's unfortunate navy and white ball gown. The strapless Oscar de la Renta confection gave us prom vibes in all the wrong ways, and that half-hearted slit in the massive full skirt felt like a weird accident.
Olivia Munn arrived looking like a shiny purple disco ball, and we're all for it! We loved her fun, festive frock, which went well with the pink carpet, and the way she matched her shoes to the exact same shade.
We adore Tiffany Haddish, but we can't co-sign this couture! The hilarious actress arrived in this sheer (ugh!) long-sleeved creation by Naeem Khan featuring circular designs in black and white atop the see-through fabric. The design strangely gave us wrapped-up mummy vibes (which oddly enough will not be the last time we say that tonight) and ended up being a miss. We did like the way she kept that circular theme going with those big hoops though!
No ponytail in sight! Ariana Grande attended the MTV VMAs in this baffling combination — an armor-like shiny minidress complete with stud detailing and super-shimmery silver over-the-knee boots — resulting in a questionable knight-meets-pop star look. We're really starting to wonder if we missed the memo on Halloween costumes…
Looking lovely, Cardi B! We adored the rapper and new mom's glamorous bright pink moment as well as the way she matched her shoes and the VMAs carpet! The dress had just the right amount of fun features — one long sleeve, one short, a plunging neckline, a slit and an asymmetrical hemline. Next up, take a look at the pop of color she brought with her earrings!
We like it like that, Cardi B! The rapper opted to bring another fun pop of color to her pink getup with those massive green earrings. Her beauty look was equally on-point: a dark lip with gorgeous winged eyeliner, all highlighted by her new short hairdo. Okurrr!
It's a bathing suit… with a skirt? Nicki Minaj didn't just wear a boring dress to the MTV VMAs. Nope, she arrived in this funky frock by Off-White, which was essentially a nude strappy one-piece with a sheer skirt over top.
There's no way he could treat us fashion lovers any better! We were already in love with Shawn Mendes, but this sharp red carpet look makes it official! We're obsessed with the fun color choice — navy and dark green — and the way he paired the tailored suit jacket and skinny trousers with black boots. Upon closer inspection, Shawn Mendes took one more fashion risk with this bold two-toned look — he rocked a printed shirt underneath! The music star subtly sported a black dress shirt with a tiny white print below his gorgeous blue and green jacket and also had a silver necklace dangling around his neck. Way to keep things stylish, Shawn!
Maybe Blac Chyna was competing with pal Amber Rose for strangest outfit selection? Though her choice didn't look like a Halloween costume, Chyna's pink beaded bra and miniskirt combo was just as bizarre… and an instant miss.
We still miss seeing One Direction on the red carpet, but Liam Payne's sultry look cheered us up a bit! The former boybander rocked a simple white dress shirt with black pants and boots for an easy yet sophisticated VMAs ensemble.
We might be desperately awaiting the demise of the sheer trend, but Rita Ora kept it alive and well on the pink carpet at the VMAs. The star sported this frock that was completely sheer absent some black curlicue designs that ran down her dress, resulting in a look that kept her in her usual place on these roundups — the miss list.
Karlie Kloss went with metallics to match the new bling on her finger! The recently engaged model donned this slinky silver and gold spaghetti-strap dress with a thigh-high slit, making a sparkly impression on the pink carpet.
We're not quite sure what's happening with Iggy Azalea's leather minidress. The rapper sported this odd selection featuring a bustier-style bodice and an architectural skirt with a geometrical pattern. While we could do without it, we do give her props for those amazing over-the-knee boots!
Millie Bobby Brown never disappoints! We adored her black Rosie Assoulin look from the frilly sleeves down to those baggy pants and those amazing black heels!
We love "Younger," so we hate consistently putting Nico Tortorella on the miss list, but he does this to himself! The star arrived in a disastrous ensemble once again — this time it was a fishnet tank top, tartan plaid pants (with white stripes!) and an oversized black trench coat covered with words and symbols. Yikes.
Perfect in Prada! Amandla Stenberg sported this cool combo — a floral, high-neck, long-sleeved blouse with a tan leather skirt. She elevated the look even further with those amazing matching tan heels.
Sabrina Carpenter arrived in this shiny white design, giving us major mummy Halloween costume vibes. We weren't fans of the wrapped-up look, which also included a thick neck detail and a thigh-high slit, so this one's landing among the misses.
Now that's a fashionable matching family! DJ Khaled, Asahd Khaled and Nicole Tuck all arrived in matching Versace ensembles! DJ Khaled rocked a printed jacket and Nicole sported a Barocco-printed pleated skirt with a black long-sleeved top but it was young Asahd who stole the show in his amazing Barocco-printed sweatshirt.
The bad fashion kept coming at the VMAs. Next up, Dascha Polanco, who wore this horrible sheer frock that used lace to obscure her unmentionables. More perplexing than why she picked this dress? Her makeup! Catch that next…
If her dress wasn't bad enough, Dascha Polanco took things up a notch with her bizarre makeup. The actress sported extreme silver winged eye makeup alongside otherwise normal cheek and lip shades.
We're a little surprised by this one! Bebe Rexha is on the hit list! Though the singer consistently wears out-there and often disastrous fashion, she toned her look down at the VMAs and scored a win! The star wore this sparkly silver number by Christian Siriano featuring one long sleeve and a high neck as well as a skirt with a slit for a more subdued and chic look on the pink carpet than what she usually wears.
Oh, Noah Cyrus. Miley Cyrus' little sis arrived in this gold two-piece number — a bralette and baggy pants. We're fans of both the color and the coordinates concept, but she lost us with those chunky white sneakers.
Oh hey, Shay! Shay Mitchell arrived at the VMAs in a sleek long-sleeved minidress and we loved it, from the fun orange color to the unique details including that blazer-like collar and plunging neckline. She finished it off with simple strappy sandals for a clean, cool pink carpet look.
Frankie Grande can always be counted on for a fashion miss! Ariana Grande's brother arrived in a pair of short black shorts, a simple white T-shirt and a colorful sequined bomber jacket. We did like his sparkly sneakers though!
Here's a familiar MTV face! Heidi Montag attended the VMAs in a sparkly silver minidress. Though it looked relatively simple from the front, wait until you see it from the back!

We're not sure where to start with Sofia Carson's bizarre ball gown. From the thick black straps to the white bodice with floral appliqués to the multicolored tulle skirt that actually started above her waist, to say we weren't fans of this look would be a massive understatement. Sorry, Sofia!
Nyle DeMarco always looks sharp! The former "America's Next Top Model" winner arrived in this simple, sophisticated getup — a blue shirt underneath a gray-blue printed suit jacket. He finished things off with black pants and black dress shoes, and we're giving him an A+!
Chantel Jeffries arrived rocking this shiny purple strapless minidress — and when we say mini, we mean mini! The super-short skirt had a bow embellishment that culminated in an extra-long sash, giving her dress the illusion of having a tail. Though we liked that rich color and the way she paired it with those amazing T-strap heels, we just weren't fans of that odd detail.
Olivia O'Brien got the memo to take some fashion risks at the VMAs! We loved her approach in this multicolored pink velvet pantsuit with a white bandeau top underneath. The purple hair added to the funky factor, and those white boots cemented this look as a major hit!
Winnie Harlow is another star who was determined to keep the sheer trend alive. Needless to say, we weren't fans of this unoriginal long-sleeved frock by Zuhair Murad with its geometric designs on top of the all-over see-through fabric.
We love King Princess' tunes, but this outfit? Not so much! The singer sported a denim jumpsuit — complete with long sleeves and belt and buckle details — with black sneakers and landed on the miss list.
