The 2020 Emmy Awards will take place on Sept. 20 and to celebrate, Wonderwall.com is going back in time to the Emmys red carpet 20 years ago. That night, newlyweds Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt arrived with their arms around each other two months after they tied the knot. Both kept things relatively simple, with Jen — who was up for outstanding supporting actress in a comedy series for her work on "Friends" — donning a simple strapless red Prada frock and Brad opting for an unbuttoned dress shirt under his suit. Matthew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker arrived at the 2000 Emmys in style. Matthew opted for a classic tux and bow tie combo while SJP donned a dreamy little Oscar de la Renta dress that paid homage to her "Sex and the City" character, Carrie Bradshaw. That year, Sarah was up for outstanding lead actress in a comedy series for her work on the HBO show, though she lost out to Patricia Heaton, who won for "Everybody Loves Raymond."

It was a Giorgio Armani night for Keri Russell, who arrived at the 2000 Emmys in this slinky silver number with a plunging neckline, plenty of sparkle and a romantic train detail.

She was up for outstanding lead actress in a comedy series that year for her work on "Will and Grace" but ultimately lost out to Patricia Heaton, who won for her "Everybody Loves Raymond" performance.
Rebecca Romijn — who at the time went by Rebecca Romijn-Stamos — opted for a slinky red dress while attending the Emmys with first husband John Stamos, who sported a classic black suit and tie.
Red was seriously trending that year on the red carpet, and Calista Flockhart followed suit. The "Ally McBeal" star arrived in this halter-style gown with plenty of ruffles in a pretty ruby red shade. She added silver sandals to complete her Emmys look.

"Friends" star Lisa Kudrow was up for outstanding supporting actress in a comedy series that year. She arrived with husband Michael Stern, who wore a black tux alongside her sparkly iridescent gown with sequin embellishments and spaghetti straps.
Another black dress! Megan Mullally, who took home the prize for outstanding supporting actress in a comedy series for her work on "Will and Grace" that night, wore a black frock by Donna Karan with semi-sheer sleeves and a plunging neckline.
It was a coordinated black set for Camryn Manheim, who sported a sleeveless dress with a matching shrug over top.
Julianna Margulies certainly arrived in style in this busy gown. From the plunging neckline to the all-over print down the skirt, this bronze and dark-hued design made a statement amongst a sea of black and red. The "ER" star lost out in her category — outstanding lead actress in a drama series — to Sela Ward for "Once and Again."
That's a whole lot of sequins! Cher was on hand at the 2000 Primetime Emmys wearing some shiny pants, a black top and a maroon duster coat embellished with plenty of sparkles.
Rob Lowe brought wife Sheryl Berkoff to the Emmys in 2000. The two arrived in coordinated black ensembles.

Midi-length dresses aren't common on the red carpet, so Christine Lahti's multicolored Herve Leger frock was a breath of fresh air. The star's thin-strapped dress featured teal, gold and green hues, and she paired it with tan pointy-toe heels.
Ellen DeGeneres posed with Jack Lemmon on the red carpet. Both stars were rocking black tuxes, and Jack's must have been lucky! He took home outstanding lead actor in a miniseries or movie award for his work in "Tuesdays with Morrie" that night.

Jane Leeves also opted for a halter-style gown — another big trend on the 2000 Emmys red carpet. The 'Frasier" actress's dress was a simple plum-hued design.
Big winner Michael J. Fox arrived in style in a tux and tie. The actor took home the outstanding lead actor in a comedy series award for his work on "Spin City." His date? Wife Tracy Pollan, who looked lovely in navy blue.
