Meet the 2018 Golden Globes nominees' significant others

The Golden Globe Awards red carpet on Jan. 7, 2018, will bring out all the nominees, many accompanied by their significant others, eager to support them on one of the biggest nights of the year. Some will bring loves we are more than familiar with, but for every Justin Timberlake (husband to nominee Jessica Biel) and Keith Urban (husband to nominee Nicole Kidman), there are just as many spouses, girlfriends and boyfriends we don't know very well. In anticipation of the kickoff of award season, Wonderwall.com is taking a look at the lesser known partners who may be at the Beverly Hills award show, like Jessica Chastain's new husband, Gian Luca Passi de Preposulo. The best actress nominee (for her performance in "Molly's Game") married her longtime love over the summer in his native Italy. Together since 2012, Gian Luca fulfills Jessica's rule of never dating actors, as he works in fashion for the brand Moncler.

Margot Robbie and Tom Ackerley

"I, Tonya" actress Margot Robbie, 27 — who's nominated for best actress in a musical or comedy for her work in the film — is married to British director Tom Ackerley, whom she met in 2013 on the set of "Suite Française." In 2016, before the two secretly wed in Australia, she opened up to Vogue about him. "We were friends for so long. I was always in love with him, but I thought, 'Oh, he would never love me back. Don't make it weird, Margot. Don't be stupid and tell him that you like him,'" she admitted. "And then it happened, and I was like, 'Of course we're together. This makes so much sense, the way nothing has ever made sense before.'"

Chrissy Metz and Josh Stancil

Chrissy Metz, who's nominated for best supporting actress in a television series, met her love, Josh Stancil, on the set of her hit show, "This Is Us." The cameraman — whom she first flirted with while filming the second episode back in 2016 — is a real sweetheart who even offered to leave their show so she wouldn't have to mix work and her personal life. Even cuter? She told Marie Claire that before last year's Golden Globes, he snuck a note in her clutch that read, "You're the most beautiful girl in the room. Good luck tonight, have a great time."

Claire Foy and Stephen Campbell Moore

Claire Foy, who's nominated for best actress for her work on Netflix's "The Crown," has been with actor Stephen Campbell Moore since 2011 (the two met filming "Season of the Witch"). It's been a big year for the couple — with Claire winning a Golden Globe and a SAG Award for her performance on "The Crown" in 2017 and her husband having three of his projects released this fall shortly after her underwent brain surgery to remove a tumor from his pituitary gland. "It's been eventful," he told The Telegraph. "Having a child [in 2015], and her career becoming stratospheric, there have been a lot of things going on at one time. But that's nothing to complain about, it's all good. If anyone moans about that kind of thing, you just think. 'Oh, shut up…'"

Daniel Day-Lewis and Rebecca Miller

Daniel Day-Lewis, who's nominated for best actor in a drama for his work in "Phantom Thread," will likely have his wife, Rebecca Miller (daughter of Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Arthur Miller) by his side. Rebecca, a filmmaker and novelist who has been married to Daniel since 1996, helped him immerse himself in his latest role as a couturier, acting as a fit model as he attempted to recreate a Balenciaga dress. "Rebecca was very patient," he explained to W Magazine.

James Franco and Isabel Pakzad

James Franco, 39, who's nominated in the best actor in a musical or comedy category for his performance in "The Disaster Artist," is dating USC student Isabel Pakzad, 24. Isabel graduated from Penn State but went back to school after a stint in TV publicity to study communications and journalism.

Gary Oldman and Gisele Schmidt

Gary Oldman, who's nominated in the best actor in a drama category for his performance in "Darkest Hour," married his fifth wife, art curator Gisele Schmidt, in August 2017. "You know, sometimes you have to go through the others," he told the New York Daily News (the marriage is Gisele's second). "Her ex, they were together 20 years and they have a 9-year-old son, he's a great guy. He was at our wedding. We're all very friendly. He even said, 'We should have been friends, I wasn't Mr. Right.' But they're great buddies."

Emma Stone and Dave McCary

Emma Stone has been dating "Saturday Night Live" segment director Dave McCary for a while now after reportedly meeting him when she hosted the show at the end of 2016. The best actress in a musical or comedy nominee for her work in "Battle of the Sexes" supported her beau when he made his directorial debut with the movie "Brigsby Bear" in July, but the two have yet to make a red carpet appearance together.

Sterling K. Brown and Ryan Michelle Bathe

Sterling K. Brown and his wife, actress Ryan Michelle Bathe, met in college at Stanford University and have been married since 2007. Sterling, who's nominated for best actor in a TV drama for his portrayal of Randall Pearson on "This Is Us," hasn't shared scenes on the NBC show with his wife, but she appeared on Season 1 as a concerned mother at the pool whose child becomes friends with young Randall.

Willem Dafoe and Giada Colagrande

Willem Dafoe, a best supporting actor nominee for "The Florida Project," has known his wife, Giada Colagrande, an Italian film director and actress, since 2004. "Getting married was very impulsive and romantic. We were having lunch and I said, 'Do you want to get married tomorrow?' I called up city hall and they said, 'If you get here in the next couple of hours, you can register and then you can get married tomorrow.' So we ran down there. We married the next day with just two witnesses, our best friends: my manager and her editor," he told The Guardian in 2009.

Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach

Writer-actress Greta Gerwig is nominated for penning the screenplay for "Lady Bird," and her partner, Noah Baumbach, is a writer-director whom she met when he cast her in his sixth film, "Greenberg," when he was 40 and she was 24. He was married at the time to Jennifer Jason Leigh, the mother of his son, Rohmer, and Greta became his muse. He and Jennifer soon split and as he and Greta made another movie together, "Frances Ha," they became a couple. "Greta's one of the funniest people I'd ever met, both as an actor and a person, and she also has this incredible vulnerability," Noah explained to The Globe and Mail.

Armie Hammer and Elizabeth Chambers

Married since 2010 and parents to Harper, 3, and Ford, almost 1, Armie Hammer and Elizabeth Chambers, a former actress-turned-bakery owner who's been a judge on shows like "Cupcake Wars" and "Sugar Showdown," maintain a close connection by prioritizing date nights. In November, Elizabeth explained that she and the best supporting actor nominee for "Call Me By Your Name" do a sushi date once a week. "I think it's really important. We realized really early on that that was the key to connecting," she told Us Weekly. "We have so many social things, so for a while we were calling those social things date nights and then you realize it's that one-on-one time you need."

Sam Rockwell and Leslie Bibb

Sam Rockwell, who's nominated for his supporting role in the film "Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri," has been dating actress Leslie Bibb, who rose to fame in 1999 with a starring role on the TV show "Popular," since 2007. "I am super cuckoo for him. I'm cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs for him. He's delicious," Leslie said on "Today" in 2014. She's appeared in three movies with him including "Iron Man 2."

Steve and Nancy Carell

Steve Carell, who's nominated for best actor in a musical or comedy for his performance in "Battle of the Sexes," has been married to his creative partner, Nancy, for 22 years. "She makes me laugh more than anybody," he told "Entertainment Tonight" in 2016 of Nancy, who was a cast member on "Saturday Night Live" in the '90s. Nominated in 2016 for a Globe for his performance in "The Big Short," he joked that he wanted to win so that he "might finally gain my wife's love and approval." The funnylady quipped, "Well you already won one [in 2006 for "The Office"], so that was good for 10 years, but it's worn off."

Anthony Anderson and Alvina Stewart

Anthony Anderson — who's nominated for best actor in a TV comedy for his work on "Black-ish" — went through a rough patch when wife Alvina Stewart, whom he's been with since they were teens, filed for divorce in September 2015. However, in January 2017, Alvina called off the divorce and reconciled with her husband of 22 years. They have two children, Kyra and Nathan.

Richard Jenkins and Sharon R. Friedrick

Richard Jenkins, who's nominated for his supporting role in "The Shape of Water," has been married to his wife, Sharon R. Friedrick — whom he met in college — since 1969. "We got together when we did summer stock together — the Adam and Eve ballet. I played the snake and she played Eve," he explained to "Rhode Island Monthly."

Christopher Plummer and Elaine Taylor

Christopher Plummer has been married to his third wife, British actress Elaine Taylor, for over 45 years and credits her with curbing his once-excessive partying. As the best supporting actor nominee for "All The Money in the World" explained to the Telegraph, "Elaine did say, 'If you don't quit this stupid over-drinking, I'm outta here.' And thank God. She did in a sense save my life."

Denzel and Pauletta Washington

A rarity in Hollywood, Denzel Washington has known his wife, Pauletta, since the '70s, meeting her when he was working on the 1977 TV film "Wilma" during the one day they overlapped in filming. "We met, but then we saw each other again at a party a year later. People who say they knew right away are lying! It's a marathon, not a sprint," the best actor in a drama nominee for "Roman J. Israel, Esq." told O Magazine of the mother of his four children.

Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson

Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson have been married for nearly 30 years, but the best actor in a drama nominee is still in awe of her. "I still can't believe my wife goes out with me," he admitted to People in 2015. "If we were in high school and I was just funny, I'd never have the courage to talk to her." Though Tom is an award season veteran, Rita also has plenty of impressive credits to her name: She acted in films including "Sleepless in Seattle" and "Now and Then," released three albums and produced "My Big Fat Greek Wedding."

Hugh Jackman and Deborra-lee Furness

Hugh Jackman loves to sing the praises of his wife of 21 years, Deborra-lee Furness, a fellow Australian who's also an actress and producer. Earlier this year, the best actor in a musical or comedy nominee for "The Greatest Showman" gushed about her. "I'm married to the greatest woman alive. She's amazing. We're best friends, and we share everything. She's smart," he said on Britain's "Lorraine."

Michelle Pfeiffer and David E. Kelley

Michelle Pfeiffer, who's nominated for best supporting actress for her performance in HBO's "The Wizard of Lies," met her husband, David E. Kelley — the famed producer of "Ally McBeal" and "Chicago Hope" — on a blind date (they went bowling) in 1993, two months before she adopted her first child. Less than two years later, they welcome a child together. "I got really lucky," she told CNN in 2012. "And 19 years later, I never take him for granted. I've never met a person who has more integrity than my husband. I respect that. There's his humor and intelligence too, and he's really cute, all those things — but if you don't respect your partner, you'll get sick of him."

William H. Macy and Felicity Huffman

William H. Macy, who's nominated for his work on "Shameless" in the best actor in a TV comedy category, has been married to actress Felicity Huffman, who's perhaps best known for her starring role on "Desperate Housewives," since 1997 (but they've been a couple since 1985!). "It's what we live for. It's the thing we love the most," Bill told Us Weekly of their shared passion for acting. "It's the core of our relationship. We love actors, we love storytelling, we talk about it constantly and it just never gets old."
