Leonardo DiCaprio, Katy Perry and more stars face backlash over private jets, yachts at climate change conference
Google and a handful of environment conscious A-listers are raising eyebrows for what Page Six describes as a three-day, $20 million "summer camp"-style conference focused on climate change in Italy this week. The skepticism comes courtesy of outlets questioning the appropriateness of flying in dozens of celebs on fuel-hungry private jets before they get cozy in the "mega yachts" the Post claims many conference-goers are staying on. "Everything is about global warming, that is the major topic this year," a source told the tab. Members of the Italian press are saying some 114 private jets will be used to transport guests, largely from Los Angeles, to Palermo. According to the Post, that adds up to 784,000 kilograms of CO2 being used on the flights. "Google Camp is meant to be a place where influential people get together to discuss how to make the world better," said the Post's source. "There will likely be discussions about online privacy, politics, human rights, and of course, the environment, which makes it highly ironic that this event requires 114 private jets to happen." Google is reportedly paying for accommodations for guests at the high-end Verdura Resort, which reportedly features two golf courses and where rooms start at $903 a night. Other famous guests are said to include Prince Harry, Harry Styles, Naomi Campbell and Bradley Cooper, according to the Daily Mail, which also reported the event featured a Coldplay performance at an ancient ruins site.

Jessica Simpson's 7-year-old daughter gets a 'Descendents'-inspired dye job
Jessica Simpson's no stranger to mom shaming, which might explain her silence on Instagram after a photo she posted that showed her 7-year-old daughter's new, color-tipped 'do garnered chastising in the comments section. "Inspired by The Descendants #901girl #MAXIDREW," Jessica captioned the shot. She was referring to Dove Cameron's purple hair in the movie, which Max's stylist apparently riffed on for her new look, adding streaks of purple to the ends of her blonde tresses. "Why start ruining her hair so young," one troll taunted (via Page Six). Another wrote, "so young it's a shame." As per usual, the negative posts were met with responses defending Jessica as well as more chiding comments. "She looks adorable and I'm laughing at all of you clutching your pearls because of hair dye," one user wrote. Riawna Capri, the celebrity stylist who colored Max's hair, weighed in, too. "She was a natural, in her natural habitat. I think we will be seeing her more than her momma," she posted. In a second comment, she added, "I saw this coming after our last color session she was loving it! Looks amazing!"
Kanye West is building 'dynamic' housing domes he hopes will help break down class barriers between rich and poor

That's according to TMZ, which reports the Yeezy designer has constructed prototypes of the domes he sees as the possible basis for housing communities he thinks could help destroy economic barriers that make housing so class-oriented. The domes are reportedly 50 feet high and sit in the hills of Calabasas, Calif., on a 300-acre span of property he owns there. Construction began at least a few weeks ago, according to TMZ, which adds that Kanye and his staff have been studying different human livings spaces "from every period of man's existence on earth." The domes are supposed to be "dynamic," the website notes without clarifying much in the way of detail beyond that.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus had to 'turn away' while watching the debates and thinking about 'Veep'
The running joke on "Veep" is basically that everyone involved in Washington, D.C., politics is a mess — or inept or in it for the wrong reasons. That made award-winning "Veep" star Julia Louis-Dreyfus a good fit for a guest spot on "Jimmy Kimmel Live," on Wednesday, July 31, the second night of this month's Democratic presidential debates. "I've learned a lot about politics, and I've got a sense of the true anxiety that probably a lot of these people feel, going in and trying sell themselves, as a candidate, as a brand, and make a stamp—as themselves but quickly," she mused at one point on the show, according to Jezebel. She also admitted she didn't get through the whole shebang without taking a breather. "As I was watching the debate tonight, it gave me a lot of anxiety, I had to kind of turn away," she said. Asked if her research has indicated that the vibe in D.C. is actually akin to what we see on her show, she smiled and told Jimmy in a feigned whisper, "It is." Good luck, America!
Sarah Silverman shares a hilarious (and not off-base) 'exclusively superficial' take on the debates
Like Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Sarah Silverman spent some time on Wednesday, July 31, watching the second Democratic debates between Cory Booker, Julián Castro, Kirsten Gillibrand, Michael Bennet, Andrew Yang, Bill de Blasio, Tulsi Gabbard, Jay Inslee, Kamala Harris and former Vice President Joe Biden. She had, shall we say, a less high-level summation than what Julia proffered on "Jimmy Kimmel Live," though. Here's how Sarah saw things go down, per her Twitter: "Exclusively Superficial," she began. "Bennett: has South Park mouth … Biden: your laser facial treatments are getting obvs u don't need them stop … Gillibrand: hair needs a soft curl … Yang: consider a tie. Just consider it … Castro: you're perfect. Don't let anyone touch your eyebrows. #DemDebate2." She later got more serious, tweeting that Kamala Harris' equal pay plan was "right on" and that she was "killing her closing."
A$AP Rocky testifies in Swedish assault trial, says he 'pleaded' with assailants not to fight
As fans, friends and colleagues of A$AP Rocky continue to campaign for his release from Swedish authorities, the rapper testified in court in Stockholm this week, maintaining his innocence in a street fight he says was instigated by strangers. According to the Daily Mail, the rapper, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, told the court on Thursday, Aug. 1, that Mustafa Jafari, 19, began following him and two friends when they were out sightseeing ahead of a hip-hop festival performance earlier this month. He said the man, along with 20-year-old Dawod Hosseini, harassed Mayers and his security guard repeatedly, then attacked him. He said he was "shocked and scared" by the behavior of the men, whom he assumed were on drugs at the time. "He [Jafari] was persistent, he kept coming after us, and kept going 'come on, come on,'" Mayers said, adding that he "pleaded" with the men not to fight. "We attempted to walk away and when we walked away we were followed. We begged them not to follow us. At this moment, both of the guys attacked [the security guard]. That's when I stepped in and threw him on the ground and kicked his arm. I punched him or shoved him." He said the move was in self-defense and added that he'd been attacked by drug addicts in the past, which left him scared. He also said the bottles the men claimed to have been hit with by Mayers and his security guard were not used as weapons but rather picked up briefly so the other men wouldn't be able to attack them with them. He also said he only failed to report the incident to police because he wanted to avoid bringing attention to it, given his celebrity status. After the fight, he said he went straight to his hotel. Jafari, meanwhile, testified through an interpreter that Mayers "smashed me over the head with a bottle, and then he ran away." Lawyers are expected to use videos of the fight as key to their evidence. Mayers has been in custody for weeks because he was deemed a "flight risk." When the trial ends, the court is expected to deliver a timeline for the verdict announcement and whether Mayers and his security guard will remain in custody. They face up to two years in prison.
