Nick Jonas teamed up with Malibu Rum to host the Malibu Games in Vietnam in early May 2018. The multi-hyphenate describes the experience, which is part of the brand's #BecauseSummer campaign, as "a weeklong adventure with influencers from all around the world participating in lots of fun games and competitions and celebrating summer." Malibu will unveil photos and videos from the games online over the course of the next few months. "I'd never been to Vietnam and loved being there, loved the people and all the incredible places that we shot this content — it was just a great time," Nick told Wonderwall.com on May 17. Keep reading to see what else he told us about his adventures in East Asia, reuniting with his brothers, getting a grip on his competitive nature, his surprising fitness fascination and more…
Nick Jonas on how he spent his time in Vietnam during the Malibu Games:
"I had my team with me and I'm very close with all them, so we found some time to check out the beach and just enjoy the beautiful weather and obviously had some fun. … I've been to the Philippines and to Bali and had the best time there. That was years ago. I went to Bali for a songwriting camp. They brought 12 songwriters there, and we stayed in the jungle and wrote songs for about a week. It was an incredible experience — very spiritual, as well. That part of the world, there's so much to explore. I hope to go back and do more exploring."

Nick Jonas on his role in the Malibu Games:
"They found really exciting roles for me to take in these games. During The Great Launch, I got to toss pineapples — foam pineapples so that no one got hurt — to the contestants, the influencers, as they were going down this great big slide into the water. I got to kind of flex my softball arm and had some fun with that. One of the other games, they gave me basically a super-charged Super Soaker during this water balloon fight just to blast people with water as they tried to throw water balloons at each other as a bit of a distraction. It was very fun for me."
Nick Jonas on his competitive nature:
"I'm pretty competitive. I used to be more competitive as a younger guy, and then I lost a lot of that when my brothers and I had a softball team on tour. We had a terrible team of musicians and people that worked on the tour. We were just not cut out for softball. There were a couple shining moments, but all in all, our season was about 2 and 14. So I learned how to lose. It was a great lesson because it's better to be someone people want to have fun with than someone who people get mad at when they win. So I try to be more chill about it now."
Nick Jonas on who's the most competitive between himself and his brothers:
"I'm probably still the most competitive. But I think that we've all learned how to enjoy just hanging out and being around each other. For instance, my oldest brother and I used to fight when we played golf together, but now because we see each other so rarely, we just enjoy being out there and having the time together — instead of kicking each other's golf balls to the side and saying they went in the sand when they really didn't."
Nick Jonas on the Jonas Brothers reunion rumors that kick off every time he's seen with his siblings:
"It's funny because we are actually brothers in real life. So it's not all a reunion. We just try to make the most of that time together and not feel that pressure. We love that people love that chapter of our lives, but this one that we're in now is pretty good too. So I think we take it all with a grain of salt and appreciate the love. But we're in a moment of new adventures."
Nick Jonas on his upcoming new music:
"I'm in a real season of creativity on all fronts. The acting side of things has been incredible in addition to the music with 'Jumanji' and then I just finished a film in the last year called 'Chaos Walking.' There's a lot on that side of things. It's kinda opened me up creatively to start writing — screenplays and a stage play as well and some other things. So it's that and then it's also the music. I'm just trying to stay creative and not feeling pressure to release something till I feel like it's ready — whether that's a single, a collaboration or a full album. The great part is that, in 2018, you really have that freedom to kind of do what you want and just stay creative and let it flow and make some moves as you go. … I think the best stuff that I've written or created has always come from when I'm more free and not feeling that pressure. I think that it's best just to try to push yourself but also enjoy the ride."
Nick Jonas on his role in the upcoming sci-fi film "Chaos Walking":
"'Chaos Walking' is a really interesting film and a really interesting story. At its core, it's really about identity and who we are and what defines us — how we overcome the carpet being ripped out from under us. Tom Holland's performance is phenomenal — Daisy Ridley's as well. My role is basically the son of Mads Mikkelsen's character — a general in his army. He's a bit entitled and a bit of a jerk at times, but he's also layered in the sense that there's more to him than we see at first and then it all sort of unravels. I had a great time making this movie and getting to work with Doug Liman, one of my favorite directors. I'm excited for people to see it. … I have some action scenes — some good fight scenes, actually, with Tom and some other people in the film. It was fun getting to work with the stunt team on that film. Doug Liman, obviously, is such a great director for that world, the action world, specifically. So it was fun to go down that path and continue to grow as an actor and have these new experiences."
Nick Jonas on why he didn't need to train for his "Chaos Walking" action scenes:
"I'd been doing a TV show for a few years called 'Kingdom' where I played a mixed marital arts fighter, so I've now had three or four years of fighting experience. It was actually really nice to walk on a set and have that experience already and speak the same language as the fight coordinators because I had been doing it for a little while already. The training was more just getting comfortable with the other actors and the scenes and making sure that everyone was feeling safe and making it exciting as well — which means really going for it."
Nick Jonas on his current fitness obsession:
"I'm really enjoying yoga at the moment. I've been focused on building muscle now for a couple years, but that can mean less flexibility. So I'm doing hot yoga. I have a place in New York that I love that's also out in L.A. called Modo Yoga. I go there and just sweat it out but also get good flexibility, which I think is so important for a healthy life."
