We love scrutinizing royal style, but no element is more fun to dissect than those hats! From grandiose headwear complete with massive embellishments to those tiny fascinators, we're rounding up the best headpieces worn by Duchess Kate and our new favorite royal, Duchess Meghan, in 2018! First up is the Duchess of Cambridge, who wowed in a bold pink Alexander McQueen dress at Princess Eugenie's wedding on Oct. 12. That meant she needed a hat just as outstanding, so she tapped Philip Treacy for the occasion, donning a netted headpiece in a matching magenta shade complete with floral embellishments. Duchess Meghan arrived at the Ascot Racecourse in June for her first Royal Ascot in a hat fit for, well, a duchess! The black-and-white "Wave" derby hat designed by Philip Treacy featuring a turkey feather and a patent-leather knot detail was her most British-looking accessory yet!

At the christening of Duchess Kate's youngest child, Prince Louis, the royal opted for a beautiful headpiece that was more headband than hat. The Jane Taylor creation featured silk flowers, pearl beading and ivory straw.

Duchess Kate donned a tastefully embellished Lock & Co. hat with her custom Alexander McQueen military-inspired dress at the National Service of Remembrance in London in November.

Duchess Meghan opted to dress in her favorite midnight blue hue for the 100th Anniversary of the Royal Air Force in July and accessorized with this stylish fascinator, complete with a swirling embellishment, by Stephen Jones.

Just days after becoming Duchess Meghan, the new royal formerly known as Meghan Markle attended her father-in-law the Prince of Wales's birthday garden party wearing this blush-hued hat by Philip Treacy, one of the royal family's go-to milliners.

Gorgeous! To top off her ensemble at the Anzac Day Dawn Service in April, Meghan Markle donned a chic wide-brimmed black felt hat.

So festive! For a St. Patrick's Day Parade in Hounslow, England, Duchess Kate wore the "Meribel" felt beret hat by Gina Foster, which featured a giant bow on top and perfectly matched the shade of her Catherine Walker coat.

When it came time to attend Princess Eugenie's nuptials on Oct. 12, Duchess Meghan opted for an all-blue ensemble by Givenchy. And since it was a royal wedding, she also needed the perfect hat! The newlywed topped things off with a matching navy bespoke hat by milliner Noel Stewart.

Birthday hat! Duchess Meghan donned a Philip Treacy black straw fascinator with curled embellishments for the wedding of Prince Harry's pals Daisy Jenks and Charlie van Straubenzee in Frensham, England, on Aug. 4 — which also happened to be the day she turned 37. She wore the hat again during the Anzac Memorial dedication in Sydney's Hyde Park on her royal tour Down Under in October.

While attending the royal wedding of brother-in-law Prince Harry and future sister-in-law Meghan Markle, Duchess Kate stuck with her favorite hat designer, Philip Treacy, and donned a headpiece featuring floral embellishments that perfectly matched the shade of her Alexander McQueen silk coatdress.

For the National Service to mark the Centenary of the Armistice at Westminster Abbey in London on Nov. 11, Duchess Kate stepped out in an eye-catching green ensemble. The mother of three donned a Catherine Walker emerald coat dress with a velvet collar and cuffs and finished off the look with a bold black velvet Jane Taylor headband in lieu of a hat.

Duchess Kate rocked a Lock & Co. hat at the Commonwealth Day Observance Service in March. The navy blue hat, which features a lipped drop-brim and wide band, is called the "Breakfast at Tiffany's" design thanks to its inspiration — a hat worn by Audrey Hepburn in the classic film.

Ahead of becoming a royal, Meghan Markle attended the Commonwealth Day observance service at Westminster Abbey in London in March wearing this smart, simple off-white beret by Stephen Jones.

Though we didn't see her actually rocking the hat that day, Duchess Meghan arrived at the Wimbledon tennis championships in July to cheer on good friend Serena Williams clutching an ivory straw fedora by Maison Michel.

Recognize this hat? Before taking it along to Wimbledon, Duchess Meghan wore her ivory Maison Michel brimmed hat with a casual dress at the Tusk Audi Challenge Polo match in June.

Duchess Kate has attended quite a few Trooping the Colour ceremonies at this point, and in June 2018, she once again wore a fabulous hat. This time she sported a new design by Juliette Botterill that complemented her pale minty-blue dress.

At Prince Louis' christening in July, Duchess Meghan matched her hat to her dress! The wide-brimmed olive green accessory was crafted by one of the royals' favorite milliners, Stephen Jones.

Royal protocol required Duchess Meghan to add a hat to her Trooping the Colour ensemble in June, so she opted for this funky Philip Treacy slice design that matched her pale-pink ensemble.

During her first appearance at the annual National Service of Remembrance in November, Duchess Meghan went for a somber but stylish angled black velvet pillbox hat.

For this year's Easter church services, Duchess Kate donned an old favorite — this Lock & Co. chocolate brown hat. It's one of her staples, as the royal has worn the designer's "Betty Boop" style several times.

While on her royal tour Down Under on Oct. 23, Duchess Meghan looked regal in this white Stephen Jones creation.

Duchess Meghan continued with the reserved looks for the National Service of Remembrance in November, accessorizing with a dark blue felt beret. Understated and yet completely chic, we think!
