After an intervention led by estranged wife Jennifer Garner on Aug. 22, Ben Affleck checked himself into a rehab facility in Malibu. Multiple outlets reported that Ben fell off the wagon a few months ago and has been struggling to stay sober. In 2017, he announced he'd completed a second rehab stint (his first was in 2001) for alcohol issues. Jen herself drove the father of her three children to The Canyon at Peace Park, a luxe world-class treatment facility nestled in the Santa Monica Mountains.

Sex assault claim
Asia Argento — one of the first stars to accuse disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein of rape — paid a $380,000 settlement to a former child actor related to an alleged sexual assault incident from 2013, The New York Times reported this week. Actor Jimmy Bennett was 17 when, according to legal documents obtained by the Times, he met up with former co-star Asia, then 37, at a Los Angeles-area hotel in May 2013. He claimed she gave him alcohol, kissed him then performed oral sex and had intercourse with him (the age of consent in California is 18). Initially, reports indicated that Asia would not be investigated for statutory rape, but reports have since indicated that is no longer the case. On Aug. 21, Asia denied having "a sexual relationship" with Jimmy and said her late boyfriend, Anthony Bourdain, funded the settlement after Jimmy initially demanded far more (the NYT says he initially wanted $3.5 million in damages) so that they "would no longer suffer any further intrusions in our life." Jimmy issued a statement explaining that he didn't make his sexual assault claims until just a few months ago because "My trauma resurfaced as she came out as a victim herself."
Airplane arrest
Country singer Gretchen Wilson was arrested on Aug. 21 after an incident aboard a commercial airliner during a flight from New York to Connecticut. According to law enforcement sources, the Grammy winner got into a shoving match with another passenger over the airplane's restroom, all while cruising at about 30,000 feet. She was arrested when the plane landed. TMZ said the "Redneck Woman" singer "threw her hands in the air and demanded to be arrested" after seeing law enforcement. A police report indicates that while she was being interviewed by cops, she "became belligerent towards the troopers, and caused a disturbance." Gretchen was booked into jail on second-degree breach of peace charges.
Plane makes emergency landing
Talk about terrifying! On Aug. 21, Post Malone was aboard an airplane that had to make an emergency landing because two tires blew out shortly after takeoff. The drama of the in-air emergency played out in real time on social media because the rapper's Europe-bound plane was loaded with fuel, forcing it to circle for hours over the East Coast in order to burn off fuel to minimize damage during a possible crash landing. There were 16 people onboard the private aircraft, which eventually successfully landed at a New York airport. Thousands watched the landing via multiple livestream videos from the airport. No one was injured in the incident. After landing, Post told TMZ, "I hate flying, in general. I don't even know what to say. I'm shook." He went on to praise the flight crew. "They're one hell of a team on that aircraft, and we're here," he said. "We're here on earth, and I need a beer, and I need some wine at the same time." He also took to Twitter and thanked everyone for their prayers.

Robbery victim
Former MTV star Bam Margera appeared to break his sobriety after getting robbed by gun-wielding thieves in Colombia. Bam detailed the robbery in an Instagram video, saying, "I just arrived in Cartagena alone and I took a taxi, a random one, from the airport to here, and I couldn't speak Spanish, they couldn't speak English, and they translated on their phone for me to read 'empty your wallet' as they put a gun on their lap to show it to me. So I did and I had 500 bucks. They let me go. That was weird. Welcome to Colombia." He followed up his robbery post with a since-deleted video of himself opening a beer. "Sober since January 10th, this is how you open a beer being alone, bored and robbed," he captioned the clip, which he took down on Aug. 20.
