Robert Duvall got his start on the stage, acting in various plays before taking a break to join the U.S. Army for a year in the early 1950s. He returned to stage acting and dabbled in TV before landing his debut film role as Boo Radley in 1962's "To Kill a Mockingbird."

Following "To Kill A Mockingbird," Robert Duvall appeared in numerous TV shows. In 1963, he acted on an episode of "The Twilight Zone," seen here, as well as episodes of "The Virginian" and "Stoney Burke" that same year.

Wedding bells! Robert Duvall married his first wife, Barbara Benjamin, in 1984. They were together until 1975. They're seen here at an Academy Awards party in 1973.
Robert Duvall starred in a slew of films in the late '60s from "Countdown" in 1967 and "Bullitt" in 1968 to "True Grit," seen here, opposite John Wayne in 1969.
In 1970, Robert Duvall made waves as Major Frank Burns in the film "MASH." He followed that up with another big movie — 1971's "THX 1138" in which he played a fugitive attempting to escape an alien society.
