Stars over 70 who are still making movies in Hollywood

Someone in their 70s is called a septuagenarian, while if they're in their 80s, they're an octogenarian. In their 90s, they're a nonagenarian, and someone past 100 is a centenarian. But when that person is a celebrity in Hollywood who's still kicking a– and taking on work like it's no big thing, Wonderwall.com just calls them "awesome." One such celeb is critically acclaimed director, producer, writer and actor Martin Scorsese (you know, the guy who gave us incredible movies like "Goodfellas," "The Wolf of Wall Street," "The Departed" and "Gangs of New York"). On Nov. 17, 2017, Martin celebrates his 75th birthday and trust us when we tell you he's not slowing down one bit. He's executive producing a whopping eight upcoming films (including an origin movie for our favorite villain, the Joker) as well as directing three new movies, including the 2018 crime drama "The Irishman." It's clear to see that stars like Martin only get brighter as time goes on. Keep reading to see who else who's 70-plus in Hollywood isn't retiring anytime soon…

On the same day Martin Scorsese turns 75, actress and model Lauren Hutton turns 74. The famed beauty just wrapped the 2018 comedy "I Feel Pretty" co-starring Michelle Williams and Amy Schumer. What's even more exciting is that Lauren was one of Calvin Klein's featured models for the brand's 2017 underwear campaign — at the glorious age of 73.

You guys, we're still in shock that Harrison Ford is 75! Because he's a G, he's still making movies for us to love, including 2017's sci-fi action flick "Blade Runner 2049" co-starring Ryan Gosling (in which Harrison reprised his role as Rick Deckard from the original "Blade Runner" and proved he's still got it with a couple serious fight scenes). The Oscar-nominated actor recently announced there will be another "Indiana Jones" movie that's set to come out in 2020. Seriously, we can't wait!

The eternally lovely Helen Mirren turned 72 in 2017 and still looks better than we do on our best day. The Oscar, Screen Actors Guild and Golden Globe Award-winning actress has five new movies coming our way, starting with "The Leisure Seeker" in January 2018 (which co-stars another actor on our list, Donald Sutherland). Aside from keeping us thoroughly entertained, there's something else we love about our girl Helen — she's always up for speaking her mind. In Allure's September issue, she said she doesn't want to be treated any different as she gets older: "If people treat me like the age I am, I get absolutely insulted, really cross. I hate when people give up their seat for me. No, no, no. I don't want your seat."

The real question is, who doesn't adore SAG, Golden Globe and Primetime Emmy Award-winning star Martin Sheen? The 77 year old has been doing his thing since 1956. Let that sink in for a minute. Martin, who currently stars on our favorite streaming series, Netflix's "Grace and Frankie," has been mastering his craft for 61 long years. He's currently filming "Princess of the Row" and recently wrapped production on the 2018 drama "Come Sunday."

Just for reference, this picture of Susan Sarandon was taken on Sept. 3, 2017 — and we're in awe of how ageless the beautiful actress has remained over her impressive 71 years. The Oscar-winning star has had a busy 2017. Not only did Susan appear on the series "Ray Donovan" and star in the biopic miniseries "Feud," but she also had a hilarious role in "Bad Moms Christmas" and just wrapped two new movies including the 2018 comedy "Going Places."

Morgan Freeman has the voice that's launched a thousand road trips (seriously, his voice was an optional navigator for the Waze driving app). The 80-year-old Academy Award winner (who will always be God to us) is still making movies we love, including the 2017 crime comedy "Going in Style" and the Dec. 8 comedy "Just Getting Started." Thankfully, he's also got three more films in the works — "Cold Warriors," "The Nutcracker and the Four Realms" and "Angel Has Fallen" — all of which are due in theaters in 2018.

"Downton Abbey" and "Harry Potter" alum Maggie Smith is 82 years young and still taking on new movie roles. While the two-time Academy Award winner hasn't starred in a film since 2015 (please tell us you saw "The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel"?!), she recently took on the voice role of Lady Blueberry in the animated adventure "Sherlock Gnomes," which is due in theaters on March 23, 2018.

One of Maggie Smith's dearest friends is 78-year-old fellow Brit Ian McKellen. The SAG and Golden Globe Award-winning actor has been in some of our favorite films ("X-Men," hello) and starred in 2017's "Beauty and the Beast" as Cogsworth, the enchanted clock and butler. Back home in London, Ian took time to perform on stage in the theater production of "Figures of Speech" and lent his voice to an upcoming animated adventure, "Animal Crackers." Ian's also set to star in the Shakespearean drama "Hamlet Revenant," which is hopefully due in theaters in 2018.

Diane Keaton's been cool since before we even knew what cool was. The 71-year-old Oscar winner has been in the biz for 47 years and shows no signs of slowing down. In 2017, she starred in the romantic dramedy "Hampstead" alongside Irish actor Brendan Gleeson (he's not quite 70 yet). Diane's also wrapped up filming on the 2018 comedy "Book Club" co-starring Jane Fonda and Mary Steenburgen, and she just signed on to star in the comedy "Poms."

Speaking of cool cats, Robert De Niro practically invented the word. The 74-year-old Oscar-winning actor and producer is still going strong in Hollywood and we're not mad at him for it. In 2017, Bob starred as Bernie Madoff in the TV movie (that he also produced) "The Wizard of Lies." He recently wrapped up production on the 2018 comedy "The War with Grandpa" and will also star in Martin Scorsese's upcoming biographical drama "The Irishman."

Gorgeous Judi Dench might be 82, but she's not letting that stop her from dropping new movies like they're hot. In 2017, the Oscar-winning actress starred in three new films: the drama "Tulip Fever," the biopic "Victoria and Abdul" and the crime mystery "Murder on the Orient Express." She's also filming a role as the narrator for the upcoming comedy "Schadenfreude" and is rumored to be cast in the 2019 adventure "Artemis Fowl."

Clint Eastwood is our senior citizen goals, y'all. At 87, he's still busy giving talks on how he's so darn successful (in France, no less) while directing (and producing) the 2018 drama "The 15:18 to Paris." The former "Dirty Harry" star hasn't appeared on-screen since his uncredited cameo in the 2014 biopic "American Sniper" (which he also directed). That's okay, though, because after 52 years in show business, he gets to be a little camera-shy these days.

Get ready to faint because Jane Fonda (or as we like to call her, Grace) is about to turn 80 on Dec. 21, 2017. The flawless Oscar-winning actress and current star of Netflix's "Grace and Frankie" also starred alongside octogenarian legend Robert Redford in the 2017 romantic drama "Our Souls at Night." She recently wrapped the 2018 comedy "Book Club" too, which means we're going to get to see even more of Jane soon.

There's something wholesome and good about Oscar-winning actor Tommy Lee Jones that's hard to put into words. He's been in many of our favorite movies over the years ("Men in Black" and "No Country for Old Men" being just two of them) and now at 71, when many people are hanging their hats and sailing off into retirement, he's still capturing our hearts on the big screen. Thank god for that. In 2017, Tommy appeared in the biographical drama "Shock and Awe" and will star in the Dec. 8 comedy "Just Getting Started." He also signed on to star in the historical drama "Stoner" and is filming the 2018 sci-fi thriller "Ad Astra."

Oscar-winning Canadian actor Christopher Plummer has the unique distinction of being the most senior of senior citizens on our list at 87 years young (turning 88 on Dec. 13, 2017). Ever the busy bee, Christopher's been slaying 2017, appearing in films such as the upcoming Nov. 22 biographical dramedy "The Man Who Invented Christmas" and the Dec. 22 drama "All the Money in the World." He's also lent his voice to the animated adventures "Howard Lovecraft & the Undersea Kingdom" and "The Star." As if that wasn't enough, Chris has three more films in the works — "Cliffs of Freedom," "The Last Full Measure" and "Boundaries" — all due in theaters in 2018.

Whether you remember 78-year-old Lily Tomlin from her string of female-centric comedies in the '80s ("9 to 5" and "Big Business," for starters) or see her as the goofy but lovable pot-smoking divorcee Frankie on the Netflix series "Grace and Frankie," we're betting you've got nothing but love for this Emmy, Grammy and SAG Award-winning (and Oscar-nominated) actress. In addition to her Netflix role, in 2017, Lily also lent her voice to "The Magic School Bus Rides Again" and wrapped the Nov. 24 dramedy "The Madness Within." She's also in pre-production for the comedy "The Road Home."

We'd follow 77-year-old English actor (and former "Star Trek" captain) Patrick Stewart to space and beyond. As our beloved Dr. Charles Xavier from "X-Men," Patrick may (or may not) be retired from the franchise, but that doesn't mean he's not pumping out new films at superhero speed. In 2017, he lent his voice (again) to the most recent season of "American Dad!" and to two animated films, "Dragonheart: Battle for the Heartfire" and "The Emoji Movie," while also starring in "Logan" and "The Wilde Wedding." He's wrapped up production on the musical drama "The Gift" and is currently filming "The Kid Who Would Be King," which is due in theaters in 2018.

In her incredible 59-year career in Hollywood, 80-year-old Vanessa Redgrave has won all the major acting awards (we're talking Oscar, Tony, BAFTA, SAG, Golden Globe, Emmy and more). There's a reason people love this British actress — she's a master at her craft. In 2017, she continued to share her gift with the world by starring in the PBS series "Call the Midwife" and appearing in the dramatic miniseries "Man in an Orange Shirt." She also stars in the Nov. 16 biographical drama "Film Stars Don't Die in Liverpool" and wrapped up filming two dramas for 2018: "The Aspern Papers" and "Georgetown."

Ben Kingsley is another actor who's won all the major awards and starred in practically all the films (at least all the ones that mattered, like "Gandhi," which is, in many respects, a national treasure). The 73-year-old star (who turns 74 on Dec. 31, 2017) is as active on the silver screen as ever. He starred in four films in 2017 including "War Machine" and "The Ottoman Lieutenant" and is in production for another nine projects, including the animated miniseries "Watership Down" and the 2018 films "Backstabbing for Beginners" and "Nomis."

We've looked at this April 30, 2017, photo of 73-year-old singing legend Gladys Knight for hours, trying to figure out how she looks so flawless. While we're still uncertain Ms. Gladys is actually human (her talent exceeds any mere mortal's), we are sure she's not wasting a single moment of her amazing life. The radiant Grammy-winning musical performer and actress had a busy schedule in 2017 that included guest appearances on the TV series "Star" and filming the thriller "Live" while also touring the country performing her hit songs.

If 82-year-old honorary Academy Award winner Donald Sutherland looks strangely familiar, it's either because he looks just like his son, Kiefer Sutherland, or because you've watched any number of his hit films like the more recent "Horrible Bosses" or "The Hunger Games." In 2017, Donald's still going full steam, appearing on the crime series "Ice" and in the musical rom-com "Basmati Blues." He's also set to star in the 2018 dramedy "The Leisure Seeker" as well as "Measure of a Man." He's finishing out the year filming the new crime series "Trust" as well as Brad Pitt's 2019 sci-fi thriller, "Ad Astra."

Blythe Danner might be Gwyneth Paltrow's mom but she's also an accomplished Emmy and Tony-winning actress too. In 2017, the lovely 74-year-old star appeared on the drama series "Gypsy" and also wrapped up filming four new movies including "What They Had" and "Hearts Beat Loudly" — both due in theaters in 2018. Blythe's also taken on a role in the upcoming miniseries "Patrick Melrose."

Legendary film star Robert Redford is one of the most iconic actors on our list. The 81-year-old Oscar, Golden Globe, Presidential Medal of Freedom (and more) winner is still making movie magic in 2017 with two films: "The Discovery" and a movie he both starred in and produced, "Our Souls at Night" (co-starring Jane Fonda). He also executive produced the documentary "The Big Bang" and is in post-production on two new films: "Be Natural: The Untold Story of Alice Guy Blaché" and the 2018 crime dramedy "Old Man and the Gun" (which, lucky for us, he's also starring in).

Another legendary actress we can't leave out is 85 year old "West Side Story" star Rita Moreno, who's won an Oscar, a Golden Globe, numerous Emmys and, like Robert Redford, the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Never one to sit still, Rita has maintained an active filming schedule in 2017 that's included shooting the TV series "Nina's World" and "One Day at a Time" as well as the cinematic thriller "Torch."

Last but not least is the terrific (and often terrifying) Anthony Hopkins. The Welsh actor, whose prize cabinet includes an Oscar, a Golden Globe, two Emmys and multiple BAFTAs, turns 80 on Dec. 31, 2017 (the same day Ben Kingsley turns 74!). And because he's clearly unstoppable (he was Hannibal Lecter, after all), Anthony's still commanding the screen with roles in the 2017 films "Transformers: The Last Knight" and "Thor: Ragnarok" while filming the 2018 TV drama "King Lear."
