Public Enemies Premiere

Heeeere's Johnny! Although the always dapper Mr. Depp had to share the red carpet with his "Public Enemies" co-star Christian Bale at the film's LA Film Festival premiere on June 23, his blue specs (and matching shirt and pendant) gave him the gangster fashion edge in our opinion.

Click through to see which other famous faces showed up to see a sneak preview of the film, which is rumored to be one of the best of 2009. "Public Enemies" is now in theaters nationwide.

In "Public Enemies," Christian Bale plays a good guy, Agent Melvin Purvis. Although Bale couldn't name his personal favorite gangster movie off the top of his head, he did tell Wonderwall this:

"I don't [make films] because I'm a movie buff. I don't see many movies. I do it because I love the process of making movies, especially with [director] Michael Mann."

Man, Mann's lucky. Spike Jonze didn't have it quite as easy with Bale. (Wink, wink; nudge, nudge.)

Charming Academy Award winning actress Marion Cotillard looked lovely, per usual, on the red carpet. She plays the fragile love interest, Billie Frechette, to Johnny Depp's leading bad guy, John Dillinger, in "Public Enemies."

Frechette, eh? Were there French gangster molls? Who knew!

No, here's lookin' at YOU, Stephen Dorff! We were psyched to see the seemingly long-lost actor at the "Public Enemies" premiere. Turns out he plays bank robber Homer Van Meter in the movie. Nice. We like that he's returning to his bad boy roots.

Why the long face, Leelee Sobieski? When you get to make out with Johhny Depp in a movie, we expect a perma-grin on your face for at least six months to a year afterward. Seriously, though, was it tough to play Depp's other lady love, Polly Hamilton?

"So difficult," Leelee joked. "I just had to get rid of the image of his face and put someone else's there instead. No, I've had a crush on him [since] I was 6 years old. I loved 'CryBaby.'"

Sobieski also told Wonderwall her gangster name would either be "Leelee Sonofab—-eski" or "Leelee Sobesexy." Bad girl!

Giovanni Ribisi plays bad guy Alvin Karpis in "Public Enemies," a criminal who was nicknamed "Creepy" for his sinister smile. Creepy? Really? We never thought of Giovanni as creepy before. He always seemed kind of innocent and dopey to us, but maybe we're thinking of his child actor days on "My Two Dads" and "The Wonder Years" more than, you know, now. They grow up so fast!

Rosario Dawson lends a little purple panache to the red carpet at the "Public Enemies" premiere. The dress is a little more disco than flapper-era to us, but she pulls it off.

If he was ever a gangster, Shawn Hatosy told Wonderwall his name would be, "Spike. Just Spike." Well then, it's probably a good thing he plays one of the good guys, Agent John Madala, in "Public Enemies" instead.

Despite the fact that he didn't get to be a bad guy this time, Hatosy raved about filming the movie. "This whole thing is awesome. We got cars and guns, and it's Michael Mann (directing), so I'm just happy to be here," he said. You should be, son!

Last time we saw Amber Heard, she was romancing Seth Rogen onscreen in "Pineapple Express." The actress lent her sexy strut to the "Public Enemies" red carpet, and audiences will see her again soon — co-starring with Johnny Depp and Giovanni Ribisi in "The Rum Diary" in 2010. Ahh, so that's how she got the invite. Lucky girl!

Remember actor Rory Cochrane from "Dazed and Confused"? Now he plays tragic Agent Carter Baum in "Public Enemies."

Cochrane had nothing but good things to say about his co-star, Christian Bale: "He was such a pro, so dedicated … he never complained about a damn thing … he's terrific."

Wise words, Cochrane.

"Big Love" fans may recognize Serbian actress Branka Katic as Bill's latest girlfriend, Ana, on the HBO series. Katic plays a different "Anna" character in "Public Enemies," this time yet another one of Johnny Depp aka John Dillinger's love interests. So, how was it working with the longtime heartthrob?

"He is so kind and easy and respectful and wonderful," Katic gushed. No surprise there!
