Jane Curtin took over "Weekend Update" in 1976 after Chevy Chase left "Saturday Night Live" during its second season. She served as the sole anchor for a few months until early 1977.

Dan Aykroyd joined Jane Curtin to co-anchor "Weekend Update" during the third season of "Saturday Night Live" between 1977 and 1978.
Bill Murray then served as Jane Curtin's "Weekend Update" co-anchor during the fourth and fifth seasons of "Saturday Night Live" between 1978 and 1980.
Charles Rocket, who spent time working as a real news anchor in Colorado and Nashville before he joined the cast of "Saturday Night Live," served as the anchor of "Weekend Update" during Season 6 from 1980 to 1981.
During the seventh season of "Saturday Night Live," "Weekend Update" rebranded as "SNL NewsBreak" with Brian Doyle-Murray serving as the main anchor. Though he sometimes co-hosted alongside Mary Gross or Christine Ebersole, he also occasionally anchored the segment alone between late 1981 and mid-1982.
"SNL NewsBreak" rebranded as "Saturday Night News" from 1982 to 1985. During the eighth season of "Saturday Night Live" (from 1982 to 1983), Brad Hall served as the main anchor. But there were no consistent anchors during Season 9 or the first half of Season 10 (late 1983 to late 1984). Instead, various cast members and even guest hosts rotated through the position.
Christopher Guest took over as the main anchor of "Saturday Night News" from late 1984 to mid-1985, during the second half of the tenth season of "SNL."
"Weekend Update" officially returned in the fall of 1985, during the 11th season of "Saturday Night Live." Dennis Miller served as the solo anchor until the end of Season 16 in 1991.
Kevin Nealon headlined "Weekend Update" from 1991 to 1994, during the 17th, 18th and 19th seasons of "Saturday Night Live."
Norm Macdonald hosted "Weekend Update" by himself from 1994 to late 1997, during the 20th, 21st and 22nd seasons of "Saturday Night Live," as well as during the first half of Season 23.
Colin Quinn took over as the sole anchor of "Weekend Update" during the second half of Season 23 in early 1998. He held onto the position until the end of Season 25 in 2000. (He's seen here in 2001 with his replacements, Tina Fey and Jimmy Fallon.)
"Weekend Update" returned to a two-anchor system after Colin Quinn left "Saturday Night Live" in 2000. Tina Fey and Jimmy Fallon co-hosted the segment until 2004 (Seasons 26 to 29).
Amy Poehler replaced Jimmy Fallon as Tina Fey's "Weekend Update" co-anchor when he left "Saturday Night Live" in 2004 — the first time two women starred on the sketch together. The real-life besties served as co-anchors for Seasons 30 and 31 until Tina left "SNL" in 2006.
In 2005, Horatio Sanz filled in for Tina Fey alongside Amy Poehler at the "Weekend Update" news desk when Tina took a break from "Saturday Night Live" to welcome her first child, daughter Alice.
Seth Meyers replaced Tina Fey as Amy Poehler's "Weekend Update" co-anchor when she left "Saturday Night Live" in 2006. They co-starred on the sketch during Seasons 32 and 33, as well as during the first half of Season 34 until late 2008, when Amy left to welcome her first child, son Archie.
Seth Meyers anchored "Weekend Update" all by his lonesome during the second half of Season 34 of "Saturday Night Live" in late 2008 and early 2009. He continued as the segment's sole host until the end of Season 38 in 2013.
Cecily Strong joined Seth Meyers as the co-anchor of "Weekend Update" during Season 39 in the fall of 2013. They only worked together for a few months until early 2014 when he began transitioning away from "Saturday Night Live" and into his role as the host of "Late Night."
Colin Jost replaced Seth Meyers in early 2014 and finished Season 39 of "Saturday Night Live" as Cecily Strong's "Weekend Update" co-anchor.
Michael Che replaced Cecily Strong to co-anchor "Weekend Update" alongside Colin Jost during Season 40 of "Saturday Night Live" in 2014. Surprisingly, it's the only time two men have anchored the segment together. As of mid-2017, they're still going strong.
