Despite Demi Lovato having a much larger fanbase than her former fiancé, he claims that the pop star is using their breakup for "clout."
Earlier in the week, Demi touched on her failed engagement to Max Ehrich while hosting the People's Choice Awards. While speaking about quarantining, Demi said, "I went into lockdown mode, and got engaged. I got into painting, photography, meditation, tested the limits of Postmates Unlimited. I also, didn't know this could happen, but I reached the end of Instagram four times. I binged seven seasons of 'Pretty Little Liars,' got unengaged, then went looking for aliens in the desert."
Max found little humor in the joke, writing on Demi's Instagram, "Stop talking about me on award shows. Thanks." He followed that up with another comment, reading, "exploiting our breakup for clout at PCA is not chill."
Demi and Max have been on different pages ever since they split in late September amid rumors that he was trying to contact other female celebrities on social media. A few days later, on Sept. 30, Demi leaked her own breakup song on Twitter. Reports claimed that the song was written a while ago, but the pop star changed the lyrics after the split.
Max's actions since the breakup have been inconsistent and head scratching. Just says before the song was released, Max claimed that he learned of the split via the media, something Demi's inner circle disputed. Then, Max claimed they hadn't "officially" broken up because they hadn't spoken to each other. Demi's team again claimed otherwise. He then pleaded for Demi to take him back. Somewhere in there, Max also claimed Demi's manager, Scooter Braun, was trying to muzzle him. Then, on Oct. 2, he claimed Demi "used" him.
"It's just the craziest thing. This is the most bizarre experience that I hope no one ever has to experience, ever. Because no person deserves to feel this way," he said before speaking about other high-profile splits.
"Pete Davidson didn't deserve to feel this way. Do you think he wrote that text to Mac Miller?" Max said, referring to Ariana Grande's exes. "Open your eyes. Calculated PR stunt, but my team is going to hate me for saying any of this."
After that, Max claimed he was being "bullied."
Around that same time, he returned to the beach where he proposed to Demi and cried in front of the paparazzi. Earlier this week, on a separate beach, he kissed singer Mariah Angeliq in front of the paparazzi.
