Now we know why Selena Gomez was silent over the summer despite the fact she had new music to promote. On Sept. 14, Selena revealed that she secretly underwent a kidney transplant — and her best friend was her donor. In an Instagram post, Selena shared an image of herself holding hands with Francia Raisa, her donor, in their hospital beds. "I found out I needed to get a kidney transplant due to my Lupus and was recovering. It was what I needed to do for my overall health," she wrote. "I honestly look forward to sharing with you, soon my journey through these past several months as I have always wanted to do with you. Until then I want to publicly thank my family and incredible team of doctors for everything they have done for me prior to and post-surgery. And finally, there aren't words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa. She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much sis. Lupus continues to be very misunderstood but progress is being made."

Lung cancer
Legendary TV host Larry King has revealed he was secretly diagnosed with lung cancer, but is now on the mend. "It wasn't really a battle. It was really strange, Mario," he told "Extra" host Mario Lopez on Sept. 13. "I have a checkup every year. I've gone through a lot in my life — I've had a heart attack and heart surgery. Part of my checkup is the chest X-ray, and that is the protocol. I do it every year… it was always normal. Then the doctor says, 'I see a little spot here. Let's do a CAT scan, so they do a CAT scan, and they say, 'Let's do a PET scan'… I don't think there are any other scans." On July 17, he underwent surgery to remove the spot. "They were going to take it out if it was malignant or benign. They tested it. They said, 'You are fine.' It was stage 1," Larry said. "I had no clue at all. If I had not had the chest X-ray, it would have progressed."
Officially single
Scarlett Johansson is a single woman. On Sept. 13, Scarlett and ex Romain Dauriac finalized their divorce, multiple outlets reported. In addition, the former duo also submitted a sealed settlement in Manhattan Supreme Court concerning custody of their 3-year-old daughter, Rose Dorothy Dauriac. Details of the settlement are not known. The custody battle began earlier this year when the actress sued her ex and asked for primary custody of their child. Romain fought her request and his attorney revealed that he wanted to raise Rose in his native France. He also argued that Scarlett couldn't raise the child effectively because she travels too much for work.
Engaged
Mandy Moore is reportedly engaged! But neither the "This Is Us" star nor her man, musician Taylor Goldsmith, broke the news. In an interview with "Entertainment Tonight," Mandy's costar Chris Sullivan said, "I was just in the studio with her her boyfriend, well now fiance, Taylor." He added that she told her on-screen family the news in a group text. "She just sent out an alert over our family text chain, so I can't wait to hear about it," he explained. "She just sent a photo and just wanted us all to know that this just happened, and so then we went on a response spree for about a day and a half." Mandy and Taylor have been dating for more ethan two years. Journalist Marc Malkin said they got engaged at their home on Sept. 11.

Custody agreement settled
Rob Kardashian and Blac Chyna have settled their custody battle over their daughter, Dream. On Sept. 12, TMZ reported that both sides weren't that far apart on a division of custody but still had some things to figure out in terms of child support. On Sept. 15, the website said the agreement was in place. Under terms of the deal, Rob gets Dream a little more than 50 percent of the time. He will also pay Chyna $20,000 a month in child support, most of which Rob thinks will go to nannies. In return, she has agreed to drop her domestic violence allegations against him. Rob has also agreed to pay her legal fees. That wasn't the only time the former duo made news this week either. On Sept. 11, there were reports that child services officials were concerned about Dream's well-being after Rob claimed his ex was a drug abuser. She claimed he was physically abusive at times. TMZ reported that officials went to the L.A. County Dependency Court to ask a judge to determine if the baby girl is safe. Us Weekly, though, claims that's not true and that there isn't an investigation and never was.
Heartbreaking miscarriage, relapse
Jonathan Rhys Meyers' wife, Mara Lane, shared some absolutely heartbreaking news this week when she revealed that she had miscarried their second child. Mara posted the news on Instagram after the actor, who's long battled alcohol issues, was seen heavily intoxicated at an airport. She implied his relapse was sparked by their devastating news. "With much sadness, we open our hearts to share that J and I lost our second child, who was baking in the oven. Child was very very much wanted (right now especially by J, so he took the news particularly not so well) and we are still working with coping skills over here… when life throws us curve balls such as these…" she wrote. "He is safe and with his sober living companion and bodyguard to get into a detox closer to home since he was denied hospital help twice in Ireland because of an already two month wait period. Life is life. Life is beautiful. Life is tough sometimes though so let's try not looking down at someone unless we intend on helping them up." On Sept. 12, she shared a video in which she discovers that she lost their baby. She also buried their child at the foot of a tree near their home. "I have been given peace and Baby Willow is now planted in the tree in front of our home that has weeping long branches and leaves so we can brush our faces in soft leaves in passing or we can see the baby dance with the wind in the branches as they sway. It is helping me process the situation … as Nature does."
Engagement off
Carrie Ann Inaba and Robb Derringer have ended their engagement just nine months after he popped the question. The two had been planning a Hawaiian wedding when their romance came to a screeching halt. The circumstances of the split aren't known. Speculation that the "Dancing With The Stars" judge and the "General Hospital" alum had broken up began after she posted a cryptic Instagram post of a quote that read, "Just when I think I've learned the way to live, life changes." She captioned the graphic of the quote with prayer hands and a broken-heart emoji. On Sept. 13, she shared another quote on Instagram that read, "Life is a balance of holding on and letting go." Again, she used the broken-heart emoji in her caption.
Baby news
It's confirmed: Carey Mulligan is a mom again. On Sept. 12, multiple media outlets reported with confidence that the actress and her husband, Marcus Mumford of the band Mumford and Sons, had welcomed their second child together. What tipped them off? Carey attended the Toronto International Film Festival and wasn't pregnant! The actress and her husband are incredibly private and almost never speak about their personal life (she actually never confirmed she was pregnant, although it was fairly obvious). The child was born last month, but little else is known. When asked by People magazine how it felt being a mom of two, she replied, "It's good, thank you!"
