Kim Kardashian West and Kanye West have gone on a completely off-the-grid vacation in what's basically being described as a last-ditch effort to save their six-year marriage.
TMZ reports that the couple and their children boarded a private jet earlier this week and "flew to a tropical island outside the country."
Kim and Kanye's marriage has been under a microscope of late, particularly given his Twitter rants and the fact that they've reportedly spent very little time together over the past few months — she's been in Los Angeles with the kids, while he's been living at the family's $14 million ranch in Wyoming. Multiple reports said he was even ignoring Kim's calls for a few days. Kanye also tweeted last month that he's been eyeing a divorce, though he later deleted the headline-making tweet.
While the couple essentially lives in front of cameras, this marriage-defining trip was specifically planned so that it would not be interrupted by paparazzi. Kim had also previously banned reality TV cameras from capturing Kanye in his current state of mind, so it's unlikely the trip will appear on "Keeping Up With the Kardashians."
Sources close to Kim and Kanye said the family is staying in a "fortress" and "an estate that is so remote, it's virtually impossible for trespassers to get close."
Since the family headed off to the unspecified location, there has been radio silence from them. TMZ added that this is not expected to be a quick trip either.
The getaway, TMZ reported on Aug. 3, is "a private family vacation to try and work things out." The website adds that this vacation "will be a time for [Kanye] to prove … he's willing to change for his family."
One of the things most certainly being discussed is Kanye's long shot presidential bid. Page Six said earlier in the week that Kim has urged the rapper to end his campaign for the sake of the family, but he has actually dug his heels in harder.
"Kim begged Kanye to stop his presidential thing, to stop talking about their kids at rallies. But he ignored her and instead he went ahead and hired more people … and tried to register in more states," a source said, adding that Kanye "just won't stop" in his desire to become the next POTUS.
Prior to the current vacation, the duo reunited briefly in Wyoming. It didn't look like a happy reunion, though — paparazzi photos last week showed Kim crying while she and Kanye appeared to be involved in a heated discussion.
"This is a nightmare for Kim, she is looking for a way out," Page Six's source said. "But she's also a nice person and wants to do the best for her kids."
