Rooney Mara and Joaquin Phoenix are sitting on some very happy news, according to a new report: They're expecting.
A source confirmed to Page Six that the Oscar winner and the actress are set to become parents in just a few months.
Reps for the couple have not responded to requests for comment from the New York Post's gossip column, but newly released photos seem to add credence to the source's claim that Rooney is pregnant.
On May 10 — Mother's Day — the "Carol" and "The Girl With the Dragon" tattoo actress was photographed visiting sister Kate Mara, who welcomed her first child with husband Jamie Bell last year. In one of the photos, Rooney can be seen clutching a bouquet of flowers and carrying a bag while wearing an unusually large sweatshirt that appears to conceal a growing baby bump.
According to Page Six's source, Rooney, 35, and Joaquin, 45, have been doing all they can to keep a low profile while quarantining in Los Angeles amid the coronavirus pandemic. Rooney, the source said, could be as far as six months along and has been wearing baggy clothing while in public to distract from her changing body.
Reports that the wildly private couple are engaged emerged last year, though neither has publicly confirmed that happy news either.
Rooney and Joaquin have been together for more than three years. They met making the 2014 movie "Her" but did not start dating, it's believed, until 2016 when they filmed the 2018 movie "Mary Magdalene," in which she played the titular character and he played Jesus.
Last year while doing press to promote his starring turn in "Joker" — for which he won the best actor Academy Award in February — Joaquin told Vanity Fair that he used to think Rooney "despised" him, though he later realized she was just shy. He also admitted that "She's the only girl I ever looked up on the internet. We were just friends, email friends. I'd never done that. Never looked up a girl online."
In 2018, a friend told the New York Post that the two were "meant for each other," explaining that the pair are very much alike. "Both [are] shy homebodies, both loathe press," the friend added.
Long before he started a relationship with Rooney, Joaquin had a high-profile romance with actress Liv Tyler in the '90s, then made headlines in 2013 when he, at 39, dated then-19-year-old DJ Allie Teilz, who went on to romance "Game of Thrones" star Alfie Allen, with whom she has a daughter.
Rooney split with director Charlie McDowell — the son of actors Mary Steenburgen and Malcolm McDowell — in 2016 after a six-year romance.
