The 2020 American Music Awards will be handed out on Nov. 22. Ahead of the stylish music show, Wonderwall.com is going back in time to 2010 to check out the red carpet. First up? Taylor Swift — who won favorite country female artist that night. She sported this sparkly little Collette Dinnigan dress that featured gorgeous embellished straps and plenty of sequins in metallic shades and paired perfectly with strappy embellished heels. Favorite R&B female artist winner Rihanna rocked Elie Saab at the American Music Awards back in 2010. We adored her burgundy gown, which featured long sleeves and floral embroidery, and the way that beautiful hue matched her hair.
This was a relatively low-key look for Katy Perry, who showed up at the 2010 American Music Awards in a simple strapless Badgley Mischka dress. The pale pink frock featured all-over floral appliques and paired perfectly with simple tan heels. She later performed her hit song "Firework" at the show.
Nicki Minaj donned a colorful Manish Arora design to the 2010 AMAs. The rapper's pretty confection featured bright pops of color and gold embellishments. She accessorized with hot pink strappy heels and a neon pink lip.
Minidresses reigned supreme on the American Music Awards red carpet back in 2010. Avril Lavigne got in on the trend in this strapless black-and-white geometric-print design by Dolce&Gabbana, which she paired with funky boots with silver embellishments plus layers of silver bracelets.
Though there were many minidresses on the red carpet, few were boring! Mandy Moore was among the stars who sported a unique one, arriving in this printed silver sequin mini by Matthew Williamson. She completed her look with tan heels.
The Black Eyed Peas coordinated in mostly black ensembles for the 2010 American Music Awards — apl.de.ap opted for an all-black suit while will.i.am rocked a black leather jacket with cheery decals, white jeans, light blue shoes and gloves and a matching top hat for a funky 'fit. Fergie went with a dark blue-and-black minidress complete with feathers and embellishments, which she paired with peep-toe heels. And Taboo rounded out the group in a black jacket, leather pants, a gray scarf and high-top sneakers. The group won favorite pop/rock band/duo/group that night.
"Dancing With the Stars" pro Karina Smirnoff stood out in a floor-length gown — complete with a train! — by Marc Bouwer. Her black-and-gold number featured an all-over print, one thin strap and a slinky, dramatic train for a high-fashion moment.
One thing guaranteed to never change across the decades? Jason Aldean's style. The country singer rocked his signature cowboy hat, a T-shirt and a leather jacket with jeans and cowboy boots to match.

"Dancing With the Stars" pro Maksim Chmerkovskiy's look certainly epitomized 2010 style: He opted for a T-shirt with a deep-V, a black blazer, leather pants and gray boots and accessorized with layers of necklaces.
Natasha Bedingfield embraced the minidress trend but added tights to her ensemble. She covered her black-and-white patterned Farah Angsana frock with a blazer then popped on dark tights and knee-high boots for a super-covered-up look. When it came time to add accessories, Natasha opted for a chunky necklace and a gold clutch.
It was an edgy Jerell Scott minidress for Christina Milian, whose frock included silver embellishments and sheer paneling. She completed it with some strappy embellished heels.
We're not quite sure why Darren Criss opted to wear red sunglasses on the red carpet. They certainly didn't match his outfit, but then again… his outfit didn't match either! The "Glee" star arrived in a black suit paired with a plaid dress shirt, a white tie and brown boots for an overall conflicting getup.
Keri Hilson went with a slinky and sleeveless black minidress and finished things off with black heels with gold embellishments.
Jenny McCarthy selected Stella McCartney for the big night — a one-shouldered turquoise-and-silver-sequined minidress. She added some classic peep-toe Christian Louboutin pumps and a metallic clutch.
Jada Pinkett Smith picked an Emilio Pucci design — a brown-and-gold ruffled dress — and added strappy gold sandals by Christian Louboutin to match.
Heidi Klum's sheer black design would definitely still fit in in 2020. The dress featured short sheer sleeves, a sheer lace skirt and a red-and-black belt detail at the waist.
It was leather on leather for Usher, who arrived looking impossibly cool in this all-black getup complete with sunglasses. He would take home favorite R&B male artist at the show later that night.
Pink opted for this simple and sophisticated black number, which featured thin straps, a plunging neckline and a full, tiered skirt. She rocked a cool icy gray hair shade and black heels to complete her polished American Music Awards look.
Whitney Port arrived in this pretty printed minidress by Rafael Cennamo. The "The Hills" star's confection featured one ruffled shoulder and a lilac belt detail at the waist, and she wrapped it up with gray heels.
Nickelodeon star Jennette McCurdy wore this pale pink ruffled knee-length frock with a thick black belt detail. She completed her look with black heels to complement the belt.
Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino kept things super-casual, opting for jeans, a black T-shirt, a black jacket, sneakers and a necklace and delivering a seriously underwhelming red carpet moment. At least he took his sunglasses off for the pictures!
Sheryl Crow opted for a bold printed dress. The loud frock mixed patterns and featured a halter-style neckline and a tied belt detail at the waist.
"Dancing With the Stars" pro Cheryl Burke was on hand in this ruched lilac minidress. She added some serious platform statement heels to the mix and carried a metallic clutch.
Hillary Scott of Lady A wowed in this stripey Pamella Roland gown that featured a single shoulder and a slinky silhouette. Her group won favorite country band/duo/group that night.
Another star who kept things super-casual? Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale, who arrived in jeans, boots, a T-shirt and an ill-fitting blazer.
NeYo, who performed that night, arrived in a chocolate brown suit that was tailored perfectly. The singer added some extra shades of brown with his shirt, tie and boots and topped everything off with a black hat.
