Fashion hits and misses from the 2018 Screen Actors Guild Awards

The red carpet at the 2018 Screen Actors Guild Awards was full of fashion risk-takers like Connie Britton, who dared to go all-out in metallic pink sequins with an Elisabetta Franchi wrap dress and a shiny gold clutch to match. But not all of the stars who gambled with their style for the night actually won big. While we appreciate her attempt at taking a red carpet risk, Kate Hudson stood out like a black sheep in her Little Bo Beep look for the 2018 SAG Awards. Her pink Valentino gown was way over the top with tons of tiny black hearts, tiered frills, a lace high neckline and big bow around the waist. This look was just baah-baah-bad.

What a gem! Reese Witherspoon went for it in an off-the-shoulder Zac Posen gown for the 2018 SAG Awards. Slightly different hues of forest green came together seamlessly to create an angular pattern on the unique frock. Reese Witherspoon opted for the perfect pair of Gismondi 1754 drop earrings to go along with her dark green look. The emerald and diamond sparklers were simply flawless.

Alison Brie's Dundas dress for the 2018 SAG Awards most definitely hit us like a bolt of lightning — similar to the one carved out on her side. We don't quite understand why the "GLOW" actress paired a bright red one-shouldered number with royal blue velvet platform shoes, or how a multicolor thunderous cutout fits into the picture. But it does make us want a closer look.

The lightning-inspired detail on Alison Brie's dress at the 2018 SAG Awards was even more eccentric up close — it's made of sequins in almost every color of the rainbow. If only she wore those gorgeous blue Irene Neuwirth drop earrings with a simpler dress.

As the evening's host, the pressure was on for Kristen Bell to make a splash on the red carpet at the 2018 SAG Awards, and boy, did she live up to the challenge. The "Happy Place" star wowed in a strapless magenta J. Mendel gown with a fitted corset bodice, subtly outlined in a purple hue. Red beaded flowers cascaded down to the bottom for extra flair. Kristen Bell seamlessly played off of her berry color palette with accessories from Platinum Jewelry and Lorraine Schwartz in varying tones of pink and purple. Rather than looking busy, the right choice of statement rings combined with a gem-like clutch seamlessly blended together.

Molly Sims' attempt at working with one color palette didn't work quite as effortlessly. She got herself into rocky waters with a mismatched array of ocean blues from her overly frilly turquoise Greta Constantine frock down to her seafoam Ethan K clutch.

Nicole Kidman took sequins to the next level for the 2018 SAG Awards. She wore a multi-tone metallic Armani Prive dress with a bold three-dimensional shoulder rosette for added punch. Together with a red lip, she was the epitome of edgy meets elegant.

Allison Williams' Old Hollywood glam look for the 2018 SAG Awards unfortunately fell pretty flat — just like her hair. Besides the dull beige color, her Ralph & Russo frock looked disjointed with three tiers of fringe and a squared-off neckline. One element we will give the "Girls" star credit for? With the size of that poofy skirt, we wouldn't be surprised if she was hiding an actual flock of birds under there.

Speaking of birds… Mary J. Blige wore a winged one-shouldered number for the 2018 SAG Awards. The Jean-Louis Sabaji gown looked more like a black swan costume than an award show dress. We'd like to see this dress take flight.

Laura Linney took the bird theme less literally than others at the 2018 SAG Awards. Her soft pink J. Mendel gown was accented with subtle silver embroidered feathers and made even more ethereal by the addition of a flowy cape. Is chirp-chic a thing?

Between her poofy shoulders, that gaudy crystal bow at the waist and her way overdone doll-like makeup, we think she should've saved this look strictly for playtime.

Vanessa Kirby put a much more adult spin on florals at the 2018 SAG Awards. The "The Crown" star wore a stunning sheer Valentino gown adorned with bright embroidered flowers. She tied the sexy feminine look together with a bold red lip.

Dakota Fanning's 2018 SAG Awards ensemble was a washout… literally. Her peachy Prada gown blended in way too much with her fair skin tone. And instead of that sparkling wavy pattern helping to make the dress pop, we're really just getting dizzy over here.

We're all about young stars dressing their age, but 13-year-old Millie Bobby Brown took the concept too far, sporting sneakers on the red carpet at the 2018 SAG Awards. From the feet up, the "Stranger Things" actress looked like a total star in a Calvin Klein by Appointment pink halter minidress and adorable pigtail buns wrapped in black bows. But white Converse for an award show isn't the right move at any age.

Saoirse Ronan was so close to perfection at the 2018 SAG Awards, but her Louis Vuitton look was just one toke over the fashion line. The pastel pink dress would have been a knockout if it wasn't for flappy silver sequin trim lining her silhouette. We can't seem to comprehend why it was placed in such a way to accentuate the armpits. Like, really?

Holly Hunter wore a fabulous Paule Ka gown for the 2018 SAG Awards. If it wasn't for the unappealing mustard hue, we would have called this a winning look. But sadly, the only thing we can focus on is that she reminds us of a hot dog condiment.

With Holly Hunter in close second, Greta Gerwig most definitely wins for the most unappealing color choice at the 2018 SAG Awards. The "Ladybird" director wore a yellowish green Bottega Veneta frock that, frankly, reminds us a lot of snot. Even the plethora of metal studs on the dress could hardly cover up the awful hue.

We appreciate Chris Sullivan's eccentric style, especially when it comes to the usually pretty standard menswear category. But he thought too far out of the box, or circle, for the 2018 SAG Awards with funky geometric glasses. You're not seeing double. Each of the "This Is Us" star's lenses are indeed a different shape.
