Ariel Winter responds to weight loss critics
The joys of coming of age on camera … Ariel Winter, who spent years being targeted by trolls for her curves, spent part of her 21st birthday on Monday, Jan. 28, clapping back at critics of her apparent recent weight loss. A pair of Instagram posts from Sunday and Monday show the admittedly smaller star celebrating a friend's birthday and then, her own. The post from Sunday — her first in a few weeks — drew a slew of comments about her appearance, including lots of compliments. There were plenty of critical posts, too, though, accusing her of having become "too skinny" and worse. "I'm sorry you felt the need to so dramatically change your appearance. I liked you just as you were. I hope you are happy in your new body though," wrote one commenter (via People). "Nothing wrong with being honest and telling her we liked her better before 'the change' she was so beautiful before she started chopping up her body and if me saying so helps one gurl out here to feel beautiful who's thinking of PS its worth it," said another, indicating Ariel had gone under the knife to achieve her current physique. Ariel opened up to Glamour about having breast reduction surgery in 2015, having found her F-size chest was causing back, neck and spine problems and complicating her ability to get dressed without looking "a way I'm not intending to look." That experience might have informed her gracious response to the nasty comments. "I appreciate you wanting to help girls love themselves the way they are, but you are also kind of cutting someone (me) down which isn't what I think you were trying to do?" she replied. "I also didn't get plastic surgery. That is also not supportive of women if you're just assuming about the way they look." She also clapped back when someone accused her in early January of having used "coke and meth" to lose weight — although that time, she went for a Katharine McPhee-style bit of sarcasm, writing: "My psychiatrist switched me from my previous anti depressant that didn't work and made me gain weight to coke/meth!! Definitely not a new one that worked and then regulated metabolism. Coke/meth was a controversial decision but she stands by it."

Kim Kardashian West returns to the California Capitol to talk criminal justice reform
Kim Kardashian West kicked off her week talking to California lawmakers in the state's capitol about criminal justice reform measures expected to reduce recidivism while expanding the rights and opportunities granted to those who have served their time. "Look who's here to here to endorse criminal justice reform and #FreeTheVote @KIm Kardashian," Assemblyman Kevin McCarty (D-Sacramento) captioned an awkward shot by the "Selfish" author. Kim shared a couple photos from her visit on Twitter as well, telling followers she "Had a great day at the California Capital today discussing criminal justice reform." According to Ben Hueso, Kim also discussed his proposal to create tax incentives for employers who hire "formerly incarcerated youth" (via the Daily Mail). Kim's been actively lobbying for criminal justice reform since last year, when she met with Donald Trump about the matter.

Matthew McConaughey clarifies rumors he was au naturel in 'Serenity' scenes
Outside of the rough reviews, two of the most talked about aspects of Steven Knight's oddball thriller "Serenity" are Anne Hathaway's super-blonde hair and Matthew McConaughey's, er … anatomy. Page Six recently checked in with the stars on both counts and Matthew, for one, said the buzz about what he wore or didn't wear is a bit off base. According to Matthew, he showed nothing more than fabric in the love and swimming scenes in which he appears to have nothing on. "Looks like I'm nude, but there's flesh covered material," he said, adding that "the movie business has tricks." Anne's physical appearance in the film, albeit somewhat less racy, was real — a fact she had to coach her son on getting comfortable with. "I couldn't have made this film without the help of my real husband. We adjusted our little son, Jonathan , bit by bit so he'd grow used to seeing me with light hair," she explained. "Being blond was sort of fun. It somehow made you feel kind of easier and freer." She's since gone back to brunette.

Paris Jackson gets a massive new Led Zeppelin tattoo
Nothing cleanses the heart and mind like a little permanent body art — at least, if you're Paris Jackson. After announcing on Jan. 16 that she was returning to a treatment center "to reboot, relign and prioritize her emotional health," Paris resurfaced on social media this week with a brand new tattoo — or four. Like many of her other 50-plus tats, the newest one pays homage to music that's meaningful to her. In this case: Led Zeppelin's untitled fourth album. "Was planning for a few months on just getting zoso but then i said f— it," she tweeted (via Page Six). In addition to Jimmy Page's "Zoso," the images represent John Paul Jones' circle, Robert Plant's feather and John Bonham's trinity.
Harvey Weinstein denied motion to dismiss assault, rape allegations from former Netflix producer
While most of Harvey Weinstein's 75-plus sexual assault allegations won't result in charges due to statutes of limitation laws, one of the women battling the former producer in court, former Netflix producer Alexandra Canosa, just scored a win in her New York City lawsuit against him. Page Six reports a judge has nixed Weinstein's motion to dismiss the sexual assault, battery and false imprisonment allegations she made in a May 2018 suit. On Monday, Jan. 29, the Manhattan federal judge handling the case announced Canosa's claims Weinstein "forced her into commercial sex acts and assaulted and harassed her numerous times during 'ostensible business meetings' between 2010 and 2014," were plausible. Her accusations include claims Weinstein raped her in 2014 while they were working on "Marco Polo" in Malaysia, sexually assaulted her in 2010 at the Toronto Film Festival and physically assaulted her at the Four Seasons Hotel in Hungary in 2015. Weinstein's lawyer said after the hearing his client "is prepared to defend against the remaining frivolous claims filed by Alexandra Canosa," adding, "The documents and communications in Mr. Weinstein's possession tell a very different tale than that alleged in Ms. Canosa's lawsuit."

At 19, Lily-Rose Depp is already working on her sixth film, "The King." And while she previously made a splash in "Yoga Hosers" and a handful of modeling campaigns, the daughter of Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis tells Vogue Australia things don't come to her easily just because of her parents' experience in Hollywood. "It is obviously a really easy assumption to make to think that I would just have roles landing on my doorstep because of my name, but that's an idea I've always kind of rejected … " she says in the mag's new cover story. "I've always been under the impression that I have to work twice as hard to prove to people that I'm not just here because it's easy for me. I feel like you're not what your name is. If you're not right for something, they're not just going to hire you because your name looks good on the post."

Halsey doesn't seem to regret keeping news of her breakup from G-Eazy to herself. In fact, the experience of having a relationship with another pop star taught her something important. "The biggest lesson I learned was to make art, not headlines. Because it can become quite easy, in the social media generation, to go from being a musician to becoming a personality," she explains in Glamour's February cover story. The singer also gets candid about attempting suicide when she was just 17 and her bipolar diagnosis in the magazine, admitting that there's a silver lining to the fact she went through that when she was still a teenager. "It was a lot of things happening at once, with a complete lack of direction," she says. "Given what I've been experiencing the past couple of years, if I hadn't already had my meltdown, who knows when it would have happened?"
Jordan Peele responds to Kanye West's 'Get Out' shout-out
While Kanye West was busy confusing folks last spring with his pro-Donald Trump sentiments and actions, he paused at one point to ask followers if a photo of his house put him in the "sunken place." It was a reference to the place where black people were being taken over by white hosts — and, as Urban Dictionary puts it, complicit in their own oppression" — in Jordan Peele's stirring horror film, "Get Out." In a new interview with Rolling Stone, the filmmaker finally sounds off on his response to Kanye's shout-out. "However frustrated I am with what he's doing, the artist in me is like, 'He saw my movie!'" Jordan admitted (via Vulture). "The thing about Kanye is, it feels to me that, whatever he's going through, he's trying to tell his truth. And there's something magnetic about people who are trying to tell the truth. I might be wrong, but my feeling is that even when he's saying something I disagree with, he's trying to tell his truth, and that's more than you can say about 90 percent of people."
Maroon 5 pledges huge donation to Big Brothers Big Sisters of America ahead of Super Bowl performance
Is Adam Levine following Travis Scott's lead when it comes to playing the Super Bowl half Time Show this weekend? It seemed that way this week, when the Maroon 5 frontman told People his band had teamed up with the NFL and Interscope Records to make a large donation to the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. "Playing the Super Bowl has been a dream of our band for a long time," Adam said, according to JustJared. "We thank the NFL for the opportunity and also to them, along with Interscope Records, for making this donation to Big Brothers Big Sisters, which will have a major impact for children across the country." Last week, Travis announced his Half Time Show performance deal with the NFL involved a stipulation promising the league would donate $500,000 to the "social justic accelerator," Dream Corps.
Romance rumors hit Michael B. Jordan, Kiki Layne
There might be a romance brewing between the stars of "Black Panther" and "If Beale Street Could Talk." It seems Michael B. Jordan and Kiki Layne spent most of a pre-awards club event at Sundance last week stuck to each other like glue. Page Six spies claim the pair arrived separately but "within 10 minutes of each other" to the bash, where their separate tables didn't even keep them apart. "Kiki quickly made her way over to Michael's table. And they seriously never left each other's side. Canoodling to the max," said one snitch. "She would have her hand on the back of his head rubbing it as he whispered in her ear and [he] kept kissing her cheek." The source also noted that while "it was clear to everyone in the room that they were together," their respective handlers were "protective about them not taking a photo together" before they left at the same time.
