Jamie Spears moves to keep portions of Britney's conservatorship case closed as her lawyer fights to have them unsealed
Britney Spears' father, Jamie Spears, filed court documents this week in an attempt to keep portions of his daughter's conservatorship case closed. In the new filing, excerpted by TMZ, Jamie questions the 38-year-old singer's ability "to understand the consequences" of waiving her right to privacy on portions of the case Britney's lawyer wants unsealed, namely. Britney's lawyer reportedly wants those portions unsealed in the interest of obtaining the "informed support of the public." But Jamie says the court needs to decide first whether Britney "has the capacity" to understand what will happen if she does so. Jamie claims the details of Britney's finances are "inextricably entwined" in those of her medical history. He says unsealing the former would likely lead to certain medical issues being made public. He believes that could ultimately be harmful to Britney and her sons. Finally, he says in the docs that his daughter's conservatorship is voluntary and she has never filed a request to end it, though she's technically allowed to do so. It's worth mentioning that Britney has not been pushing to do away with the conservatorship altogether. Rather, she wants a co-conservator added to its leadership so her dad doesn't have sole control. She's been under the conservatorship since 2008. It was recently extended until February 2021.

A mostly virtual version of the Toronto International Film Festival gets underway this week, and one of the most anticipated premieres is "Ammonite," a period piece and love story starring Kate Winslet and Saoirse Ronan. For Kate, the project was "one of the most joyful experiences" of her career, she says in a recent interview with Vanity Fair. It also intensified her determination to honor, as she puts it, "what women want to be saying for themselves in films and how we really want to be portrayed, regardless of sexual orientation." That's not something the Oscar winner has always been able to do, she explained. And while she has regrets about some of her past career choices, she says she's now focused on "setting a decent example to younger women." As for those career regrets? "It's like, what the … was I doing working with Woody Allen and Roman Polanski?" Kate asks — albeit in less PG language — referencing the directors of 2017's "Wonder Wheel" (Allen) and 2011's "Carnage" (Polanski). Allen has long denied allegations he molested the daughter he shared with Mia Farrow; he went on to marry another adopted daughter of Farrow's. Polanski remains a fugitive from the U.S., having been convicted of raping a 13-year-old girl in 1977. "It's unbelievable to me now how those men were held in such high regard, so widely in the film industry and for as long as they were. It's … disgraceful," Kate continues. "I have to take responsibility for the fact that I worked with them both," she adds. "I can't turn back the clock. I'm grappling with those regrets but what do we have if we aren't able to just be … truthful about all of it?" TIFF kicked off Thursday and runs through Sept. 19.

This fall, Selena Gomez is set to start shooting what will be her first acting role in a TV series since "The Wizards of Waverly Place." Hulu's mystery/comedy, "Only Murders in the Building," stars Selena opposite Steve Martin and Martin Short. And as she recently told Marc Malkin on Variety's "Big Ticket" podcast, part of the fun for the 28-year-old singer is getting to know comedy legends whose interests don't exactly dovetail with the pop music world she inhabits. The same thing happened when she worked with Bill Murray on Jim Jarmusch's zombie flick, "Dead Don't Die." Asked if she called Bill for "advice on how to deal with" his former 'SNL' costar, Steve Martin, Selena shared this revelation: "You can't call Bill Murray. He doesn't have a phone." At that point, she lost track of question about Steve. "He is the best old school like … no," she said, sounding dead serious about the fact that Bill apparently can't be reached. "I think I'd have to send him a fax and I don't even know if I even have that," she offered. "I like to say that there has been this theme in acting for me, from working with Billy Crudup to Paul Rudd, Bill Murray and now Steve and Marty," she explained. "I end up having really fun relationships with people who have no idea who I am. Like, Bill Murray would just call me 'Gomez.' He'd be like, "Gomez, Gomez …," she recalled of their time working together. Bill's actually brought up the "Gomez" moniker before, telling Vanity Fair that he was "trying to keep her at ease" when he famously whispered something in her ear on the red carpet at their Cannes Film Festival premiere last year. "I really like her. I mean, you still can't tell me who … 'Selena Gomez' is — but 'Gomez,' I really like." He added that he finds Selena to be "unusually bright," "kind" and "natural." Pete Davidson 'likely' to return to 'SNL' despite comments suggesting otherwise
Pete Davidson's on-off relationship with "Saturday Night Live" appears to be back on. According to Page Six, the show's cast is now in the process of signing off on their deals for the new season and multiple sources have intimated Pete will be on board when "SNL" returns to the studio at 30 Rock on Oct. 3 to perform its first live edition since the start of the pandemic. Previous comments Pete made this year to Charlamagne Tha God during an interview suggested he might be ready to move on from "SNL," which he joined in 2014. "I'm literally painted out to be this big dumb idiot" by the other cast members, he said at the time. "I personally think I should be done with that show because they make fun of me on it." Michelle Rodriguez successfully lobbied for a woman to join the 'Fast & Furious' writers team
Two years ago, Michelle Rodriguez threatened to ditch her long-running post as Letty Ortiz in the "Fast & Furious" movies unless producers agreed to "show some love to the women of the franchise." Now — after eight films in which female characters have tended to be peripheral or get killed off, it sounds like Michelle's request was finally met. In a chat with Jess Cagle on his SiriusXM Radio show this week, the actress confirmed a Black woman writer had joined the team for "Fast & Furious 9," due out next year. She didn't share the writer's name. "Super grateful that they were open to it. I wanted a female writer. I wanted all the females in 'Fast & Furious' to get some love," she said, according to Deadline. "The thing is, is that all the guys are focused on the guys, period. It's just an egoist natural thing," she mused, adding that "people just care about themselves usually, or people who look like them or act like them," or have the same body parts. "And so I just know that if I bring up a female writer and she might care a little more about the female story," she continued. Part of her issue with the writing of the previous films, she said, is that Letty's been portrayed as overly, "alpha and angry and ready to kick" butt, which Michelle thinks "just doesn't work" for who she's supposed to be. "It's not natural. And I think that you need a female voice to understand that," she said. Later in the interview, the star also casually confirmed what was supposed to be a major secret about the next installment — the crew travels into outer space. Ludacris was the first to let that detail slip, which he did on a previous edition of the same Sirius show. When confronted about Luda's comments, which hinted but didn't confirm the space situation, Michelle laughed. "How did you guys find that out?" she asked, giggling. "See what happens? People start talking behind the scenes, man. 'When a movie doesn't come out and forget about it, things get out. Nobody was supposed to know that!"
Is the Kardashian-Jenner family shopping for a big streaming deal?
What's next for the Kardashian-Jenner family, now that they've committed to ending their 14-year tenure on E!? Possibly, more camera time — through a new platform's lens. A new report from Page Six claims the reality TV staples could ink a "big streaming deal within a year." Citing a source close to the Kardashians and Jenners, the outlet says the family is also considering launching a media company of their own. While "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" executive producer Ryan Seacrest said this week the fam is simply ready for "more privacy" in their day-to-day lives, Page Six has pointed to the "ever-increasing salary demands" of the show's key cast members, saying E! was no longer able to meet their demands. The tab's new info suggests Kris Jenner and her daughters think a streaming deal with Netflix, Apple or Amazon could bring in more cash. "There's more money in streaming. And it's global," said one insider. Another said the family is interested in exploring options around a show that would focus on their business ventures rather than their personal lives, which would make sense, given Kourtney Kardashian's decision to step back from the camera for the sake of her kids and Kim Kardashian West's rumored marital concerns. Whatever they choose to do, a source said their collective first priority is to take "some time off."
Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt quit family therapy amid new 'tensions' in custody battle: Report
For a moment there, it looked like Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were close to working out a custody agreement and finally wrapping up their divorce, four years after Angelina's filing. Now, an insider tells Us Weekly "tensions have escalated" between the two and "family therapy [is] no longer taking place." According to the Us source, "Brad wants 50/50 joint physical and legal custody" of their five younger children, Pax, 16, Zahara, 15, Shiloh, 14, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 12. Their eldest, Maddox, is 19 and no longer figures into the custody situation. Angelina, meanwhile, is said to have made a sticking point of where the kids will live primarily. That's presumably because of her humanitarian work as Special Envoy for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, which frequently takes her overseas. "[She] will only agree to talk about an agreement if the home base for the children isn't Los Angeles," says the source. "The younger kids are in school in Los Angeles, which Angelina has always been opposed to. They are very smart and are eager to attend school in person [amid the COVID-19 pandemic]." Angelina's bid to have the judge handling the former couple's case removed probably hasn't improved matters in the escalating tensions department. The judge recently denied Angelina's claims he could be biased in favor of Brad. The former couple is expected to face off in a custody trial beginning next month.
Adam Brody confirms he and Leighton Meester have welcomed their second child
"Gossip Girl" alum Leighton Meester and former star of "The O.C." Adam Brody quietly welcomed their second child earlier this year. The couple, who said "I do" back in 2014, confirmed they were expecting again in April. Adam, 40, acknowledged he and Leighton had a new addition to their growing family on the Twitch show, "The Fun Time Boys Game Night Spectacular," according to reports. "I have a boy and he's a dream, he's a dream boy," gushed the actor, who also shares 5-year-old daughter, Arlo, with his wife. Leighton, 34, has said in the past she intentionally stays quiet on matters regarding her personal life when she can. "I am very proud of that area of my life. But I'm also really proud of the show, and of the work I do," she explained to Refinery 29 in 2017. "I think the perception is: You're an ingenue, or you're an icon, or you're a mom. There's no in between."
